Rating: Summary: Get lost with Circeen and Lisa Review: "The Highlander's Touch" is the first book by Ms. Moning that I have had the pleasure to read. I spent a lovely afternoon curled up on the couch with THT. The pages flew by as I lost myself in the worlds of Circenn and Lisa. Filled with wonderful dialogue, great descriptions and clever plot twists, THT is sure to please most time travel romance fans. Ms. Moning's other books are now on my must read list and I look forward to spending time with the heroes and heroines of those books.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Time Travel Romance by KMM!!!!! Review: Karen Marie Moning's third book is one of the best I've read in a very long time. I got the first of the series (Beyond The Highland Mist) as soon as it hit the shelves. I could not put it down! Karen Marie Moning is a superb writer, who knows how to weave grand tales of Scottish lore, along with the present day trials and tribulations one might encounter. Her characters are believable, and their situations realistic. Needless to say, after the "Mist" I was waiting on pins and needles for the second book. I picked up "To Tame A Highland Warrior" in the first week of release, and was not disappointed. Again, the characters jumped off of the pages, and I was drawn into the story, so much so, that I finished it in one day!! The wait for the third book was not as bad, because I had the first two to re-read. When the third one was released, I again, ran to the store to get it. This time I was so surprised, because, you see, I am from Cincinnati, OH! The places Karen mentions in this book are places I am familiar with, and it brought me a more personal view. I actually relived many of my own personal memories of Cincinnati, and it's landmarks as I read this story. My hats off to KMM, as she has indeed outdone herself yet again. I am waiting anxiously for Aug. and Book 4.
Rating: Summary: KMM has done it again! Review: I have become a fan of KMM's writing since her first book came out. Having patience while waiting for the next book is never easy, but I've never been let down! KMM has done it again! This is a fabulous romance novel! I couldn't put it down! Can August get here any quicker??
Rating: Summary: A welcome addition to Ms. Moning's line of books! Review: When I was looking through Amazon.com I stumbled on Ms. Moning's first book, I loved it!! I then bought the second, and then this as soon as it came out. I couldn't put it down. It really pulls you into the story to the point that you really care about the characters. I could not figure out how they were going to work the ending, but it was a very satisfying conclusion. Also, I was EXTREMELY happy to see a cover without people on it! The new design is perfect.
Rating: Summary: A hard book for me to review... Review: I have a lot of mixed feelings about _The Highlander's Touch_. On one hand, I really loved it. The descriptions were vivid, the characters were interesting, and the author's style was pleasent. But, I had a lot of problems with the plot devices that Karen Marie Moning used and in the end I found that I just wasn't very pulled into the book.Lisa Stone is a girl definitely down on her luck. Both of her parents were in a car accident. Her father was killed and her mother was crippled. Lisa went from an upper middle class rich girl to a stuggling young woman working two jobs over night. Her father never filed for life insurance and this totally left her and her mother in a rut. To make things worse, Lisa's mother contracted cervicle cancer and now the medicle bills are dragging them down. So, this is how Lisa came to be working in a museum when a new shipment of artifacts came in. There was an interesting flask from Scotland which Lisa innocently picked up not knowing it was cursed. She then traveled back in time to mideval Scotland. Circenn Brodie came out of his bath to find a woman standing in front of him dressed in, gasp!, jeans. He immediatly takes the cursed flask from her and wonders what he should do with Lisa. While he vowed to kill the bearer of the flask, he does not see how he can kill a woman. He takes her to his room where they start in on a battle of wits. Lisa refuses to listen to Circenn and he has to make up many lies about her to explain her arrival to his men. They ultimately end up bascially married, but the war of the time calls to Circenn leaving many things unresolved with Lisa. Now, _The Highlander's Touch_ sounded like it was going to be wonderful... there was mideval Scotland and timetravel. This was very promising seeing as how I'm a huge Outlander fan. But, I never really got to care for Circenn. He was a very passive male and let everyone around him do as they pleased with out ever really establishing some order. Lisa was a well developed character and she really saved the book for me. But, she adjusted to being yanked from her environment unrealistically fast. The begining was overly depressing, and the end was unbearably perfect. I cannot believe all of the things that Karen Marie Moning added at the end. If she had left them out, this would definitely have been a five star read for me. Everything rolled out too well, the ending was too happily ever after.... If you like the idea of time travel I'd highly recommend Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series or Jude Deveraux's _A Knight in Shining Armor_. I will be reading more of Ms. Moning's work, but I was really dissapointed with _The Highlander's Touch_.
