Rating: Summary: I am Captured!! Review: I just began my journey through african american litureture and I can tell you that most of the books people have told me are the "bomb" have turned out to be duds next to this book. Since I'm just getting into reading works by black authors I didn't know what type of book I liked but now not only have I found my favorite type of book but I've found my favorite author. This book has everything you'd need to keep your interest. Perfect beginning, twists that catch you off gaurd and make you dizzy, and a story that comes full circle and make perfect sense from beginning to end. It's also a storyline that I'm sure many of us, male or female, can identify with. This is a book I'd recommend to anyone who is into this type of reading, even my mother!
Rating: Summary: An excellent tale! You will be Addicted to Zane Review: "Addicted" was one of the first books that I read from Zane. From the moment that I started the first chapter she had me addicted until the very end. In "Addicted" Zoe is a successful African-American business woman who despite a thriving career and a wonderful family is addicted to SEX. In a period of time she becomes involved with several partners that take her on a journey that leads to dangerous, yet intriguing fullfillment. In an attempt to overcome her addiction, she turns to Dr. Marcella Spencer and begins the journey that leads to many revelations and new discoveries. Just as Zoe begins to discover the source of her "addiction" a stunning chain of events threatens all that she has--including her life. Zane is truly a talent that is shining in the literary world. She does a fine job of bringing an intriguing yet powerful message in Addicted and she is truly a writer to watch. She made a fan out of me with this novel and I am eagerly anticipating this summer's "The Heat Seekers". Keep doing your thing Zane, your star is shining. ;)
Rating: Summary: STEPHANIE T. Review: THIS BOOK WAS HOT.....I REALLY ENJOYED IT....I WAS ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE HEAT SEEKERS TO COME OUT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ZANE. YOU ARE UNDOUBTLY ONE OF THE BEST.
Rating: Summary: Extremely boring and unrealstic Review: This book really deserves a rating of no star. I read this book as a result of a book club suggestion and checked out the comments on-line. It's very obviously I did not read the same book. To begin with it there is no plot or substance. It's very predictable. One reader said that the sex scenes were hot. I am still waiting. First, we have perfect Zoe, with flawless hair and skin. She's a goddess from Mt. Olympic. Sorry, no one is that perfect. This author didn't do any research because the title is very misleading. Having illicit affairs and masturbating doesn't classify you as being an addict. The book starts out with her being at the Doctor's office. Another flawless person. Then their is the recounting of her life, in detail, which went on chapter after chapter. This could had been condensed into two chapters. Then the author decided that she needed to add a murder, the main character walking into traffic, a hypnotic session. I just couldn't believe it. Why would she put all of this in this book. Then in the last chapter, which she had no choice, she crammed her ending. This book is a notch above a Harlequin romance novel. I would not recommend this book and I wasted my money. If you want to read this book you can have mine.
Rating: Summary: Reader from SC, I couldn't have said it better myself... Review: Zane doesn't seem to understand the difference between funny and corny, sexy and nasty, romantic and cheesy, ghetto and ignorant, and real and BS... that's pretty much what I got from this waste of time. Was it a page turner... yes! But that's only because I was reading and reading, trying to find out where the 4 1/2 star rating came from. Here are just a few of the problems I had with this book: -It's poorly written with shallow characterization, so I found myself not caring much about what happened to the characters in the book (her Daddy and Brina for instance) or what Soap Opera - like stunts were pulled.
-Everything progresses way too fast and there are too many coincidences that slide everything along too smoothly.
-The slang (boo, nucca) was forced and overdone... black people don't talk like that all the time. Even the regular dialogue was really unrealistic. Try imagining yourself saying half the things said in this book and you'll probably crack up laughing at how cheesy it is or be too embarrassed to do it.
-The "sex" wasn't steamy or intimate, not even when it was trying to be (Don't let the cover fool you)... it was just nasty like some cheap porno flick (Nacho Cheese and a "feeding schedule?").. give me a break. Everytime I think of this book, the movie "Pearl Harbor" comes to mind... romantic cheese! There are much better romance books out there that are well-written with African-American's in mind... Eric Jerome Dickey's books come to mind. Whatever you do, please don't waste your time and money on this.
Rating: Summary: It was okay........................... Review: I heard all the hype about this book and decided to order it. The only thing that caught my eye were the sex scenes! They had me running to get water I was so HOT, but the story overall was not as good as I thought it would be. Like someone else mentioned the writing is for someone in their teens not really for adults. I did not like the way this book ended at all and when I found out why she was addicted to sex I was like what meaning I thought it was something deeper. Overall this book gets a 4 more like a 3.9.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!... EXCELLENT!...EXCELLENT!... Review: Whomever it was from S.C who did not like this book, then they are reading the wrong book. This book made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster ride. It started out slowly developing the characters, then the doctor's office scene was the apex of the ride, then it slowed down for the cabin, and then the final part took us back up one more mountain. As for describing the characters, if you were paying attention once, then that was all you needed. As far as the cliches, "Always has, always will" was THEIR secret code for each other (remember the balloons?). This book is the best one I have read this year, and it is recommended on Black Planet's book of the month of April. Keep up the good work and hopefully you will have a sequel and followup to this story.
Rating: Summary: Vulgar, unrealistic and extremely cliche Review: I reluctantly read Addicted as a pick for my book club. I had heard of it before but would have never chosen to read it on my own - now I realize why. To say that it started off slow would be an understatement, and the inconsistencies throught the book were painfully obvious. The time span was not clear to me as the characters were using slang that we use today in an age where kids danced to Cheryl Lynn. I think the characterization was vague. The only physical characteristic I recall about Zoe was her caramel colored hair and flawless skin. I'm sorry, but I like my characters to be REAL and noone in real life is flawless. I feel Zane didn't research her subject at all. Having three partners outside your marriage doesn't make you an addict. Masturbating doesn't make you an addict. And how much of a coincedence was it that all three people she deal with were lunatics? And how convenient was it for Zoe to suddenly become the victim when all three lovers were after her? Don't even get me started on the phrases and metaphors that she used to death like "anorexic beanpole" and "waste of oxygen," and let us not forget "boo." And I swear if I hear this one more time, "I love you and this is forever. Always has been! Always will be!" Whatever happened to show and not tell? When did vague and typical writing become all the rage? Why is this less than mediocre writer being compared to Terry McMillan? I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Hell, I'll give you mine for free! There is a reason Zane was originally a self-published author and if not for the absence of black erotica on the market, she would still be that way.
Rating: Summary: GOOD! Review: This is the first book that I have read by Zane, and I must say that it is good. PLEASE read it! The book has a turn in the end that is very unexpected. If you like suspense, you'll love this!!
Rating: Summary: Addicted Review: This was a good book it had a slow take off but it was well worth the wait. In the real world we have people that are addicted to any and everything. I think if Zoe and Jason would have been up front with each other than they wouldn't have had so many problems.
