Rating: Summary: Mr. NO!! Review: Good grief, only a few chapters into the book, I skipped to the end to see how it would end & took it back to the library. I HATED the main character. Maybe she develops into someone I could possibly stand later in the book, but I couldn't stand her shallow money-lust. The cuss words were used too heavily & the sex scenes a little too trashy for my taste as well.
Rating: Summary: My love life! Review: I picked this book up just on a whim and I was amazed to find that it would become my favorite. This was MY love life and I can't believe the similarities in the advice that her best friend gave her. I would recommend any single girl in her late 20s early 30s read this book - it's a riot!
Rating: Summary: Clever and Catchy... Review: Fantastic book! I adored every minute of it, and didn't put it down. It was fresh, spirited, and I loved it. Single or not... this book is a definite catch.
Rating: Summary: Great Beach Read Review: I liked this book, I couldn't put it down. It's very Bridget Jones like, which I enjoyed. A quick and easy read, perfect to take to the beach or the pool.
Rating: Summary: Sex in the City ¿ London Style Review: I have read three books by Jane Green. These include JEMINA J, BOOKENDS and MR. MAYBE (in that order). Of these, I enjoyed BOOKENDS the most. In fact, I picked up MR. MAYBE because BOOKENDS made me laugh long and hard. MR MAYBE didn't. It is a bit more cerebral and thought provoking. In variety of ways, MR. MAYBE shares many of the elements found in the HBO series, SEX IN THE CITY. Of course, instead of New York, London is the backdrop. In particular, MR. MAYBE shares three positive stylistic approaches that have made SEX IN THE CITY so trendy and fashionable. First, we find a diary-like quality in these pages. The Libby (the central character) is constantly asking herself probing questions about relationships. Like SEX IN THE CITY, the answers to the questions emerge from the social interaction of the characters. Second, the questions she asks herself and her close girlfriends are profound. In a naive sort of way, Libby believes that she is the first person to question the motives and reasoning for getting married. However, these questions and concerns internalized by Libby have been asked by young women and men for over a millennium. Third, Green has developed a seamless technique for character development. Green has a rare quality of pressing the reader to understand the depths of each character's personality by social interaction with other characters and the intensity of the dialog. Green clearly answers a critical question that plagues the mind of many young women. Through the character of Libby, Green responds to the question, "Does a woman need to be married to be happy?" MR MAYBE presents the struggle to come to terms with this question. It sounds paradoxical, but MR MAYBE is light reading that offers profound insight.
Rating: Summary: superficial and irritating Review: I found Libby to be such a self-centered and shallow woman that I couldn't care about whether she'd find happiness with anyone. A much better and much more compelling story can be found in Melissa Bank's Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing.
Rating: Summary: pretty good chick lit Review: I enjoyed this book, but it was just a little too predictable. I was able to predict all of the major plot points chapters before they happened, but it was still worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Utterly Predictable Review: I recently read Mr. Maybe and although I was initially intrigued by the story, I became increasing angry at Libby. She was selfish, mean and overall a weak character.. Spoiler * so oh she chose love at the end instead of wealth.. big suprise..Nick got a book deal, Nick told her that he was in love with her..so predictable.. I can't stand her bichy friends, and stupid brother, Olly. I actually felt bad for Ed, having to go out with such a tramp. To sum up the book: No imagination.
Rating: Summary: Mr Maybe Review: "Mr Maybe" by Jane Green is a GREAT read! I fell in love with this book! Great book about a girl, Libby, in love with Mr Right/Wrong with all the dillemas to go with it and having a great support group of friends and an annoying mom.... It was a page turner and a hard book to put down (I read it in one day!!!)
Rating: Summary: Fun read! Review: This book is a young British woman who has never had the best luck with relationships. She meets Nick who is drop dead gorgeous, great in bed, but commitment-phobic. Although Libby loves the intimacy with Nick, she is very hung up on the fact that he does not have a job and does not have any money. The have a passionate fling that ends. Enter Ed. A not so attractive investment banker who is loaded, drives a Porsche, has an amazing house, but is lousy in bed. Libby convinces herself that she can love him and marry him and live this lifestyle. I won't give away the ending, but you need to read to see if Libby does walk down the aisle and the decisions/heartache she endures.
