Summary: Zane is Zany
Review: I am so disappointed with this book. The first half is so well written and has great character development, but all of that gets lost somewhere and the book crumbles into an episode of Jerry Springer. I started out expecting an intelligent exploration of sexual addiction (although I don't think Zoe was addicted - she was just inexperienced and curious) and the struggles that accompany the addiction. Unfortunately, it turned into a sexual free-for-all with extra lovers thrown in at the end for no reason. It seems like the author was trying to write 2 books in one - a drama and a mystery and the midpoint of the book is where it switched. I could handle the gratuitous sex since it was central to the novel, but there was so much unnecessary violence. Zoe, the main character, didn't even stay in character. She vascillated from an adult, corporate Black woman to a childish "hoochie" (her word not mine) within a few pages and then sprung back again. This book was such a let down because it started out with so much potential.

Summary: ACTION, ACTION, and more ACTION
Review: I really enjoyed this book! It's an easy read! The last half of the book is all ACTION... When you think you know what's going to happen, you turn the page to find you have no ideal!

Summary: We liked it!
Review: Sexual addiction is something that most people laugh about and refer to as an excuse, but those who honestly struggle with an addiction such as this probably feel more shame then any alcoholic or drug user because sex is a part of being human. Zane does a good job of giving some insight into what it may be like to be a victim of this form of addiction.

Zoe is a woman who has everything. She has a husband who loves her, three beautiful children, she owns her own business, is the envy of her best friend and she also has a sexual addiction.
We are introduced to her in the room with her therapist where she lays out her whole life, searching for an understanding of how she became the way she is. Although in therapy, Zoe still finds herself battling with her needs as she takes on lovers other than her husband. Eventually all catches up with her and her secret has more of an affect on her life than even she could imagine.

The REAL bookclub discussed this book for three hours, picking it apart bit by bit. Some of the members felt that some of the interactions that Zoe had were unrealistic particularly those with her lovers. Also the drastic change toward the end was a bit overwhelming, but overall we enjoyed it. We would recommend this book to a limited audience. If vivid sex scenes and real language is not your thing then we suggest that you avoid it; Other wise Read on!

Summary: Too Deep!
Review: This book was deep. Addicted was recommended to me when I was picking up E.Lynn Harris's latest. I read the entire book in one day. I started in the morning did some chores and did not go to sleep until I was finished. Zane weaves a nice tale of how things that are out our control truly effect our lives. I am currently reading Sex Chronicles another Zane masterpiece. After reading Addicted, I am truly a Zane fan and I am quickly reading her work and anticipating her next.

Summary: Addicted? Not exactly...
Review: I opened "Addicted" with high expectations and closed it high-and-dry, so to speak. I must say, Zane is terrific at creating atmosphere, for example the way Zoe and Jason met, their childhood escapades, etc. But Zoe's childish 'nuccas' and other curses (in front of her passive, middle class Black parents? puh-leese, i would have caught a beat-down!) and tantrums simply turn into adult tirades (I hate you! I just hate you!) when things don't go her way. Yet she's supposed to be an independent, successful business woman? Zoe is neither believable, nor likable, nor dispicable--just annoying. It takes more than erotic scenes to make a book engaging. Less cursing and exclamation marks and more meaningful moments between characters would have made this book more intense and powerful. This fiction squandered an opportunity to address --or even relate-- sexual addiction to real black women facing the issue. I recommend "The Coldest Winter Ever" by Sistah Souljah instead.

Summary: This Book is The Worst!
Review: This novel is utter trash! The plot was extremely flawed, the characters are shallow, and the ending was way too "Over The Top." It was very unrealistic and the author's language is elementary. However, it was indeed a page turner. I don't know if I couldn't put it down for want of the next plot twist or so I could hurry up and throw it in the wastebasket! One question: If the setting is 1980s til present day Atlanta, why do the slang and terminology feel so much like D.C.?

Summary: OH MY
Review: OH MY...when I closed this book..I looked at myself in the mirror and said..that is the exact reason that you DON'T cheat! I must say, this is one of the best books I have read in a long time! It took a while to get started but after page 90 or so, it was ON and popping..this is a must read...I am truly feeling it...made me step outside of me and am now reading "Shame On It All." Looks like I am truly going to have to start me a "Zane" collection.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I found this book very interesting. I read a lot and I never heard of Zane until my neighbor introduced her to me. I couldn't stop reading this book once I got into it. It was very well written. I read this book in a couple of days. After reading Addicted I got on the interent and looked up Zane to see if she had written anything else and lord and behold I discovered Heatseekers which was well written as well as Shame on it all which I am in the mist of reading now. Zane is an excellent author. As long as she keeps the material coming I will keep supporting her talent. You Go Gurl.
