Rating: Summary: Jennifer Crusie does it best!!! Review: "Manhunting" was just a bit of a book. I must say...I enjoyed every single last page of it. Kate is so uptight and Jake was so laid back it was almost too funny to imagine. I knew Kate was pretty much done once she ended up in the boat fishing with Jake. I really liked Jessie and Nancy, also. Kate's final decision in the end was a good one....although...why do these books always have the same happy ending?????
Rating: Summary: Cute 'n' Sweet Review: A light, fun story written with a happy-go-lucky style that is purely Jennifer Crusie. This is your basic plot of girl gets guy, girl loses guy, girl gets guy back, yet is kept fresh with a few twists and turns. Kudos, Miss Crusie!
Rating: Summary: How could I have not read Crusie before??? She is fantastic Review: A wonderful, hilarious read!! This book made me laugh, couldn't wait to see who Kate's next "victim" would be. And when Kate and Jake discovered they were meant to be together, it was wonderful. I had some sad things in my life recently and this book made me laugh, my husband even noticed. He hadn't heard me laugh in a while. I have to get more Crusie books!
Rating: Summary: becoming addicted to an author Review: After reading romance for 30 years, I was pretty set in the type of book and author I read. Manhunt was my first experience not only with Crusie but also with a romantic comedy. I laughed outloud so many times that my children decided that I needed therapy. Now I hunt in amazon all of Ms. Crusie's earliest titles. This book has also been passed around so much that it is a joke in the family. The story of Jake and Kate is funny, sexy and tender. Kate is driven in her pursuit to find her perfect mate and liberates herself as well as maiming her candidates. This is a must buy
Rating: Summary: disappointed, but hopeful Review: After reading several others books by Jennifer Crusie, I was very disappointed with Manhunting. It was very juvenile, and predictable. I am still hopefully looking forward to her next novel being better.
Rating: Summary: Book hunting? This one's a keeper! Review: As my first taste of a Jennifer Crusie book, I think I ordered well. While not a book for those who enjoy stories that require heavy brain use, readers of all types can gain pleasure from this book. For the serious in you, Manhunting touches on commitment and career issues. For the practical person, the orderly list-making and the perfecting art of finding a suitable mate will appeal. But most importantly, for the romantic reader, Manhunting will have you climbing up the wall with anticipation -- like any good romance book should.Kate Svenson has what she thinks any woman would want: beauty, money, a successful career, and an apartment full of French Provincial furniture. Unfortunately, she also has too much time and lonliness on her hands. Tired of the single life, Kate and her best friend, Jessie, come up with the plan to beat all plans. Thus begins Kate's search for the perfect man. Armed with her list of qualifications (tall, distinguised and successful), Kate heads to Toby's Corner, Kentucky, home of The Cabins Resort and vertical golf -- a magnetic haven for the suave businessmen of Kate's desire. Well, it started out a good plan... Within the first few days of her arrival, Kate has managed to attract men that meet her requirements but with disastrous results. The only thing decent out of the whole trip? The two new friendships she's made: Penny, gorgeous and engaged, who feels she needs to do a little harmless dating before she's tied down for good, and Jake, the rugged resort handyman and exact opposite of the man of her dreams. Hopeless and exhausted, Kate is on the verge of giving up. But wait...is there a light at the end of this tunnel after all? Manhunting is a delicious romp of a novel, full of sexual tension and too much pride. And while readers can guess the ending before cracking the spine on this book, it does not deter whatsoever from the sheer pleasure of reading. Contains writing that veers toward inexperienced during the first few chapters, but soon Jennifer Crusie hits her groove and takes off like a woman on a mission. Excellent debut from an author worth reading again.
Rating: Summary: The perfect stocking stuffer Review: Every woman on my Christmas list is getting a copy of Manhunting this year. And a few men, too. Jenny Crusie's heroine encounters all the pitfalls of dealing with men, and emerges victorious, a positive message we can all use! And, without giving away the story, let me just say that if you play golf -- or know any woman who does, or you have played any game with an overly competitive male -- you've just got to read this book for the vicarious thrill. I'm making it sound like Manunting is pure man-bashing fun, but it's both more and less than that. The hero and a secondary male character are quite endearing enough to redeem the jerky men in the book.
Rating: Summary: The plan seemed simple enough Review: Find a successful (rich) and distinguished bachelor and nab him for a husband. For thirty-five year old Kate Svenson, the clock was ticking and she was tired of being alone. After three unsuccessful engagements, she was willing to risk anything in order to find that perfect partner. She required a man with the same ambitious nature and financial drive she had. She wanted a man she could develop an empire with. And she was going to find him at The Cabins in Toby's Corner, Kentucky. What she found was a slew of men who should have appealed to her but didn't. And what was worse, they were dropping like flies around her one by one through her own volition or by some invisible hand of fate. The one man who is avoiding her like the plague is Jake Templeton, the handyman who keeps everything nice and neat around The Cabins. These are adjectives that he might use to describe his life until Kate Svenson arrives at The Cabins and fascinates him with her inability to hold on to a man for any length of time and also entrances him with her unexpected vulnerability. Jennifer Crusie has written a brilliant and sometimes poignant romance that sometimes crosses the line into women's fiction. But the point is, it is an entertaining and witty story about two people who discover an uncanny friendship and an even more unexpected love. The author's use of smart dialogue between characters really helps to hold this story together. Though the actions that take place are uncommonly slapstick, Crusie manages to hold on to the seriousness of the relationship without allowing the characters to lose their integrity or sense of development.
Rating: Summary: The Bermuda Triangle *snerk* Review: I *love* Jennifer Crusie's books! This one was a great story that actually made me laugh out loud several times. Her characters are so fun, and you can't help but love them. Once again the story line was a good one and the ending left the reader feeling complete.
I don't think Ms Crusie will be able to write fast enough to keep me happy, I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: This is the first Jen Cruise book I read Review: I almost didn't read it because the main male character had a mustache and I hat mustaches - so I just pretended he didn't and that made all the difference. Loved the book - It was so well written - maybe because she has a PHD - hmmm maybe I should look into getting one <smile>. The only thing I wish she had done was set Jessie up with Will - I think that would have perfected the book - the whole time I thought she was going to and was disapointed in the end that she didn't but at least Katee got her man.
