Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: If I could go halves, I'd give this 2.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed Jane Green's previous books ie. Bookends & Jemima J, however, I was really disappointed with Mr. Maybe. The book started out good with the main character being in a dead relationship with her boyfriend Saul & meeting the sexy Nick at a wedding reception, however, it seemed to go downhill after that. The book was so utterly depressing; I'm surprised that I was able to continue. The main character loses her posh job, realizes that she's dating a complete loser, her best friend berates her constantly & she battles with an eating disorder. Oh, and let's not forget her turbulent relationship with her mother & brother. This book was mentally exhausting. Now, I'm not one who is a big fan of the Hollywood "happily ever after" movies, but, hey, this was a little too much. Also, interesting how it all seemed to turn around at the end. She got the guy & got her friend back. Hmm..I'm currently reading Babyville. Let's hope that this one isn't as much of a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Adorable tale of the single life! Review: Mr. Maybe was the first book of Jane Green's that I read, and I am now hooked! I loved the tale of Libby's journey trying to find "The One" by having to go through the "Mr. Maybe's." Libby is a 27 year-old single woman working in PR, and she is surrounded by wonderful and hilarious friends and co-workers. Will Libby choose the man of her fantasies...rich, well-known and treats her like a goddess eventhough he has a mustache and is a [bad]-kisser? Or will she choose other man...the gorgeous, on the dole with a nasty bedsit who is a magnificently fun and sexual god? Mr. Maybe is a fun book that will keep you turning the pages to see how Libby's dilemma ends.
Rating: Summary: No Maybe's About It - My Absolute Favorite Jane Green Book Review: I'm absolutely in love with Jane Green's work. I crave it and bounce on it the minute it comes up for pre-sale at Amazon.co.uk. The only problem is - she's doesn't write enough books to satisfy my longings. Oh well -- guess she's only human. I'll give her a break. "Mr. Maybe" is without a doubt my favorite book. I adore it. I loved everything about it. I love the characters, the story, the settings, everything. Libby is the ultimate British Gal and I was entranced in her life and fascinated with her fashion, interests and relationship with her best friend. When lovely and sexy Nick shows up in Libby's posh life - he really throws her for a loop. This is a girl that loves Prada and fancy restaurant. Nick loves pubs and is on state's assistance. They couldn't be more different --- but for some reason, it works. However, when the relationship falls part, that's when the book really starts. Libby suffers an identity crisis flounders in a dead-end relationship and continues to crave the romance she experienced with Nick. I loved everything about this book and recommend it to all my friends. The audio version if also VERY enjoyable. Great on the subway or a car trip. Hope everyone tries it -- I think you'll love it. Cheers!
Rating: Summary: funny light hearted book women in their 20s can relate to... Review: This book had me laughing from the start. Similar tone to Bridget Jones' Diary. Once you start reading it, it is very difficult to put down. A nice light hearted summer read!
Rating: Summary: Mr Maybe Review: Although a blatant Bridget Jones knockoff, Mr Maybe is such a fun read that it is worth your time.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time Review: Mr Maybe is a major disappointment and extremely predictable. You would have to develop amnesia not to know how the book will end. You know from the first couple of pages what is in store for you. Plus, I have to agree with another reviewer that her basis for a good relationship appears to be sexual stamina. She barely gives poor Ed a chance and you wonder that Nick wants her back. I enjoyed Jemima J very much and even though it did take a rather bizarre turn in the middle, it was still a good read and the author drew some good characters. This was not the case for this book. The only reason I continued reading it was to see what happened to her friends marriage. This is definitely a library book; don't buy.
Rating: Summary: Jane Green Does It Again! Review: I absolutely LOVED this book! Jane Green Has once again made me literally laugh outloud(referring to Libbys mum having dinner at ed's house) and make me not want to put this one down. A GREAT book by a GREAT author!
Rating: Summary: entertaining quick read Review: This book was hard to put down. It was a quick read that I didn't want to end. I laughed out loud!
Rating: Summary: Do I really have to like the bum? Review: I don't usually write reviews of novels, but after reading this novel, I was so angry that I had to! Ok, so if a book is supposed to illicit a response from its readers, then it should get some kudos, but the gratuitous sex scenes and comparisons between the sexual stamina of the two major male characters ticked me off. So...Mr. Maybe is the guy who, although he doesn't make a lot of money, can pleasure you in bed. If that's enlightening and fun to read, go ahead. For me, I'll stick with Bridget Jones and even Jane Green's other novel, Jemima Jones.
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected... Review: I loved Jemima J so I decided to read this book as well -I was somewhat disappointed. Mr. Maybe was very predictable and not as funny as I hoped it would be. It's still a fluffy fun book, but It wasn't a must read.
