Summary: This book was totally wonderful!
Review: My mum sugested that I read ths book, as I am a keen horse lover. I loved the way the bookwent (basically) straight into the collision with the truck and the riders. I was really quite frigtening, but wonderfully descriptive. The tale carries on to be very moving, and evey paragraph had me gripped. It's a long book, cetainly not for younger readers, due to descriptive sex scenes, but the main hint of the story is always there. You don't have to be imaginative to read this book or a lover of horses, just a strong reader, with understanding.

Summary: ...one of the single worst books that I've ever read.
Review: I'm an avid reader and writer, so I know how difficult it is to create a novel. Even more so, I hate to give and receive criticism, but I thought that the Horse Whisperer was just awful. To summarize, the events were predictable and the characters were unoriginal and overdone.

After reading a few pages, I found myself interested in the novel. A young girl and her horse get into a violent accident...I found the writing to be moving. Then we are introduced to Annie, the young girl's tough but sensitive 90's mother, and the Horse Whisperer, and the only thing left whispering was me as I began to snore. The romance between the latter characters was, for Annie, the "I shouldn't, I'm married" and "I should, you magically speak to horses," to the Horse Whisperer's, "Okay, whatever you want, Annie." Yuck, yuck. I may have actually enjoyed the book if it had been more about or completely devoted to the recovery of the young girl and her horse.

One positive aspect of the book is the artwork on the cover, which attracted me to it in the first place. Other than that, I felt like I had wasted my money.

Summary: couldn't put it down!!
Review: I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was a captivating story of horse and rider. The book was better than the movie because they left out a lot of stuff in the movie. I am glad that they left out the bed scenes, those weren't necessary. Although things like that help to make the book seem more life-like; I mean let's face it, things like that do happen a lot. Evans did a great job of holding my attention; there was always something happening. Someone I know said that he spent too much time on describing the scenerey. I think this is just as important as the actual event because if you don't know where their happening you get confused and it makes it seem like the author is jumping around. If one thing should be changed , it's the ending, it was very unexpected and unnecessary.

Summary: A sweeping tale of passion and gradeur.
Review: It did not take me long to complete Nicholas Evans' lush novel, "The Horse Whisperer". All of the accolades that it had received were true. It was compelling how the novel grabbed hold of you and kept you reading until you literally found yourself at the end of its absorbing tale. Evans created characters that were rich with life and the setting held a beautifully vivid gradeur. To witness the progress of the three tainted souls was a pleasure and an unforgettable experience. I found myself hoping for a quick and easy recovery for the physically and emotionally traumatized characters. Yet, I discovered myself accepting and enjoying the detailed unfolding and later regrowth of each of the characters. Hence, "The Horse Whisperer" was indeed a delightful novel to have read over the beginning of my Christmas holidays. I am now eagerly anticipating to read the next book by Nicholas Evans.

Summary: Whispering to the hearts of young and old.
Review: This is a book of rare beauty and power, captivating, unlike any other. The movie does not compare to this one of a kind shining star. It's part love story, part horse story, bringing in an odd, but lovable combination about a child wounded in mind and spirit, a horse driven mad by pain, and a man that fights to save them both. There is no book that can compare. You will be glad I didn't tell the plot. Wonderful for anyone over 11 years of age, pass it on to your children and friends when you are finished. Trying to put this book in a summary is like being asked to describe the taste of water. You will enjoy this book. -Racu Coby

Summary: This book took my heart from page one and has not let go!
Review: When I first picked up this book, I was hesitant because I am not too fond of horses. I ended up loving it and I was sad when I read the last page because I did not want it to end. This book is a compelling story that involves tragedy, perseverance, and romance. A girl and her horse have to overcome a freak accident that wounds them both in body and spirit. The mother tries to help the girl's horse by driving cross country to Montana to see a horse whisperer. He ends up not only helping a mad horse, but helps the girl gain confidence. A romance unravels that is both captivating and intense. Nicholas Evans took an original love story and turned it into one of the best books I have ever read. Throughout the entire book, Evans uses great description. "Their breathing was as one, their mouths, their blood as if pulsed through interlacing veins by the same heart." He digs deep inside to the perceptions, feelings and thoughts of each character. Evans describes situations in the book and then tells how each character personally viewed the situation. "Maybe she sensed in his offer an intimacy he hadn't meant, or rather one he yearned for but hadn't meant to convey." Due to this, I felt attached to each of the characters throughout the book. In addition, Evans uses great foreshadowing of events in his book. He foreshadows the accident, the love affair and the not-so -happy ending, wonderfully. I never wanted to put the book down. As i read this book I sat in awe because I could not believe how well he depicted the complicated emotions and interactions between the characters. Evans also incorporates a sense of parallelism, where everything that would happen in one situation would have a deeper meaning in another situation. For example, when the horse whisperer is explaining something to the mother about the horse, his words also pertain to their love for one another. "About seeing clearly the way life is and accepting it and being true to it, whatever the pain, because the pain of not being true to it is far, far greater." This book took my heart from page one and has not let go. This book grasps you with a great plot and wonderful writing. The description, foreshadowing, and parallelism are all to be commended. The story takes you on a roller-coaster of emotions and I encourage you to take a ride.
