Sam and Alyssa's story i enjoyed even more i hope this is not the end for them they are so hot together i think they both deserve some hapiness.Suzanne Brockman if you read these reviews please put in a better ending for them nobody whatever the circumstances are should be trapped in a loveless relationship i just stared reading her books i started with the defiant hero it was great i cant wait for the next book i hope Sam and Alyssa are in it and they have a better ending please get rid of Mary Lou. I strongly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: OVER THE EDGE is well written, but very dark for a "romance" Review: OVER THE EDGE is a carefully constructed, well written "romance" novel, but be warned: it is extremely dark. This is not a "get away from reality" book. Themes include sexual harrassment, gang rape, Alzeheimer's, child molestation, Jewish-Gentile lovers caught in World War II. This is perhaps too much to carry in one book. Add to that at least one tragic romance and one that the reader expected to be resolved and was not. If Brockmann wants to write a really good novel and not a romance, she needs to change forums and go with it. This attempt to combine forms just doesn't work. The Sam-Alyssa romance has become a soap.
Rating: Summary: The Best one of the series so far! Review: I almost gave this book a four star rating...but upon reflection, it turns out my only peeve is just that..my personal pet peeve.Let me start by saying that in my opinon this book, Over The Edge far outshines The Unsung Hero and The Defiant Hero. This book had everything. A great romance...lots of action and the great dialogue that Ms. Brockmann is so famous for. I simply could not put this book down.As for the pet peeve: in the previous two books in this Navy Seals series, Ms. Brockmann incorporates an older character who spends alot of time reflecting back in history, all which the reader is privy to. This is very annoying to me. Fortunately it was less so in Over The Edge...not as much of the book was spent on reflections of WWII.You see, this book already had secondary characters which we had met in previous books: Alyssa and Sam..sigh..their story is actually more riveting than the main characters, Stan and Teri.I loved the ending, the Stan & Teri situation was wrapped up nicely and I liked that Ms. Brockmann left a huge twist in the relationship of Sam and Alyssa. They are definitely a tragic couple. I can't wait until the next installment. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: No lightweight Review: Don't let this one disappointed reviewer fool you - this is another great book by Suzanne Brockmann (and by the way, I believe that we will meet Sam and Lys again in the next installment). Anyway, "Over the Edge" kept me up long after my usual bedtime and I simply could not read it fast enough. Perversely, I was also sorry to see it end. The typical dilemma one faces when reading a really thrilling and at the same time multi-layered book. It amazes me, how Ms. Brockmann managed to interlace so many different characters and story lines into one nearly perfect whole once again. Over the Edge is not a fluffy book - it covers many topics some may feel uncomfortable with. But it manages to do this in a way, that allows the reader to wholly sympathize with the characters. In the end, one simply has to cheer them for their staying power. I am definitely looking forward to the next installment of her ongoing SEAL's tale (and Ms.Brockmann, if you should read this, I would not mind meeting Max and Gina again ;-) )
Rating: Summary: Loved Over the Edge! Review: Suzanne just keeps getting better and better! Of the three books in the SEAL Team 16 series I think this is the best one. Her dialogue is excellent (as always) and the action sequences are particularly good in this book. The plot flows nicely -- I could easily see this book as the basis of a good action movie! The characters are sharply drawn and the relationships are believable and exciting. Great job, Suzanne... can't wait for the next installment!
Rating: Summary: Gut Wrenching! Review: This book is so fantastic it's hard to find the words. No, not every story line in the book ends with 'happily ever after' so if you are looking for that don't read the book. However, if you don't it will be your loss. As another reviewer said, it brings out every emotion and then some. I see several possibilities here for spin-off books and hope that some of the issues left open do get resolved in later books but regardless it's a book you must not miss.
Rating: Summary: Hooked! Review: OK-I'll admit it. I'm hooked on Suzanne Brockmann's Seal Team 16 novels and I want all the team members to eventually get hooked up with some fabulous woman who is going to make them happy for the rest of his life, etc., etc. This book was no different from the others--lots of excitement, a World War II subplot, and a happily ever after at the end. Except for Sam Starrett & Alyssa Locke--the one couple you want to get together. Right up to the end, you know that everything is just going to work out for them, but then Brockman throws a big curve. Why can't these two just get together already? I know that I will read the next installment to the Seal Team 16 saga, but I was very disappointed at the end of Over the Edge. In fact, I was tempted to throw the book across the room!
Rating: Summary: When will Sam and Alyssa get their own story? Review: Yes, I enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and thrilling and I really enjoyed the two lead characters. But...Ms. Brockmann cannot continue to make her secondary characters more interesting than her primary ones. I found myself skipping through the main parts to get back to Sam and Alyssa. When do they get to be the central characters in their own book? I cannot believe this is the way their story will end. Yet, if I understand correctly, the next novel is about Wildcard. Nonetheless, this is another great ride from SB. Even though the hero- Stan - is sometimes as dense as mud....Teri obviously forgave him, so I guess I can too.
Rating: Summary: Major disappointment Review: What happened? I was very disappointed with Sam and Alyssa's romance. At least 75% of the anticipation for this book was to see how this rocky, funny and deep hearted relationship would end. Sam was honorable, rough and somewhat of a jerk, but he had a mind of his own. The end of his relationship with Aylssa was a cop-out, so 1950's and very much out of character. He and Aylssa deserved much better. It was not an enjoyable read. It seems as though Ms. Brockmann got tired of Sam and Aylssa's story line mid-way through the book and just "kicked it to the curb".
