Rating: Summary: No maybe about Mr. Maybe Review: Meet Libby Mason: British, 27, single, looking to be the other half of a couple. Will her dream man be Nick? He's gorgeous, funny, charming, fantastic in bed, but on the dole. Or will it be Ed? Stinking rich, doting, but socially inept and the lousiest lover imaginable? Following Libby along her bumpy road to a decision is a tremendously funny reading experience. Less neurotic than Bridget Jones, Libby is an Everywoman when it comes to men and dating and you don't have to be British, shoot, you don't have to be in your twenties, to see yourself in Libby. Written in chatty first-person, MR. MAYBE is a book you won't want to end.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: This book is great! I found Green's writing to be very amusing and entertaining. Like other reviewers have said, if you are in your twenties and single, this book is for you. Even though it is set in England, it is true to American dating as well. I finished this book in 2 or 3 days and the next day, I bought Jemima J (just as good as Mr. Maybe).
Rating: Summary: Good, but somehow...not great Review: In the beginning, I totally enjoyed the book. What with the introduction of Libby and her problems with men, one can connect with that right? And so we also meet up with Nick, and we fall in love with him because it's obvious that he's gorgeous and fun, since she tells us that about a million times. Then we feel for her when he breaks up with her, and in comes Ed, the rich and powerful, too old of a man. We hope that Libby doesn't marry him, and we hope that her eyes are big enough not to take in this very patronizing man. But she does, and they get engaged, and I just got so mad at her because it just shows how shallow and superficial she is. That's the one part that turned me away from this book. Yes, this book is about a women's heart and mind, her heart telling her that having great sex with Nick is great and that he might be The One, but...her mind wants to fantasize what it would be like to live in the rich world, full of money, because Ed is a millionaire who doesn't know how to do it in bed! So yes, Libby is torn between these two men, and it's a great story, but I just wish she wasn't so shallow.
Rating: Summary: I could hardly wait for free time to read this book! Review: This was my first Jane Green novel to read, but I plan to run out and buy Jemima J next. Mr. Maybe really held my attention, and I found myself reading into the wee hours of the night to find out what happened next. I could so relate to Libby's designer tastes and looked forward to hearing about her dating excursions. It's a fabulous summer read!
Rating: Summary: Mr. Maybe? the answer is yes! Review: If you are in your 20's, single, & working, you will LOVE this book. I found the situations, characters, and even the dialogue to be very true to life. I associated many of my own experiences with the main character's. This book is so much fun you won't want to put it down. It flows nicely and the characters are so loveable you want to know what will happen to them. For any Jane Green lovers out there, you won't be disappointed! This book is as good as Jemima J, if not better!! I have leant this book to several of my friends because it was so witty and well developed. Take this book to the beach this summer, or spend a weekend alone with mr. maybe. You won't be sorry!
Rating: Summary: READ IN 2 DAYS Review: This book was great. So good in fact that I read it at work when my boss was on the phone. After I finished I went out and bought Jane Green's other book Jamima J. which was good too.
Rating: Summary: Best Ever Review: It takes a really good book to get me intrested and this one I could not put down for anything! I highly recommend this book
Rating: Summary: You'll highlight sentences Review: When I was abroad in London and was scouring the WHSmith by my flat for something good to read. It was by simple chance that I picked up a copy of this book. I went home, and then cringed at the thought that I bought yet another Bridget Jones-esque novel. And I was pleasantly suprised. the characters could be your friends, the guys are guys you could find yourself dating and best of all--it doesn't end in a nice little package. And there are more true sentences in this book than I've seen in other fiction geared towards 20-somethings; and Green doesn't dumb her fiction down and insult the reader who is often lost in a virtual mud puddle of cliches. read it. you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Can't put the book down Review: This book is a true reflection of a single women. I could relate to many aspects of Libby's life. Every girl has a fantasy of marrying a rich man, but what are you willing to compromise to achieve your dreams??
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite romantic comedies! Review: Jane Green knows how to write a romantic book with witty characters and page-turning dialogue. Mr. Maybe's heroine, Libby, is looking for a suitable husband. She has two candidates: Nick and Ed. She has an enquiring mind: will she prefer Nick -- handsome, funny, smart, and financially challenged -- or Ed -- an investment banker with loads of cash, but unattractive and needy? It sounds as though Libby is a self-centered gold digger, but you'd have to read the novel in order to grasp the big picture. The heroine is similar to a lot of women that I have encountered in real life. The writing is sharp and full of British wit. I highly recommend it. In fact, I highly recommend all of Jane Green's novels.
