It's short and to the point. And with family and friends it can be cutting and full of whit. If you are as addicted to email as I am then you will love this book. Ms. Cabot's use of this medium as a vehicle for a romance is as brilliant as it is funny. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this book my husband (who never reads)asked for the book so he could read it to find out what was so funny. The woman columnist lead character has a razor sharp sarcastically funny way of dealing with her life, work and romance. We get to know the clever varied collection of co-workers and friends she is surrounded by through their emails to each other and her. An E-ROMANCE. I LOVED IT!

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: TOTALLY FANTASTICLY GRAT! Review: I'm a 15 year old girl who first discovered Meg Cabot in The Princess Diaries(I read all 3 in a little under two days). I was eager to find more novels that she wrote, and soon read All American Girl, and then discovered The Boy Next Door. I sat down with this book and read it in 12 hours. It was AMAZING. Funny, clever, witty and dazling are only some of the words that could be used to describe this book. Its another home run for an author whose talent is appreciated by many. Read it, you wont regret it!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Move over Pamela... Review: ...and Shamela because Mel is taking us straight into the 21st Century. The "letter" based novels of the 18th Century have been completely updated with Meggin Cabot's debut into Adult Comtemporary Fiction. By telling the story completely through e-mail, the reader truly gets inside the characters' heads. I laughed aloud several times, devouring page after page of this brilliant book that I couldn't put down. The characters are very real, and their voices ring true. The last time I had so much fun reading someone else's "mail" were with Nick Bantock's books. "The Boy Next Door" is the must read book I will be telling all my friends about this Christmas. Thank you, Meggin Cabot, for making reading such a joy.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Cute... Review: but, maybe a bit too cute. I was surprised by how MC could write an entire book using only E-mail. I know I shouldn't have been surprised at all as I know what a good writer Patricia Cabot (aka Meggin Cabot) is and love most of her books. She has the sharp wit, humor, and intelligence that puts her at the top of my very short automatic buy list. The only real problem I have with the book is that it was too tame. By using E-mails as the format for this book, MC does the reader a disservice. I could not really bond enough with the characters as I normally would, because the E-mail format limits how well you really get to know the characters, plot, and the entire story in general. E-mails cannot be as descriptive (even though MC did a good a job as anyone could) as regular novel formats. Overall, this book is a light, fast, humorous read. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easy read.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Very Clever and Different Review: "The Boy Next Door" by Meggin Cabot is truly clever and different from anything else I have read. It's all done by email and I think gives it something catchy. I was a little confused at the beginning (keeping who straight) but I quickly got into a rhythm and it was a very enjoyable story. With a mix of romance, murder-mystery, chick lit and diary'esque feel to it, I think that Cabot has stumbled into a new genre and I really liked it. It's not a difficult book - it's not War and Peace, but it's fun!! Very sweet and charming.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great funny romance Review: This book probably isn't going to win any awards or change any lives, but that doesn't stop it from being a very warm, funny romance. Mel (short for Melissa) finds her next door neighbor hurt after a robbery. After taking care of her neighbor's pets for a while, she gets sick of it and contacts the neighbor's nephew. The nephew, deciding he's too busy to help, sends a friend, John Trent, instead. The only thing is - the nephew tell John to pretend he's really the nephew. Will Mel and John fall in love? Will John admit who he truly is? Read the emails of their friends, family, and coworkers to find out.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Slightly disappointed. Review: As a fan of Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries, I was ecstatic when I found this book. From the same author, though under the name Meggin rather than Meg, this book is touted as a story for the older girl. The Princess Diaries was cute, so I figured I would give this one a try. While the book is cute, it is little more than that. The plot is interesting as well, but the format of the book was limiting as was, I believe, Ms.Cabot's status as a YA author. The writing is somewhat unbelievable almost as if she were worried about offending younger viewers. At times, I felt I was reading a book that was written by an adolescent as to what they might think being a young woman would be like. All in all it is a bit trite. The format also has issues, because it is written as a series of Emails, and it is often difficult to follow which character wrote the Email and when it was sent. It was often a fractured story as well, seeing as it is not often that every detail in someone's life is sent over Email. The idea for the story was well-intended, but it seems that it could have been executed in a better fashion. I hope to find other adult novels by Ms. Cabot that are more succesful. You still may enjoy this one, though, simply because the plot is adorable. 14 Nov 2002
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Absolutely hilarious Review: I probably shouldn't write a review, until I actually FINISH the book, but I can't help it. I bought "The Boy Next Door" this morning and I can't put it down or stop laughing. If you enjoy romantic comedies and quirky characters, who are, without a doubt, quite a crew, then you will love this read. Cabot has created a realistic setting in her email world that I can relate to, especially since my own friends and I spend more time using email for gossip rather than work. This is a light, fun read that everyone will love.