Rating: Summary: This has to be my favourite.. Review: I loved the first to highlander books, but this one is my personal fav. It also returned the loveable, if somewhat incorrigible Adam. Cannot wait to read the next one due in August. Excellent reading!
Rating: Summary: Karen Marie Moning gives us another incredible paranormal! Review: This is the story of an immortal Scottish warrior who is entrusted with the care of a flask by the Tuatha de Danaan (the Fairies). Circenn Brodie puts a curse on it when it ends up out of his hands. The curse will bring whomever touches the flask directly to him. Adam Black, "the blackest elf" coerces an oath from him that he will kill the bearer of the flask. Lisa Stone is a hard working young woman, working two jobs for 5 years to support herself and her mother, who is dying of cancer. Lisa's night job is cleaning a museum and this is where she stumbles upon Circenn's cursed flask. Unsuspecting of the power behind, she touches the flask, captivated by its beauty. Suddenly, the earth shakes beneath her and she feels like she is falling...... Six years after cursing the flask , Circenn is taking a bath when in pops Lisa - flask in hand. He is sworn to kill whomever appears bearing the flask, but the oath given to Adam conflicts with one given to his mother, never to harm a woman. Lisa and Circenn are drawn to each other and he eventually decides she is innocent of any knowledge behind the powerful flask. In an attempt to protect her identity he introduces her to his knights and the Templar's in his group as Robert the Bruce's cousin. When the Bruce himself shows up he goes along with Circenn's lie the furthers it by announcing a betrothal between the two. Circenn has lived over 500 years and has seen many mortals that he cared for die which has left him bitter and unwilling to risk his heart. Centuries ago, to protect his heart from further losses, he set for himself a number of rules which he was very strict in upholding. He ends up breaking all these rules because of his love for Lisa. She is torn between wanting to stay with Circenn in 1314 and going to her dying mother's side in present day Cincinnati. All works out eventually and the book is a joy to read. Lisa has had a hard time having to suppress her dreams while working hard to care for an ailing parent, she is certainly a heroine that can be related to. Circenn Brodie truly embodies all you think a knight and hero should be. They are a wonderful compliment to each other.
Rating: Summary: Adam Black is back with a new agenda! Review: Ms. Moning has created another beautiful fairy tale in her Highlander series. Circenn, an immortal Scottish warrior, has placed a binding spell on a flask he is entrusted to keep safe for the Tuatha de Danaan. When the flask winds up lost, Circenn swears to Adam Black he will kill the man who returns with flask. The whereabouts of the flask must be kept a secret. Lisa, a 21st century woman, lets curiosity get the better of her while working as a cleaning lady in a museum. The flask has finally turned up 700 years later and Lisa wants a closer look. Circenn is torn between oaths when Lisa shows up in the 14th century with the flask. He has also sworn to his mother to never to kill a woman. Now Circenn is hard pressed to keep Lisa's arrival from Adam. Little does he know Adam already knows. Lisa's mother, who is crippled and dying from cancer, is Lisa's main concern and she must get back to her time to take care of her.She wants to go home and can't believe Circenn can't send her back. As the love between Circenn and Lisa grows, so does a special bond of unspoken words between them. Circenn is afraid to tell her he's immortal. He's also afraid of loving someone and watching them age and die. Karen Marie Moning has me believing in Fairy Tales again.
Rating: Summary: Magical! Review: I had seen previews for "The Highlanders' Touch" about 2 weeks before it came out and I knew then this would be a great book and I was not disappointed in the least. Circenn's metamorphosis emotionally was well written and thought provoking as was Lisa's. The fae elements in the book were very well written as were the time travel passages. All in all an absolutely wonderful and magnificent book. Kudos to Ms. Moning. A+++++++
