Rating: Summary: Devil's Bride Review: This was the first book I read by Stephanie Laurens. It was absolutly great. The story line was great and the love scenes where just wonderful.I rate this book as high as KIngdon of dreams by Judith McNaught. It's a keeper because you can readit over and over and still not get tired of it. One of the beat on my list
Rating: Summary: something really bugs me about this book.... Review: In Devil's Bride, the first book in the series Devil reveals that Scandal is in fact an Illegitimate child- the outcome of an affair Sebastian had with a woman in Scotland, 5 years into his marriage with Helena- I just couldn't let that nasty fact out of my head... It made it *really* hard for me to like Sebastian. after all- we gals read romance books for the 'togeher happily ever after' part, right? other then that- no complaints- good book!
Rating: Summary: Mistake Review: I usually love any type of book but found this one to be very difficult to follow and not at all interesting. Maybe other books by this author are better.
Rating: Summary: Stephanie Laurens' Promise Delivers Review: Sebastion and Helena clearly identify to any familar with the Bar Cynster siblings. Certain traits can be and are inherited as Helena is introduced as a young lady who wishes to make her own decisions, a young lady not above scheeming to get her way. Sebastian, graced with a title, fortune and good looks, is the "irresistable force" who decides to make Helena his own. The tale is told in a spirited sense of adventure, with some intregue, and provides an entertaining read. Stepanie Laurens delivers and presents to one and all a delightful story, as well as introducing the parents of the Cynster siblings.
Rating: Summary: Promise to Be Enthralled Review: This is the 8th novel of the Cynster series and should have been the first. Up until now The Devil (Sylvester) had been my favorite sexy, powerful, male until I met his father! Well, okay, it may still be a toss-up but Sebastian and Helena have a powerful chemistry and attraction! Ms. Laurens writes a breathtaking love story. One can feel and see, as though they are a 'fly on the wall' because she makes us see them so clearly! Sebastian raising his eyebrow; the eye contact between Helena and Sebastian, all of it! Just the type of love story to curl up in front of the fireplace and savor. If this is your FIRST Cynster novel, I guarantee you will be HOOKED to read the rest!
Rating: Summary: Believable Review: I eagerly awaited this book because I have loved the series. The story of Sebastian and Helena as young lovers was a typical Laurens story, paced well, interesting people, good story, passionate and powerful attraction and sex. It stands alone quite well. However, I didn't believe that these people -- Sebastian and Helena turned into the people described in Devil's Bride and the rest of the series. Young, beautiful, intelligent, captivating, so thoroughly loved by a powerful man, Helena would have still been beautiful and desirable as a woman in her late 50's, not the dowager described. The incredibly self-possessed, powerful Sebastian who kept a sprig of mistletoe under glass for seven years would never have fathered an illegitimate child with a lonely wife in Scotland in the first years of his marriage, if ever.
Rating: Summary: Write By Numbers Review: I just did not like this book. I thought the characters were flat and uninteresting and the writing formulaic and uninspiring. This really wasn't worthy of Stephanie Laurens and author whom I have always enjoyed. It isn't that the novel was bad -- which is why I suppose it got such high marks from other people; it's just that it was way too much like her previous books in the series. She seems bored with this series and should probably find something new and fresh to write about.
Rating: Summary: Really 4 7/8 but... Review: 4 7/8 because I wasn't absolutely thrilled about one small part at the end, and it could be that I didn't want to like the book as much as I do. This is a prequel, so if you have read any of the Cynster books you have a large amount of information about the characters, and Sebastian has a big fault (to me). The plot is solid, the characters stay consistent in their behavior without being melodramatic, and the physical romance is wonderful. One of my favorite parts of the book is how Sebastian's maintains his bearings while falling in love. At times he treats Helena in a proprietary manner but then responds to her in a way that is almost deferential, without the book seeming "jumpy". I love how Ms Lauren's does that. Helena is not one of the "I'll never marry..deep sigh" heroines that can often get on one's nerves. She knows the requirements of her station and behaves accordingly while reaching for her own goals, all without becoming a martyr-you know the type. Secondary characters are supportive but expect no sequel out of them. The book is cleaver, witty, well written and ended too fast. And for the record, most of my friends have no problem with Sebastian, and see no faults.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I am a huge fan of Ms. Laurens. She is my all time favorite romance writer. I especially love her Cynster series and have read all the installments. The Promise In A Kiss is wonderful! I finished this book in two nights. It's not one of my favorite Cynster books but I was definately hooked once I began reading. I definately recommend this book to any romance fan!!
Rating: Summary: You're in a for a good time with THE PROMISE IN A KISS. Review: If you're willing to suspend disbelief and just go with the flow, this is a fun book. The characters are really likeable, the attraction between the hero and heroine is strong; the plot is the weak point, but who has time to quibble? My favorite Cynster so far and reason to reread all the others.
