Rating: Summary: OK Review: This book was ok, but it wasn't as good as Jemima J! I didn't love the main character so I didn't care what happened to her!
Rating: Summary: Not To Be Taken Too Seriously Review: This book started out really strong, I loved it right from the beginning with her meeting Nick. However, after Libby's 'fling' with Nick ends and she is persuaded by her best friend to date Ed. Libby then flings herself into a relationship with Ed that materializes way to fast and she doesn't handle it very maturely. Even though her best friend seems grounded, Libby is surrounded by superficial people everyday (Amanda) being a PR. Notice the superficial people are pushing her into this relationship (including her mother), while the sensible ones do nothing to persuade her otherwise, even though they seemed to see right through Libby's 'happiness' with Ed. While I liked this book a lot, I thought the author failed to convey Libby's confusion over the situation as realistic. I was not convinced that Libby was unaware the entire time that she really didn't love Ed. I was disappointed by the 'realization' of her true feelings after her day with Nick, I assumed she was well aware of it right from the start, and was only trying to convince those around her so that she didn't come off as superficial. I also didn't like the way the author tried to convince us as readers that Libby wasn't inlove with Nick. It was obvious from the beginning, as well as throughout the entire book, that she was also aware of those feelings. I think some of the reviewers need to be more forgiving of Libby, while she was letting Ed 'buy' her love, I think Ed knew that he was trying to do that all along as well. I do agree with some of the other reviewers about Ed, the author failed to convey him as the arrogant, pushy guy she wanted to, even if it seemed to Libby's friends and family that he was that way. Like I said earlier, I enjoyed this story, I think it needs to be taken light-heartedly to fully encompass the overall meaning of the book.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as her other books ... Review: I enjoyed 'Bookends' and 'Babyville' but from the start I had a major problem with this book - the heroine, Libby, is such a shallow gold-digger I found it impossible to sympathise with her. Why should we root for her to marry the nice penniless Nick when clearly this is a woman who is cut out to be a trophy wife in a loveless marriage, a shallow mindless bimbo who defines success in life totally as a matter of money and designer labels. (Frankly I'd be happier to see her become the victim of a serial killer :)
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: Jane Green is always good in looking at relationship's funny sides. Very witty and warm novel. This type of literature is right there on the ball touching the human side. very light and very funny. No need for reading between the lines kind of stuff but definitely entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Funny Meets Mr. Predictable Review: If you are looking for a fun, humorous chick book, this is it. Along the lines of Bridget Jones' Diary and even High Fidelity. But don't strain your eyes as it's not you, it's the poor editing...the grammar is awful. I can't believe someone actually got paid to edit this book. Clearly he/she was too busy thumbing through bridal magazines to do their work properly. And, even more disappointing is the predictable, all too common in books and movies, ending. But, I must admit, all in all, it was a light, fun read and I believe that was the intention.
Rating: Summary: What a horrible, insulting piece of trash Review: This was one of the worst books I've ever read - a complete waste of time. I would actually give it negative five stars.Jane Green has created a vile, spoiled, stupid "heroine" in Libby. A PR rep, Libby sets out to meet Mr. Right - who in her mind should be "gorgeous" (a description which is used way too much), rich and successful. These qualities are necessary so that Libby can live a life of leisure whilst wearing the latest fashions. She falls for Nick, who while being the requisite "gorgeous," doesn't have a steady job or a nice home. SPOILERS AHEAD * * * * * Of course, Libby dumps Nick and completely leads on Ed, a poor - make that incredibly rich schlub - whom she doesn't find physically attractive, but whom she agrees to prostitute herself, uh, DATE, because he's got big bucks and dotes on her like she's a princess. She's unsure of the relationship, especially since Ed is lousy in bed, but agrees to marry him when he buys her expensive things (and because her equally shallow, horrible mum wants her to marry rich). Of course, Libby eventually sees the error of her ways, breaks Ed's heart and ends up with truelove Nick. Naturally, Nick manages to sell the book he's been working on, so all is well in the end. Forget the fact that this book already sucks due to it being poorly written and filled with grammatical errors. Libby was just beyond awful - a spoiled, little b----, who I wanted to smack silly. I was appalled by the way she led on Ed and made fun of him. And I just couldn't get on board with him being the "bad" catch. I don't care how many characters say he's ugly or old-fashioned or snobby or whatever ... he really didn't show that side. Yeah, Green conveniently stuck in a sentence or two in the end where he suddenly started insulting Libby's friends, but up until that point, he was attentive, kind and patient. And Libby just treated him like crap. I was cheering for Libby to be run over by a bus - or at least to have Nick dump her on her sorry behind. How this ended up a best seller is beyond me. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS DRECK!!!
Rating: Summary: Fun book, but whiny heroine Review: The book is fun, good for killing a few hours. It's not as funny as "Nanny Diaries" or even "The Devil Wears Prada". My problem with the book is that the heroine is way too whiny and shallow. She cares about three things and nothing else: money, designer clothes and great sex. First she cannot get close to Nick (the poor guy) because he has no money, though he is otherwise perfect in everything else. Then she meets Ed, the rich guy. Ed treats her better than anyone else, yet she strings him along (takes him to bedroom, gets engaged, says she loves him and gets expensive gifts) and breaks his heart in the end. She blames Ed for his mustache, yet she never told him to get rid of it. She keeps saying Ed tries to change her into something she is not. Yeah right, why doesn't she say that when Ed buys her the $1200 dress? She is the one who does all the wishing and changing, not Ed. I don't see how she thinks she deserves either Nick or Ed. She is superficial, self centered and size 12!!!
Rating: Summary: Mr. Definite! Review: This is the first book of Jane Green's that I have actually finished reading. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I started reading "Jemima J", read about 50 pgs or so, but just couldn't get into it. I started reading "Mr. Maybe" & couldn't put it down! I've read the whole thing in a couple of days. It's about a 27 year-old Libby Mason, who works in PR & about her love life adventures. She has to figure out what's more important to her - money or love, and she almost makes the wrong choice. This book made me laugh at times & almost cry other times. It's a wonderful read. I loved this book so much, that I now want to give "Jemima" a second chance.
Rating: Summary: Maybe my expectations were high Review: I found Mr. Maybe boring. It was different than Jemima J.
Rating: Summary: A fun read...to go along with a cute cover! Review: Defnitely a chick book - but a fun one if you need something light and easy. What Libby fore sees in her future is not an aspiring writer that is broke but has a lot of charm and good in bed. She meets Nick (the author) and has what is suppose to be a fling. But even though she tries to keep it casual, Nick makes his place in her life and is hard to ignore. Now, Ed - on the other hand is just what she had in mind. Rich, well-known, and liked- but charmer he's not. Maybe there's something here to work with though. So Libby strikes out to see if Ed is Mr. Right while Nick is always in the background - Mr. Maybe? Will it be Ed (Mr. Rich but doesn't "have it"- in or out of bed) or will it be Nick (Mr. Broke but a charmer)?
