Summary: Worst Laurens Book EVER
Review: I love Stephanie Laurens, but I didn't think she could write a worse book than "On a Wild Night". I was WRONG - this is worse. Virtually unreadable, improbable, and the hero and heroine are both snobby twits. I just hope that if in future novels she chooses to revisit the Cynster family, that the twins are away on a trip around the world somewhere when she does!

Summary: Don't Believe the Other Reviews
Review: This book is not as bad as the other reviews make it out to be. This book admittedly does not have the big misunderstanding or a mystery to be solved. It is a story of two people, Amelia and Luc, coming to grips with their relationship. Luc is afraid of allowing love to control his life, ie giving Amelia the power to control him through love. Amelia is afraid to admit she loves Luc for fear of scaring him off the relationship they have. It is a wonderful story and Ms Laurens should be congradulated for reading this story this way. I hope more writers will starting doing the same.

Summary: A Major Disappointment
Review: I have read and thoroughly enjoyed each of the Cynster series from Ms. Laurens, and this is the only one that I put down without finishing. The plot was too farfetched, the characters uninspiring and the storyline failed to engage or maintain my interest. Perhaps this novel was too rushed to the publisher without the author's more typical craftsmanship? A disappointment for me.

Summary: This book was 200 pages too long!!
Review: I was pretty hard on the sister book "On a Wild Night" when I reviewed it but I was determined to keep an open mind about this one. As with "On a Wild Night" the book starts out promisingly enough, but it doesn't last. And it is a shame. Amelia and Luc are appealing characters, but there is no story here. And who cares who the klepto is that keeps stealing stuff from all the house parties? There is just not enough story here.

The thing that annoyed me most was that this couple seemed obsessed with who was "in control" of the relationship. How pathetic to feel the need to be so calculating and manipulative in a relationship with someone you supposedly care about. If I had to read one more line about who "held the reigns" in the relationship I'd scream! I kept asking myself what the point of this book was. These two seemed to be pretty much in love with each other from the first chapter but we have to plow through 300 more pages before they finally admit it. Why? What's the point?

I got so bored that I put this book down three separate times and read three other books in between before I forced myself to finish this one. Three FAR SUPERIOR books: Heart of the Condor by Laura Renken (excellent!), The Seduction by Julia Ross (beautiful!) and Master of Seduction by Kinley McGregor (fun!).

Do yourself a favor - read one (or all!) of these other books and skip this one!

Summary: formulaic plot, little sizzle
Review: By now all readers of the Cynster series are familiar with the basic plot, and its really worn thin in this latest one. First, the characters have never been true early 19th century types, and Amelia, like her sister Amanda, is more of a 20th century go getter, which leaves nothing to the imagination. Romance has to have some anticipation, and this has none, zero, nada. Once again, the main characters can't admit their love for one another believing it will give the other power over them. And you get tired of reading of will they, won't they, when will they, while all the time they're leaping into each other's arms. And of course the male characters in this series are virtually the same except for their so called interests, in this one its breeding hunting dogs. Lastly, the so called mystery that needs to be solved once again, that will bring in select characters from previous books in the series is so, so weak. You know who the so-called mysterious thief is from the start. And could one believe that a neighbor will come to a party at Luc and Amelia's house and leave the party without even remembering he left his daughter behind? And there is no explanation whatsoever of how one of Luc's sisters wanders off to confront the bad guy on her own. I'm afraid Ms. Laurens has gotten very lazy in her success.

Summary: Not impressed
Review: I was very disappointed in this book, which I read right after Amanda's story. It seemed to me it was mainly erotic interludes with a thinly veiled mystery plot interspersed. I had a hard time reading it, and I love the Cynster series.

Summary: save your money!
Review: Like many other readers, I have eagerly read every one of the Cynster series. But this one is a waste of time. One reviewer noted it took them a week of perseverance to get through it. I'm going on 3 weeks and am still not done! Amelia deserved a better story and better character developement, I'm still not sure what sets her apart, other than "she's a Cynster female." And Luc has no obvious character other than being spineless. All in all, a pretty boring story-less read. Guess that's what happens when a usually good writer starts "cranking them out."

Summary: Slow read
Review: I am a huge fan of this series, but unfortuatley this book does not live up to the rest of the books. After reading Amanda's story, one wild night, I was really excited to read Amelia's story. One wild night I was able to read in one day, On a wicked dawn took me nearly a week of persiverence. The story is slow and the characters are not written as well as in Stephanie Laurens other books. I'll still look foward to her next book but I would suggest that you skip this one.

Summary: Isn't what I expected
Review: After reading the other Cynster books, I anxiously awaited the publication of this. It just didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe as a short-story this would have been all right, but so much is fluff (just adding pages) that one gets the feeling that the author is just trying to write a novel. Okay, we know that they both love each other...we know that he's no longer in need of her dowry...just tell her already. I usually can read one of her books in a day or so (after all, I do work and have a family), but this book took over a week and I had to force myself to finish it.

If you're looking for a fast-paced romance...look elsewhere.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Boring...hard to stick with it.
Review: I rarely write reviews and usually really enjoy Lauren's work; however, I find it difficult to stay with this one. I am always thinking of the next book I want to read and skim more than I actually read. It's hard to explain it's just that the plot isn't there. It's too many thoughts on both Amelia and Luc's part. I guess I just really like sparks between the characters and there isn't any between them. Someone else wrote that it should be the end of the Cynsters...I agree! :-(
