Rating: Summary: Manhunting Review: I have read and enjoyed many of Jennifer Crusie's books so I decided to go back and read some of hr earlier works and I must say that I was disappointed with 'MANHUNTING'. This is the story of Kate who has been single for as long as her best friend can rmember so she manages to convince Kate that a vacation to a Kentucky resort (where many single and eligible men just so happen to frequent) is just what the doctor ordered. While a tad bit skeptical about the trip Kate decides that a vacation couldn't hurt and takes off for Kentucky. While there she meets a host of men all of whom she manages to maul, offend or out right attack at some point during her stay. The only man with whom she has not had a bad experience with at the resort is Jake the grouns keeper (and co-owner) of the hotel. Jake is handsome, scruffy and all wrong for Kate. Despite the fact that they both belive that there could never be anyting romantic between the two of them they seem to turn to each other for comfort and solace in the midst of a busy, hormone ridden resort. But could Kate really give up everything she has worked so hard for to live the simple life, or could Jake give up the life of simplicity that he has come to love to go back to the hustle and bustle of city life?
I found 'MANhUNITNG' to be a bit generic and had none of the humor or quirky characters that I have come to know and love from Crusie. While the book was mildly entertaining I would sooner recommend 'FAKING IT' or 'BET ME' also by Crusie.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed! Review: I heard Jennifer C. mention this book with the caution to us that it was one of her early ones. That doesn't mean it's not a very enjoyable read! Of course (it's Crusie!) it's very funny and yes, a tad predictable, but the characters are great, engaging, warm, and people whom I'd love to know. The sexual tension is fabulous, and many of the members of my writing group just have to say "mashed potatoes" to each other to start a wave of laughter. Some books you look back on and say, "I wasted x hours reading that!" Hours with this book will be ones you'll remember fondly. Buy it!
Rating: Summary: A book to keep and re-read over and over again! Review: I read this book a few years ago when it was first published. It now has an honored place on the "touch-these-books-and-die" shelf. Jennifer Crusie has a style that is funny and fast-paced. At first you may not like the characters, but soon they grow on you. Before you know it, you are cursing that the book is done and wanting a sequel (paging Jesse and Jake's brother...)! I recommend this book to any woman who wants a great, fun read with a few hours on her hands. Once you pick it up, you will NOT put it down until it is done.
Rating: Summary: Not so bad, although she wrote better ones Review: I started J. Crusie with "Welcome to Temptation" and I LOVE it. I therefore decided to try some other ones. Manhunting was the 1st of those. It is good (especially the "declaration scene") but it is a little bit lacking. Lacking of what? Probably of story and probably because it was one of her first one (I think). But the good stuff in Crusie's books is emerging here : friendship between the future lovers, funny dialogs and sexy love affair. Let's say that it's worth reading but it's better to start with this one!
Rating: Summary: My favorite Crusie (so far) Review: I was a latecomer to Ms. Crusie's world, but I've read her most recent and the occassional older works. This is, by far, my favorite, and I love 'em all. Like someone else said, Jessie and Jake's brother, please step up...
Rating: Summary: I threw this one in the trash... Review: I was introduced to Jennifer Crusie in Welcome to Temptation and loved it. I had to have more of her writing. Went on to Fast Women and loved that one also. This one, Manhunting, I thought was so awful I had to force myself to finish it. I found it incredibly weak. I'm grateful I first started with the first two mentioned books.

Rating: Summary: One of the best Cruesie books Review: I was prepared to not be thrilled with Manhunting. Sorry. I loved Temptation, but not Loose. I, however, really did love this book, and highly recommend it for those like contemporaries full of the current angst and solutions. The basic premise is an unhappy, but commercially successful woman, Kate, who gave up satisfying employment with the Small Business Administration to work for her multi-married Dad in a corporate management firm. As required, her love life is bad: multiple broken engagements. Her best friend convinces her to vacation at a golf resort in the hills of Kentucky. Kate goes taking with her a list of requirements and a plan to meet Mr. Right, who is the opposite of the hero, Jake. Divorced after a long six months, Jake is in what I would consider a long-term pre-midlife-crisis: lazy with no ambition. Jake's idea of a good time is sitting in a boat pole fishing in the morning and shooting pool in the evening. But he owns half the resort so he has a home and food. There are a few bad starts with the potential Mr. Rights needing medical treatment or a rescue, so Kate hides out with Jake fishing. The mutual attraction, interest and longing begin and heats up quickly without being silly. The movement to bed is charming and builds well in a sexy and funny method. The supporting characters are strong enough to help plot progression without distracting or complicating the story. The humor is well timed and enhances the story. Best for me though are the fights. Arguments make sense; feelings get hurt in appropriate situation, and pride makes Kate and Jake behave badly-but not illogically. I hate when writers can't find enough emotion and whose characters behave illogically or with jumpy emotions. These are good fight scenes. Manhunting is well written, cleaver, funny and touching. I am so happy I got to read this book.
Rating: Summary: love this book Review: I'm a huge jennifer crusie fan, loved this book- BUY IT!
Rating: Summary: One of her best Review: I'm surprised by some of the reviews I've read where they liked (or loved) the author in general but didn't care as much for this story. Along with Crazy for You, Bet Me and Welcome to Temptation this is one of my favorites of Ms. Crusie's novels. Very witty dialog had me laughing out loud. Wasn't much of a plot, but the characters are so vivid and the book's value rests on the interactions between them. If you want a funny, light-hearted story to help you de-stress I highly recommend this one.
