Rating: Summary: A Summer Must Read!! Review: Mr. Maybe is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. The book is so funny, at times I found myself laughing out loud, at one point in the book,I was in tears from laughing so hard (but I am not going to tell you what part!). The author truely captures what life as a single woman searching for love is like, the changes we make in ourselves for a man, the relationships with our mother when it comes to men, and the relationships with our best girlfriends, the first time, the first kiss. Everything that woman go through in their search for love is in this book. This book is a must read!
Rating: Summary: NO, NO, NO! Review: I read Jemima J. a few years back and told a friend I "enjoyed" the book. Not to long after, she surprised me with another Jane Green book, Mr. Maybe. I'm just glad I didn't spend my own money on it. In one word this book is highly predictable! The author (Jane Green) goes out of her way to emphasize certain aspects of the characters, so much so I found myself asking "have I read this passage before?". By repeatedly stressing attitudes and feelings of her characters she kills the plot by making the book predictable. Between the jacket cover and the first two chapters I was right on with the ending.
Rating: Summary: Mr Maybe, Mr. Right, Mr. Wrong.. which one.. Review: After having this book in my pile for so long I finally decided to give it a go. I was very happy to have read this book. The characters were a riot and Libby had me laughing alot. Libby Mason is 27 years old working in PR and of course looking for someone that she date and hopefully fall in love with. Well she meets Nick the guy who rocks her world, but just isn't the type Libby normally goes for. He doesn't work, he doesn't have a lot of money and Libby just can't stand his friends and of course his flat is just what she thought it would be a pigsty, but Libby can't ignore the fact that Nick is gorgeous and satisfys her in bed. With all that what more could a girl like Libby want. Well Libby has always wanted a man who could care for her finacally, and who loves her and wants her around. Then Libby meets Ed. Ed is what she would call her dream man, well aside the fact that he has a ugly mustache, snotty friends, and is way to straight for her and of course he can't satisfy her like Nick could (not even after speed reading the Joy Of Sex). But he does take care of Libby and show her what she has always wanted. As time goes on and more time Libby spends with Ed she realizes that he might not just be the one for her, but what is it that Libby wants. Libby at times I felt was a bit snobbish herself, but that made her just a bit more loveable. I loved her best friend Jules and how she was always there to help Libby out. The friends Libby had were a great group always there to show Libby things. Libbys mum was a riot, just wanting her daughter to marry Ed so that she could say that her daughter had bagged the most eligiable man in London, but as time goes on she realizes that her daughter knows what she wants. Jane Green's writing is wonderful her books always make me laugh and they are a quick read. Overall Mr. Maybe was a quick read and I love the genre of books like this. Single girl, meets guy, great set of friends. I can't get enough of them even if after a while they become very predictiable.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book Review: I bought this book by accident, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best mistakes I have ever made. One of the most interesting parts of the novel was the incredibly real dialogues and relationships between characters.
Rating: Summary: Forget Bridget Jones - hello Libby Mason! Review: This book was so much more than I ever expected! It was great fun to read and would make a hilarious movie. Libby Mason is bad at relationships, shallow, and unsure of her desires. She is a chameleon with men as she changes to suit their interests. She is suddenly torn between what her heart is telling her and what her brain is thinking when she meets a powerful, wealthy man. Ed has everything she has ever dreamed of - money, fame, a mansion - and he keeps sending her flowers, gifts and takes her to all the "IT" places. On the other hand, her recently ended fling, which still has her reeling, was with Nick - a friend, a guy from the wrong side of town with no job, who likes to go to pubs, and discussing politics. This book is hilarious, thanks largely in part to the relationship between Libby and her best friend Jules, whose conversations had me laughing so hard I cried. A great summer read!
Rating: Summary: VERY easy read but may be lacking in significant substance Review: This book was great, really, but it just left me empty at the end. Definitely an enjoyable read but definitely not one that will necessarily feed your heart and soul.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Maybe...Maybe NOT! Review: Jane Green's Mr. Maybe was a huge disappointment. I found it very hard to relate to, or connect with Libby, the main character. The extent of her shallowness and materialism made it hard for me to root for her. There were some rather implausible parts of the book that shot major bullet holes in Ms. Green's plotline. It was so obvious from page one that Libby and Nick would end up together...I didn't even read the synopsis on the back cover! The other parts of the book bored me so that I bloody wished it would end already. I can only hope Ms. Green's next novel is more substantial in character and plot.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Maybe Review: Cute, sexy, fun read. A story of a woman who starts out extremely shallow in regards to love, but comes in to her own when she gets everything she wants (or think she wants).
Rating: Summary: Libby is so shallow!; beware - spoilers Review: I have read Jane Green's two other books, and I did not enjoy this one nearly as much as the others, because unlike Jemima and Cath, Libby is completely unlikeable. I simply could not believe that she would not take her fabulous Gucci bag to break up with Ed because she feared he might take it back! We were supposed to feel sorry for Libby as she strung this poor man along. I felt sorry for Ed. Who cares if he had an icky mustache - at least he was true to himself. Yea, yea, yea, she comes to her senses, and is "cruel to be kind," and breaks it off with Ed, but then, wouldn't you know it - Nick falls in love with her _and_ gets a publishing deal. That's all Libby needs - reinforcement for her raging materialism. Green tries to justify Libby's behavior by making her mother seem even more shallow. But Libby hates her mother - you'd think she would not want to be like her. Jules is right, Libby is a chameleon with her boyfriends. I can assume now that she and Nick are going to end up together, she will be going back to wearing the jeans and sneakers she had so much trouble getting used to when she first starting seeing Nick? Ed was not the one for Libby, but she changed herself for Nick too.
