Summary: Addicted, need I say more....
Review: I was addicted to "Addicted" from the very first page. This books sizzles with delight and mystery from beginning to end. I would recommend this book to everyone!! I love to read and I can honestly say that out of all the books I have ever read this one has got to be the best one by far!!!! Once you start reading you too will be addicted. Zane's writing also shows that there are still some "GOOD" black brothers out here in the world that have your back no matter what....and for Zoe nothing but love for her, she did her "dirt" but was women enough to get help and to tell her husband.

Summary: FUN TO READ, BUT NOT TO BE BELIEVED!
Review: The majority of the customer reviews on this website were praising this book and this got me excited about reading it. I read the few negative reviews and I thought those people were being intellectual snobs. After all, this is fiction, right? Above all else, we want to be entertained, right? Not neccessarily.

Now that I have read this book myself, I admit that I agree with reviewers who gave it three stars or less. They made some valid points and I'd like to add to them.

Addicted is the story of Zoe Reynard, a sexually addicted woman who cheats on her husband with three different lovers. Zoe is supposed to be this wealthy successful sister, but her behavior is worse than a crackhead prostitute looking for another hit. Her sexual antics behind her husband's back are so vile and disgusting (for a married woman), I had no sympathy for her whatsoever. I can't ever remember hating a fictional character this much. With each turn of the page, I was hoping she would get pushed out of a plane or run over by a dump truck. Of course, later on, we find out some reasons why she is so deceitful and whorish, but by then, it's too late! It would have worked better if the author had opened up the book showing us the tragic incidents that lead to this woman becoming a sex addict instead of saving it for later. The early stages of her sexual development (that we read about in the beginning) are normal things we all go through and they don't add up to sexual addiction.

My second biggest criticism is believability. I found this novel harder to believe than anything I have ever read in my life. Very little of it would happen this way in real life. It was an insult to my intelligence. I know it's fiction, but even in fiction, characters have to act in ways that are BELIEVABLE. The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are more believable than this story. Towards the end, in particular, Addicted stretches our ability to believe to the limit. It gets more and more absurd in the second half of the book. The climax of the story is a good example of this. The "villian" and our "heroine" engage in an extremely long conversation that is melodramatic and has more predictable cliches than a Batman cartoon. Author Zane also makes the mistake of mixing in some murder and Stephen King style horror and it doesn't fit well in this story.

And speaking of Zane, her writing style leaves a little to be desired at times. Some claim this book to be "erotica" but instead of being sexy, it comes across like pornographic Amos 'N Andy routine or something a naughty third grader wrote on the bathroom wall. I love sex like everyone else and I am not a prude, but there's got to be better ways of describing a sex act other than the basic four letter word stuff we hear on the Def Comedy Jam. Eric Jerome Dickey, for example, writes vivid and clever sex scenes. He is able to get erotic and even raunchy yet seems to find creative ways of doing so.

Despite these major flaws, I must say that the book IS entertaining and holds a reader's interest. For entertainment value alone, I give it the three stars. Am I recommending that people read this one? It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something intellectually stimulating or if you focus a lot on the literary merits of what you read, go find a James Baldwin or Toni Morrison novel. If you want a fun, occasionally brainless page turner that is interesting in a Jerry Springer kind of way, then you will enjoy Addicted.

Summary: Changed lives
Review: I wondered into the Africian American section of the local Borders when this book caught my eye. Glad I purchased it. I throughly enjoyed the book "Addicted" by Zane. I found it provocative, stimulating and educational. Zoe's opening scene in this book characterized the fears of many Africian American who need, but won't seek counseling.

As her story unfolds, her detailed description of her childhood helped to make the end of the story even more profound. Excellent reading. I did find, however, the use of profanity by Zoe in her general conversation, rather offensive and over used. I found a hint of Christianity in the counselor which gave a glimmer of hope that Zoe's life would change.

This book could be used as a counseling tool for those suffering from sexual addiction. Thanks Zane for your contribution. At least one more life will be changed because of your writing.

Summary: Addicted to bad writing
Review: ... Im an avid reader and there is no way I could ever say that this was even a good book. It was bad. ...
The dialogue in the book is juvenile, even after the characters become adults. The time lines in the book are totally off. Teens in the 80's werent saying "my bad." The story is unbelievable, even though I know its fiction. Zane, give us a break. Zanes use of vulgar terms does not make a scene erotic. She should learn that lesson from good writers like Eric Jerome Dickey and others. And if I read "boo" or "nucca" one more time, I thought I would puke. Zane could have had a good story, but she has to do a lot more homework and make use of an insightful editor.

Summary: What the devil?
Review: This is one of my favorite books. I can't not knock Trying to Sleep in the Bed you Made off the #1 spot just yet. But this is really good. I would put it in my top 5 books. I read it in less than a day. I went out and bought a new Zane book the next day. I would highly recommend this book.

Summary: Don't believe the hype!!!
Review: Don't believe the hype about Addicted. This book [stunk] big-time!!! I thoroughly agreed with Tulip -- the writing was awful, the storyline was unbelievable, and the book went on too long. Zane, do your research the next time. I found it hard to believe that a woman who used words such as "nucca", "bomb-diggity" and "get medieval on her ..." would also in the same breath refer to black people as "African-American". Come on, why would Zoe want to be politically correct when political corectness was not a part of who she was? And that psychiatrist? What professional lights up a cigarette in front of her patient, and agrees that her patient is a sex addict merely because the patient says she has 3 lovers? What medical school did she attend? This book was [junk], and I just know in my bones that Zane is capable of so much more. This book reminds me of books we read in the 9th grade where we have the nasty parts already mapped out so we can go straight to them and show our friends.

Zane -- do better

Summary: Addicted 2 Addicted!
Review: Zoe and Jason's relationship blossomed from childhood conflicts into an undying adulthood love. This book revealed the totality of Zoe's sexual addiction--which was real. I think the author literary stepped out and explored this less accepting to society female addiction.

That's right... it's kewl for a dude, and perhaps not even considered an addiction--just a guy getting his groove on--married or not. Sad huh? Anyway, back to the book.

I think Zane did an excellent job writing this novel. I loved every page I turned. The sexual inadequacy of Zoe's husband Jason triggered and fueled Zoe's addiction and desires. Even though, there were underlying factors that urged her quest for complete sexual satisfaction. If you haven't read this book, I suggest you read and find out for yourself. LOL.

Addicted provided its reader with mystery, intrigue, suspense and proved to be a powerful thriller. I read "Shame On It All" and wasn't as fulfilled as I was after reading Addicted. Zane is proving to be a reckoned force in today's AA contemporary fiction.

I'd recommend this novel to anyone who wants a good solid read. Zane is an extremely talented writer. However, I still want to know... who is Zane?

Summary: Read This Book!
Review: I was hooked from the very first page; this book had a myriad of emotions running through me. I was angry, scared, shocked, and amused. The life of Zoe is a strange, but realistic one. A successful woman addicted to sex and the wonderful husband who can't please her in bed. So she seeks pleasure elsewhere and that is when the fun begins. This is the 1st Zane book I have ever read and believe me, it won't be the last. It was extremely well written and explicit. This is not a book to be missed. What are you doing? Why are you still reading this? You need to be putting it in your shopping cart.
