Summary: poorly written, overblown and NOT hot
Review: First, let me start off by saying that I love well-written erotica....but this! This was a absolutely terrible book! The author has no command of dialogue, the characters were wooden and one-dimensional, the situations were unbelieveable, and to top it all off, the supposedly-so-hot sex scenes were overwhelmingly vulgar without being in the least arousing. Another reviewer said that they suspected that Zane was a man, and I wouldn't be surprised, since Zoe's sexuality seems so forced and porno-like -- not at all like the real sensuality of most women. What is more disturbing to me than that, however, is the dangerous misinformation given out by the "therapist" characters, who inform Zoe that yes, indeed, it was abnormal for her to masturbate and have sexual urges at "such a young age". I realize that what Zane may have been trying to convey is obsessiveness with sexuality, but any child psychologist can tell you that even babies have been observed touching and stimulating themselves, and that the urge to do so is a normal, natural part of development. What's going to happen if an uninformed parent reads this and then observes their little daughter masturbating? They will assume she's a budding "sex addict", take her off to a child psychologist, and give the poor kid a complex about sex and her own body for the rest of her life! In short, a bad book -- bad writing, bad plot development, bad characters, and bad information. Steer clear!

Summary: If you have NOTHING better to do...
Review: then you may enjoy this book. I, however, thought it was pretty poorly written. I actually finished the whole book, which is really quite amazing given the vocabulary alone. I cannot believe the great reviews this book has gotten here, which is why I decided to try this book in the first place. I was pretty excited to read it, and then very quickly disappointed. The best parts of the book, in my opinion, were the very mediocre sex scenes. I'm in no way looking for soft core porn here, but at least those parts were interesting.

If you're looking for a good book try something else...

Summary: Bow Down to Zane!!!
Review: Want to read a good book read Addicted! This is the best book I have ever read! I kept me going from beginning to end. Zoe may have fullfilled some of her sexual desires with 3 people other than her husband but one of them turns out to be a psyco! I think Zoe and Jason need a vacation after all ... they've gone through especially when 2 tragedies strike, but love always prevails and they are going to start their new journey through life. Overall this book deserves 10 stars!

Summary: Best Book I Have Ever Read
Review: Addicted is the best book I have EVER read. From the beginning to the end, it will keep your guessing, laughing, and wanting to read more. I read book, after book, and after reading ADDICTED, just any old book won't do. I get bored. Addicted is not at all predictable. Zane has a way with words that is like no other author. One of the best things about the book is that it is a combination; it has sex, romance, mistery, sadness, happiness. IT IS ALL THAT! I tell anybody that likes to read, if you never read another book, you have to read ADDICTED!!!!

Summary: A must, must, hella must read!!
Review: First off, this book was much more than I expected. I was told it was explicit, but to me, it was just real. On the money real. Not too indecent, at least for me. And it had it's share of everything. Love, lust, drama, suspense, romance. Short of little green men walking the earth, everything you asked for is in this book. Read it...READ IT, JUST READ IT!!

Summary: Enjoyed It
Review: Our book club read this book for our selection in March. It was a good book hold your attention. Addiction is something many people have but want claim. Some of the things Zoe did was hard to believe but you know can really happen. One thing about this book you have to read it to the last page, it really keep you wondering who.

Summary: Nu-Soul Bodice Ripper
Review: i read this book as one of my book club's monthly selection, and was a wee-bit disappointed that we had even wasted our time reading what was to me nothing more than soft porn with a plot.
but after our discussion of the book, i had to admit there were a few redeeming qualities to this novel.

primarily, i applaud zane for reaching out to an audience of readers that have probably been waiting a long time for her work. i personally know a number of african-american women who religiously read romance novels (a.k.a. bodice rippers). however most of those novels feature characters with 'flaxen hair' and 'alabaster bosoms'. zane's novel 'addicted' is an updated version of the old-school bodice ripper that features dreadlocs and ebony-toned bosoms (and various other body parts) throughout its pages.

more importantly, i think addicted will stimulate some thought and discussions about the way people, and more specifically african-americans, view sex and the pereceived differences in the sexual appetites of men and women. though there were some crazy (and sometimes far-fetched) twists and turns throughout the book, one key theme was the liberation that comes from being able to truly examine and understand one's sexuality both individually and with an honest and caring partner.

Summary: More than just sex . . . there's a lesson to be learned here
Review: I recommended this book in my book club. Most people will read Zane and think her books are just so full of sex and lust, definitely not Christian fiction. Well, I am a Christian, and I figure if we're called to read this kind of popular fiction in our nation's finest colleges and universities, then surely there's a lesson to be learned.

I've read both Shame on it All by Zane, and Addicted was a great book. The main character is addicted to sex, and that's pretty much an understatement. She's basically sleeping with Satan throughout the book, violating her husband's trust, neglecting her kids and breaking promises she made to God.

Anytime a book teaches a lesson, I believe that it's an asset to literature. This book is laced with sexual connotations, but the morality card is played time and time again. In this book you will get glimpses of real life. It illustrates how problems encountered during childhood and through parenting can lead to more serious issues later on in life. But most importantly, this book shows you that it's important to find your way back to the mainstream in life. It's important to realize immorality for what it is, and when it comes to relationships, communication is the only key.

I applaude Zane for what she's done with ADDICTED. It encourages us to beat addictions, to find our way back to what's most important in life in order to survive: God, family and self! There's no love like self love. In fact, nothing else works in this character's life until she severs the ties she has with addiction. God didn't make sex a dirty and unspeakable thing. He made it for man and woman, in love and joined in Holy Matrimony. I think that the author takes this seriously even if she doesn't realize it herself. For in the end, a woman nearly loses everything she loves and holds dear because of her addiction to sex. Great read! If you're married, single or whatever, get this book . . . and take your children and yourselvs to church (smile).

Summary: Good, but could have been better!
Review: This book was a very fast read. I do have to say that I enjoyed reading it however. I have several friends who said that I simply "HAD" to read this book. I do think that the author "skimped" over one of Zoey's affairs (wonder why?)and that the book could have been written a little better (makes me think that Zane was rushed into writing this). I would recommend this book; however, I do not recommend this book to anyone who is close-minded or does not like to think/talk/hear about sex. If you are any of those things, then this book is NOT for you!

Summary: Plesantly Surprised
Review: I had seen the recommendation but I hadn't read her stuff before and I really didn't know what to expect. I head some ladies talking about one of her books at my hair salon so I decided to give it a try. I must say I was very pleased. I thought it woud be a collection of short erotic stories. I like that it was actually a novel. I plan to go back for more I really enjoyed her book. It was a fast read and I couldn't wait to find out what happen in the end. I highly recommend it. But it isn't for those who aren't open minded.
