Rating: Summary: Fun, steamy, enjoyable read Review: I read this in one night finishing at 4AM and I found myself stifeling laughter (chilli scene). I had to find out what happened. The ending was a bit abrupt but on the whole I loved the novel. Some of the scenes were rather steamy and made you wish you knew someone like Nick.
Rating: Summary: Trashy Talk Review: Do all the women in England....London talk like truck drivers? Maybe I'm insulting the truck drivers here. I find the "language" took away from the book. All the foul language drove me crazy and I wonder if that's what is out there today.
Rating: Summary: Funny! Review: MR MAYBE by Jane Green
November 22, 2004
I've read several books by Jane Green, and MR MAYBE is one of my favorites. Libby Mason is in search of her Mr. Right, who has to be well off as well as good looking to fit into this category. Unfortunately, she is finding that the men she's attracted to are never attracted to her, while the ones she's not really interested in she can't get rid of.
Then, she meets Nick. He's cute and funny and everything she'd want in a man, but he's got no money. He's a starving writer who keeps food on the table by collecting unemployment (the English version of it). He is definitely not MR Right, but he sure could be a fun fling, in the meantime. So, Libby and Nick have a wonderful affair, telling each other that neither is ready to settle down, and this is just for fun. Unfortunately, Nick sees that Libby is falling for him, and he pulls away from her and leaves her.
Libby is heart broken, but then she meets Ed, a not-so-attractive older man (at least by her standards: she's in her late 20's) but he fits the criteria she's looking for. He's loaded. If she marries Ed, he would have her living the life she's always wanted. The bad news is that she's not really over Nick, and she's not sure she really fancies Ed. What is a girl to do?
For fans of Chick Lit and beyond, this is a recommended read. Each of Jane Green's books is different, so it's always difficult to predict how she will write her next book. However, I can say that so far, I've enjoyed nearly every one, except for BOOKENDS, which I found a little irritating for some reason. But MR MAYBE was definitely a good book. It's funny, with characters you will enjoy getting to know, and for some reason I did compare this one a little to Bridget Jones but not sure why. Something about the heroine, and the way she related to her parents, made me picture a Bridget Jones type person in Libby. That's not a bad thing, either. I am looking forward to the next book, whatever it'll be.
Rating: Summary: Eh?! Review: Personally I LOVED Jemina J by Ms. Green. I had this one on my shelf at home and decided it would be nice to read some "chick lit". Some parts were BORNING and others were great.
I liked Libby. We have all been in her shoes at one time or another in one form or another. Jules seems likes a great best friend. It is not the characters that I have a problem with, it is their reliance on men.
I mean ok fine easy for me to talk (I am married to a FAB guy) but come one. There is only so much of the helpess female lead character I can take.
If you have nothing else to do, it is not a bad read. I would say grab Jemima J and leave this one be.
Rating: Summary: Sorry Review: I really didn't like this book, I got half way through and decided I just couldn't keep going. I really enjoyed Bookend and Jemina J but this book just bored me.
