Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great new style of writing a book. Review: Finished this one in about 2 days. Great dialog and humor projected solely through email messages between work and family acquaintances. The love story worked well. HOWEVER there seemed to be a major problem with the plot. Why would Max choose John who he knew was a Criminal Reporter to fill in and impersonate him? Wouldn't John be the last person on earth Max should have chosen to help him out? Book never mentions why the police didn't bother to question or talk to John (the fake Max)while he was living in the Grandma's apartment.
There were times towards the end of the book when Mel, the lead character majorly got on my nerves. I started to root for her to get fired. Forty-nine tardies...please, what boss would put up with that? Also the emails between Mel and her parents were really boring. I ended up skipping those all together towards the end. Still I liked the book and would recommend reading it. Loved the humor and still found myself absorbed in the book.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Entertaining, but unnecessarily long Review: This book has its share of cute and humorous moments, but in my opinion it was at least 75 pages too long. Since the plot isn't exactly hard to figure out and the writing isn't exactly Pulitzer-worthy, I found myself skimming through the last 1/3 of the book. At that point I was over the humor and banter between the characters and I just wanted it to end already.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great book for ALL redheads Review: First off not only did I love this book because the main chracter was a redhead, but because ity was one of the best love stories ever put together. The wuthor who has written the Princess Diaries series did one heck of a job on this one. The story written all in e-mails was one idea I was not so hot with when I first started. I thought confusion would occur but, it did not. I loved the idea and now feel that every book should be written that way. This book led me to like love stories more then I originally had, after this I found myself reading The Notebook(which is a great story go read it!). This book would be on my top 10 list everytime I write a new one.I love the humor the mystery of the murder that occured. I think it was really funny with the mix up of the two guys which being which. Since I plan to be a journalist this was also a great book because the main chracter was one too. Everyone who likes love stories and humor go out and get this book or borrow it cause you will NOT regret it ever!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Laugh out loud funny - and romance with a capital "R"! Review: I started reading this one while in the bathtub and I DID NOT get out until I'd gotten to the final page, even though I had to keep adding hot water to the tub when it grew tepid and my toes became so wrinkled that I could hardly bear to look at them when I finally stood up again.
This is a romance novel but it is also far more, suspenseful and funny as well. Basic plot - Young woman goes to check on her elderly neighbor, only to find her unconscious and bloody, face down on her floor. Young woman, having a heart of gold, steps in to take care of her neighbor's pets. Meanwhile, the neighbor's nephew, handsome but coldhearted, is off on a romantic fling and enlists the help of a buddy to take his place. This, of course, includes masquerading as the nephew.
Misunderstandings ensue, of course, along with romance....all under false pretenses (young woman knows nothing of the truth). The whole tale is told, charmingly, through a series of emails. I absolutely could NOT put down this book until the final delicious page.
Having said that, some of it is a bit predictable and a few stereotypes abound (brainless models, for instance). But, all in all, this is a fun read and far superior to most in the field. I confess I loved every single page of the book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Boy Next Door Review: My mom got this book for me after she saw people talking about it on a show. I really liked reading this book. It was very different from other books I've read because the entire story is told through emails. I thought that the author was very clever to write a story like this. This book has some romance in it, and I think that you should be 10 and older to read it. Another reason I liked this book was because I couldn't put it down! I also think that this is a very good young adult book. I think that whoever reads this book will really like it, and I recommend it to anyone.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Loved it! Review: I grabbed this book of the shelf at the library on a whim after the title caught my eye. I opened to the middle to find some emails and decided to give it a try. While I thought the emails were just additions to "regular" text, I soon discovered that the entire story is told by reading emails between friends, family, co-workers, etc. It took a few pages for me to get used to this style of writing, but I love it and now can't imagine the story being told in any other way!
Everyone else has written about the plot, so I'm going to avoid that and just say that this book was a great treat. I laughed out loud several times! The plot is interesting, the characters will surely remind you of someone you know, the twist is fun though predictable...you will not be disappointed! It's a fun read!

From: Nadine Wilcock nadine.wilcock@thenyjournal.com
Girl, where are you? I'm really starting to get worried. Why haven't you called me, at the very least? I hope you didn't get hit by a bus or something. But I suppose if you did, they'd call us. Assuming you had your press pass with you, that is.
All right, I'm not really worried that you're dead. I'm really worried you're going to get fired, and I'm going to have to eat lunch with Dolly again. I was forced to order in with her since you're MIA, and it nearly killed me. The woman had a salad with no dressing. Do you get where I'm coming from here? NO DRESSING.
And then she felt compelled to comment on every single little thing I put in my mouth. "Do you know how many grams of fat are in that fry?" "A good substitute for mayonnaise, you know, Nadine, is low-fat yogurt."
I'd like to tell her what she can do with her low-fat yogurt.
By the way, I think you should know that Aaron's going around saying you're doing this because of whatever went down between the two of you last night.
If that doesn't get you in here, and pronto, I don't know what will.
Nad :-)
The Boy Next Door is a book about a girl named Melissa, a.k.a Mel who gets stuck in an awful situation. Her next-door neighbor, Mrs. Friedlander, was struck from behind by an anonymus visitor. While Mrs. Friedlander is in a coma, Mel has to take care of her Great Dane and her two pesky cats.
Meggin Cabot (a.k.a. Meg Cabot) has written lots of books for teenage girls. She has written the Princess Diaries series, All-American Girl, Victoria, and the Rogue, Nicola and the Viscount, Teen Idol and of course, The Boy Next Door. She has also written a series called Haunted which she wrote under a pseudonym, Jenny Carroll. Cabot also writes books for adults. She lives, currently, in New York with her husband and one-eyed cat named Henrietta.
The Boy Next Door is ultimetly my favorite book of all time. Girls (13 or over) or women who like love stories would love The Boy Next Door. This book will make you laugh and even make you cry, but overall it's a book that should be read over and over again.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: You won't be able to put this book down! Review: I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It was belly-laugh funny. Mel is such a great leading lady. She is sweet and funny. Her relationship with her best friend, Nadine, will keep you smiling and laughing.
All of the characters in this book bring something to the table, and the e-mail format helps the book to be a quick read.
I have read many chic-lit novels, but I have to admit this is one of the best!
