Rating: Summary: It's time to let the Cynster series go Review: The Cynster series started strongly, and I look forward to each new book. But this book is the end of the line for me, and hopefully for the author as well. The novel just wasn't very interesting, and while the sex scenes are certainly sexy - they're also very repetitive. After the first couple I just skimmed them to see if they ever advanced the plot, which they didn't. I think that Stephanie Laurens has fallen into the trap of liking her own characters so much that she thinks her readers will want to keep reading to see what happens to them. She doesn't seem to put the same effort into actually making the books good, as though we'll be content to just know that now both the twins are happy. (She's not the only one who falls into this trap as witnessed by the latest Kleypas novel, Lady Sophia's Lover.) In short, I'd skip this book if you're a longtime fan, and buy some of her earlier novels if you aren't.
Rating: Summary: Snoozeville Review: I really do love the Cynster series - well, the ones with the male Cynsters, anyway. The entire plot-line of this book was sex and the in-between frustration as the two main characters try to find the next location for their tryst. Basically, she asks him to marry her because she believes he's poor and its a great way to get the man she loves to marry her without saying she loves him. He doesn't really need the money, but agrees and soon realizes he loves her. They spend the whole book (when they weren't having sex or planning to have sex or thinking about the next time they would have sex or the last time they had sex) thinking about how to get the other to love them without admitting their own feelings. Also missing from this story was the Cynster characters. I was hoping to get more of the characters from the earlier part of the series, but only got very brief snatches here and there. I was so incredibly irritated. Ms. Laurens did, however, get pretty imaginative with the sex, though. She obviously spent most of her time writing developing sex scenes. Not worth the read. Just avoid it - but do get the earlier Cynster books!
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the Secret lover Review: Somehow, writing the same thing again and again, it becomes to feel outdated. Or the passion went out of her writing. I do not know if I'll buy her other books from now on, also I have all the others from her until now.
Rating: Summary: Amelia finally gets her man Review: After Amanda gets her man in "On a Wild Night" you can only imagine how determined Amelia is. Actually her plan was already in place while her sister Amanda was winning over Dexter. She puts it into motion very shortly after here sister's marriage. If you have read any of the Bar Cynster series of books then you know that you should almost feel sorry for Luc as he is who Amelia has her sights on. But, as with all of the Cynster clan their heart is in the correct place but they seem to not get all of the facts before they operate. In fact she is a bit stunned when at the very beginning of the book he agrees to her proposal, but what she doesn't know is that he has plans of his own.... As usual this is a very sensual book! Another winner by Stephanie Laurens
Rating: Summary: Yawn Yawn Yawn! Review: I can usually read one of Stephanie Lauren's books in less than two days. It has taken me 4 days just to get to page 160. Not only was this book boring, but I was sadly disappointed that Ms. Laurens would be satisfied to end her Bar Cynster family series with such an unromantic story. There was no spark or true affection displayed between Lucien and Amelia, and every intimate scene was premediated. No spontaneity. All you need to knew is that Luc and Amelia end up getting married, so no need to waste your time reading how it happened. NoDoze might come in handy if you insist on reading the entire book.
Rating: Summary: Amelia Cyster's Story Review: Although this book is not as good as others in this series it is still worth picking up and giving it a read. Many of the characters from other novels make a re-appreance in this story, and even Lucian's evil brother Edward (you meet in in Amanda's story On A Wild Night) comes back to cause trouble and torment. Amelia has decided that Lucien Ashford is the one for her and nothing is going to stand in her way. Lucian is now in a place where he can consider marriage and is not adverse to marrying Amelia. Conflict comes from neither one of them communicating how they really feel about each other and why they want to marry. Although there is nothing really new in this book it was still entertaining but it did not make it onto my keeper shelf.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I bought this book without realizing what is really was, and was truly happy to see it was Amelia Cynster story. However, after reading the first third of the book, I was soon extremely disappointed. This book lacked any intrigue. It was very straightforward, without any interesting plot. Characters lacked depth and emotion, it was completely unclear how they fell in love, why they fell in love, etc. All that we got from the book were numerous, detailed, sex scenes. Overall, I found this book to be a huge disappointment.
Rating: Summary: On a Wicked Dawn leaves a yawn Review: This book is indubitably as different as day and night when juxtaposed to Lauren's last feverish offering On A Wild Night. In term of quality too - when the monotonous plot tears asunder the promising sensual premise of Amelia Cynster's marriage plan to Lucien Ashford. The trival plot of a theft and the slow pacing of the story leaves no outlet for development. One can imagine the speed of the narration when it takes 421 pages to convince Luc to declare his love. While Laurens tries to salvage the sinker with her trademark sensuality, the passionate scenes become rapidly overblown and none so subtle as her sizzling scenes in On a Wild Night. Even the characters drop in their appeal. One wonders how insensitive and childish can Amelia be in her flirting with other gentleman just to get Luc's attentions. Luc's possessive nature borders too much on jealousy and rage. On a Wicked Dawn degenerates into a mundane read as realization dawn upon yawning readers that Laurens is out of her league in this one.
Rating: Summary: Is too much sex in a romance possible? Review: I know this is a romance so sex scenes are expected, however, I felt that the author just threw way too many of these scenes because she had no other story line. I started flipping through pages because the story was getting redundant. I know the basis of all romance novels is the conflict between the characters and their inability to say "I love you" right away, but this was just taking it a bit too far. The subplot of the thief did not fit in at all. Besides, I knew from the beginning who the thief was. Amanda's story in A Wild Night was better than this one, but still not that great. At least the characters were developed much better than in this book. I think I will have to stay with the male Cynsters. They are much more exciting. I would recommend borrowing someone's copy rather than purchasing unless you have a whole Cynster library like I do. Looking forward to Simon's (and Portia's?) story.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good. Review: I really enjoyed reading this novel. If you are looking for a novel that has plenty of love scenes. In fact, enough to keep you sweating pleasantly, this is the book for you. However, if you are looking for a book with a good balance of love and mystery like her previous books in the series, this one doesn't add up. Amelia isn't as wild as her twin Amanda, but that was mentioned in the previous novel so I wasn't expecting outlandish antics. Also, unlike the previous books, both characters knew they were head over heals in love with the other, so it seems silly that it took the whole novel for them to admit that. I did enjoy the recap on Devil and Honoria and the fact that Devil finally told Honoria he loved her. As far as the mystery part of this book goes. It really took a long time for it to get going and it was a very obvious one to me. I figured out who it was with the first occurrence and it didn't really dawn on me that they she didn't state who it was. I found it silly that the girl was so gullable and bought into Kirby's [junk], but I guess a novel with nothing but blissful love would be pretty boring. I really enjoy Stephanie Laurens works and am very much into the Cynster series. I can hardly wait for Simon's story. They sort of alluded to it in this novel. This story was sweet and different from the others. It didn't have the whole female or male having to convince the other to marry them drama. That was kinda nice for a change, but I really hope her preceding novels aren't like this one. It just didn't have the fire the other ones did, but it was good and I would recommend it.
