Rating: Summary: Not ADDICTED to Zane Review: The only reason why I finished this book was because I have a creed to finish all books that I start. This book had to be in the top three worst books that I've read in all my life. I skimmed through some pages just to finish. The characters were severely underdeveloped and the story line was despairingly shallow. The concept would have worked with a different flavor but Zane failed miserably. If erotica is going to be the dominant thread throughout a piece, then it should be presented with taste and proper form. Two thumbs down on this one.
Rating: Summary: Incredible book. Loved it. Review: After reading the book, I realized that bad reviews ..WAY OFF!!! I found the book to be interesting, exciting, and humourous at times. It defintely had its erotic appeal. It also had a gripping revelation and ending. I liked this book very much. If you are weak in mind and heart, then this book isn't for you to read. If you don't like erotic and somewhat violent material, then I wouldn't recommend it. But, if you like a little excitement in your reading to remind you that you're not reading a text book, then I strongly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: You will be ADDICTED to this book!! Review: This was an interesting book. It will keep you going and wanting to know what is the next step. If you like DRAMA, and Excitement you should be reading this book. I could not put this book down. I had to know what was next. Believe me.....you will be addicted.
Rating: Summary: Why I couln't put it down! Review: This book is sensational! A friend of mine was reading this book and she was telling me a little bit about it. I decided to ask her to let me read just a little. When she gave me the book I didn't want to give it back! I went out and bought the book that same day. When I took it home I couldn't put it down. I just had to know what happened next! I would try to figure out what would happen next but Zoe the main character of the book always managed to suprise me! Me being black woman, I didn't think the things that she was doing would even run across a black woman's mind! I recommend this book to anyone who is in touch with their sexual side!!
Rating: Summary: 1 Star is being generous! Review: This book is not recommended. Read the reviews before you buy the book. A 1 star is being generous. Where was the addiction? Erotica? Zoe was an adulteress and the so called erotic descriptions was something out of a porn magazine. Leaves nothing to the imagination. Raw!! Her husband not wanting oral sex --- get real. What man would turn that down? ... Don't waste your money. I'm ashamed to give the book away.
Rating: Summary: Would not recommend this book!!! Review: I agree whole heartedly with reviewer kay-mickey. I bought the book after a few people said they couldn't put Addicted down and the book was off the hook. I didn't know these women but I need to be more careful of who I take recommendations from! If your looking for a book for your bookclub - Look away! Addicted - Addicted to what! The book didn't explained her sexual escapades as an addiction, she was just a ....you get the point. The doctors seemed to have gotten their degrees from a flea market. The book starts off with Zoe going to a psychiatrist for her sexual addiction. The female doctor explained that "sexual addiction" wasn't her area of expertise, it didn't make sense that if Zoe really wanted help why would she have stayed with this particular doctor. And the doctor who hypnotized Zoe. What a joke! A pocket watch swinging back and forth to hypnotize Zoe. Get real! Come on Zane you could have been a little more creative than the pocket watch method of hypnosis. The characters certainly could have been more developed . Most of the story was just plain hard to believe. A black version of Fatal Attraction towards the end. The men Zoe was sleeping with were "nice guys" then all of sudden because she didn't want to see them anymore they became ax murderers. Nothing about their character lead you to believe the drastic change in personality. I think the author was just pulling at straws trying to make the book exciting and keep the reader interested. If you like drama and no substance then read this book. I have better things to do with my time. More research was definitely need. I am going to give Zane's latest book Heat Seekers a chance. Wish me luck!
Rating: Summary: An utter disappointment Review: Read the review by "kay-mickey" My sentiments EXACTLY. I, too, will now question all recommendations offered by the friend who insisted that I read this book.
Rating: Summary: I agree...Amazon needs a "Zero" Star Rating Review: After I read some of the reviews, I thought I would not need to write my own. But my piece/peace must be spoken. This book was horrible. I grew up in Atlanta and I figured out that I am about the same age as Zoe. The slang spoken by Zoe was not the slang of Atlanta pre-teen/teenagers of that time. Zane needed a timeline editor (or a better one) prior to releasing the final draft of this book. The story did not flow. The conversations of the characters as teens also were not thought about or researched. Some of the things they said were too old for the characters. Zane not only overused cliched phrases, she even used one right after another. I also quickly tired of the characters saying the same thing over and over again. Zoe's doctors were stereotypical and used stereotypical, cliched, and unreal methods that could have been made more authentic with simple internet research by the author. Writers have learned the mantra "Show, don't tell." Although there are times when telling is better than showing, Zane rarely showed anything we were asked to believe. We are supposed to believe Zoe is a sex-addict because she says so; I saw her acting out because her sex life was depressed, not because she was an addict. We are supposed to believe Zoe loved Jason because she says so, but we are rarely shown her love for him. The reader is supposed to accept so much just because Zane says it is so. For example Zoe says that her secretary had been suspicious of her extramarital activities for a long time. But how does Zoe know that? Why are the readers supposed to believe that? Nowhere does the secretary do or say anything that would suggest that. Many of the events that occurred in this book were implausible. I don't mind the implausible or fantastical, as long as it is well written. Good writing leads the reader into the implausible ; bad writing, as in this book, makes the reader doubt everything and not even want to believe anything. Another example: Zane expects the reader to believe that in the late '80s/early '90s a recent high school graduate who just had a baby could successfully start a business on the Internet. The internet was not very accessible to the Black community at that time, and it certainly isn't likely that a black girl who isn't in college would be able to start and build an online business then (we generally didn't have internet access in our homes when the internet first became available). Had the writing throughout the book been better, I might not have questioned this. Instead, I doubted this and everything she wrote. And a word about erotica/sensuality: the graphic language Zoe used does not make "Addicted" erotica. A scene can be erotic without in-your-face language. My book club selected this book on the recommendation of others who liked the book. We are now questioning the references.
Rating: Summary: Could Not Put It Down, But A Little Disappointed Review: True to its billing, I could not put ADDICTED down. The characters proved more or less believable, if a little superficial, but by the end I had the sense that Zane was writing for television or the movies. I found it hard to believe that one upper middle class woman's circle of aquaintances could perpetrate so much deadly violence. Also, one needless event came from the movie FATAL ATTRACTION. An editor should have insisted on cutting it. Anyway, I'm going to give SEX CHRONICLES a chance.
Rating: Summary: Addicted Review: A masterful combination of suspense, romance and erotica all rolled into one book - incredible!By most people's standards, Zoe Reynard "has it going on." She is a successful entrepreneur, with a loving husband and two wonderful children. So what's her issue? Zoe has one small problem...she has an addiction. Most shocking are the discovery of and root causes for her addiction. Through her characters, Zane does an excellent job demonstrating how the destructive behaviors associated with addiction affect not only the addicted but those around the person as well - particularly loved ones. The message is clear...in order to overcome an addiction, you must first recognize you have a problem, seek professional help as necessary and have a loving support base for regular doses of encouragement to overcome your addiction (whatever the addiction might be). An excellent and thought provoking read!
