Summary: Wow , you must read it I could'nt put it down love it
Review: a must have truly a good book must read it

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Loved it! (as usual)
Review: Oh man...... (big sigh!)..... another wonderful, sweet, (hot!) love story by LK!!! She writes about some of the most down to earth characters I've ever read about. The hero in this one, Hunter, was not only gorgeous & sexy as they come.... but his thoughts on life are almost heart-wrenching..... I just fell head over heals for him. I will admit that there were a couple of holes in the story concerning him.... but not enough to make it glaringly obvious.
Lara, our heroine, did get a little annoying to me. She claimed she wanted independence, but didn't mind using Hunter on more than one occassion. Her personality was kind of contradictory (sp?) - she was suppose to be overly compassionate & extremely good hearted to everyone in the village & to orphans (even to her disgusting relatives) - but she was completely cold & manipulative with Hunter. I think that maybe LK just didn't give me enough of a feel for Lara's bad feelings towards him; Not like him ok - but not the disgust she felt. I also got a little tired of her playing the tease & then saying 'Nope! I've changed my mind'... not cool. However, the story kept me interested enough that I didn't get bogged down in it.
Anyway, that said, I still don't think that you can beat a LK historical for sweet, sweet love stories. I also loved the twists & turns LK put in this one. As usual, Lk wrote a fabulous ending - she never wraps them up too fast & always leaves me with a great big sigh. I definitely recommend this one of lovers of historical romance - especially if you like the sweet (& hot!) kind.

Summary: As usual, Kleypas' hero will make you drool
Review: Kleypas creates heroes so sexy, so intense, and so passionate that you'll wish you could step right into the pages of her novels, kick out the heroine, and take her place. This novel is no different. The hero is passionate about the heroine. I do agree with others that the heroine's aversion to making love gets tedious after a while (I know I couldn't resist the hero that long, I don't care what background I supposedly had with him!). I also thought that it was rather cold of her to turn in the hero without confronting him. After all, wasn't she supposed to love him? However, she eventually does succumb to his lovemaking (I love the closet scene and where he tells her he's going to kiss her), and she does save him.

The love scenes are hot (in usual Kleypas style), and the love story is passionate.

Summary: Somewhat Lacking in Strength
Review: Overall, I thought the book was good. The suspense concerning the long lost husband added a certain quality to the book that you don't usually see in many historical romance novels.

My only problem with the book was the character of Lara. Usually, Ms. Kleypas' female protagonists are strong willed, independant women, who let neither society nor aspiring suitors to get in their way. However, Lara proves to be a very flight character, latching onto which ever side seems to fit the best at the time. She starts showing moments of strength toward the end of the novel, but in my opinion that effort was too little, too late.

Summary: Mixed emotions
Review: I give the book four stars for Hunter and his emotions for Lara.
Also the romance scenes are worth five stars. But I found the
description of Lara's personality to be boring at times. Her
excessive prudishness, her martyr complex and dislike for sex
all dragged the book down. Everytime Hunter was making the plot
interesting, Lara would make it boring with her personality.
The author would have made the book far more interesting if
Lara was more responsive to Hunters advances rather than being
such a wet blanket. I think if Lara had slowly responded to
Hunters seduction it would have been far more interesting than
her constant semi-frigid resistance. Also the continual reference
to her concern for others and her good deeds got boring. Human
beings are complex and when an author harps on only one aspect
of a persons personality (probably to fill up some pages in the
book) I get bored. I would have rather heard of some other traits
of Laras than all the continual harping over the orphans. Variety
is the spice of life. We have to pay [money] to buy a romance novel,
the author should make a bit of an effort to be more entertaining.
Also, when Hunter gave Lara a sexy nightgown and wanted her to
wear it, she should have been flattered but she thought the
nightgown was disgusting and that it was disgusting to wear it.
That really spoiled the romance in the book, her reaction was
all wrong.

Summary: Based on Return of Martin Guerre
Review: I love "The Return of Martin Guerre". This book, similar to that story, was excellent. The chemistry between Hunter and Laura was sizzling. It was a fun romantic read.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A bit too predictable for my own tastes..
Review: Although I did like the "You" series, I felt this book just didn't impact me as much. I do like Ms. Kleypas' writing style, but after reading "Someone to Watch Over Me", I felt this was another retelling with a slightly different twist. It was rather predictable and I was disappointed at how things played out.

Summary: A wonderful, romantic story

Summary: I'LL CHERISH THIS EXTRAORDINARY BOOK 'TILL MY DYING DAY !!!!
Review: I luuuv Lisa Kleypas to pieces. I've read & kept all 16 of her novels. Everytime I finish 1, I'd sigh & think this is her best. Then I'd consume another & say she's outdone herself once again. My favorites are Forever My Love, Midnight Angel & Somewhere I'll find you. But this 1 takes the cake, it's the most romantic story of all & has the most compelling characters ever penned. U can't compare Jodie Foster - Richard Gere's corpse & corpse chemistry (in Sommersby) to Hunter & Lara's intense sexual tension. Methinks Hunter is the sexiest man alive (oh well in romance fiction anyway). In my biased opinion, he's the most exceptional, unforgettable, adorable, fascinating, passionate, gentle, loving, charming, dashing, wondrous, sensual hero ever created (did I leave anything back there ? =P). Lara, heroine with a heart of gold, is reduced to a mixed state of confusion, misery & sexual daze whenever Hunter is in the vicinity. She's understandably frigid after the painful beddings she experienced with her insensitive husband in the past. She resents the fact that just when she has her independence, here comes her long-lost husband to wreak havoc on her life. Lara desperately wants to believe that Hunter's really a changed man -as he claims to be- who'd never hurt her again (in & out of bed) & not a chameleon. Hunter is hopelessly entranced by his wife & tries his damnedest to convince her that somehow a second chance is being given to them to rediscover love & trust. Like Lara, I also fall in love with Hunter more with every page I devour (done 'bout 101 times already), for his unwavering determination to break down her barricade & ice-melting ways to weaken her senses. Hats off to Lara too for not giving in too easily. She panicked at the thought of fulfilling her bargain to make love to her husband after midnight. She put her desperate plan to divert Hunter's amorous attentions into gear by inviting Hunter's former mistress to the ball. Her outrageous scheme backfired & pushed an enraged Hunter over the edge. He finally took matters into his own hands & my oh my... that scalding HOT stairwell scene & the ones that follow are nuthin' short of breathtaking & guaranteed to curl your hair, toes & fingers (yes, really). Ms. Kleypas has really brought her trademark sensual scenes 100 notches higher here. The dramatic chapters at the end will tug at your heartstrings & what a beautiful ending (sniff) !. Words can't do justice to what U'd feel when U finally put this sensational classic down on your bedside table. I never wanted the pages to end then & there. I'd be the happiest woman on earth if Ms. Kleypas'd be so kind as to include Hunter & Lara in 1 of her upcoming books (wistful sigh).
