Summary: BoOOoOoOoOooring!!
Review: I am a fan of Catherine Coulter and I LOVED all the Bride series books, and Mad Jack. I was excited to see that there was another book with tie ins to the other books. Where I really liked the characters in the Brides books, Spencer and Helen were VERY underdeveloped. There was all this sex and weird discipline, and the plot itself was weak. The villians seemed to be just thrown in as after thoughts. The supporting characters barely supported and the main characters were, well, boring. I usually read Ms. Coulters books in a matter of a day or two. It took me well over a week to get through this one. I kept thinking maybe this will get better.. it has to get better... but it never did. I forced myself to finish it. It is definitely NOT a keeper!

Summary: The Courtship
Review: A wonderful read. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Catherine Coulter's characters are always well written. I have read most of her books. This one is one of my favorites. I have read it twice. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: boring even with all the sex...
Review: Wow - what inane characters! With Helen, or Helen of Troy, teasing the womanizing Lord Beechman early on, one understands that the author has designated Helen as the supposedly "spunky" gal who can handle a man early on. I had no real issue with the sex scenes. I like sex. But she went over the top re. the domination bit. It got really boring. Also, what the heck happened to Alexnadra and Douglas - are they middle aged already? Also, Lord Beechman was a bit of a bore being so fascinated with such a tease as Helen. Got old....

Summary: The Courtship
Review: A Regency romp with mystery and lots of sex! Mystery is well done, you won't guess who the bad guy really is. Helen Mayberry is a tall robust girl who decides that Spenser Heatherington, Lord Becham is just the guy to be her partner, in detective work, that is - he thinks she is ideal for a partner of another sort. Who is going to give in first? This story is linked to The Sherbrooke Bride and Mad Jack books by Catherine Coulter. I enjoyed this book and had not yet read the two previous books linked to it. It is a stand alone story. Marilyn, The Regency Lover's Cafe

Summary: An embarrassment to print
Review: I understand that historical accuracy in a romance novel may seem like an oxymoron, but could we please try for a little. I used to read Ms. Coulter's books with fascination until I went to college. Now I know better (and more). Her characters are trite and the rough sex is more disturbing than titillating. Also, her grasp of the English language is weak--a picture is "hung" and a man is "hanged." Helen Mayberry had enormous potential as a character that she ceased to realize by the middle of the book. The suspenseful treasure hunt degenerated into nonsense by the end and was randomly complicated by the introduction of the former husband. Why must every woman in her novels receive a beating? I highly recommend spending money on worthier authors, such as Lisa Kleypas, Maggie Osborne, and Pamela Morsi.

Summary: Fun, interesting read
Review: I think the biggest advertisement about this one is that we have meet the characters before. Spenser Heatherington is from "The Sherbrooke Bride" and Helen Mayberry is from the hit novel "Mad Jack."

Spenser becomes aware of Helen at the Sherbrooke's home. He is dazzled by her beauty and size and decides later to seek her out. Unbeknownst to him she has been plotting to meet him as well, but not for the same reason. Spenser's desire is to get her in bed by afternoon. Helen's desire is to make him a partner in her treasure hunt for King Edward's Lamp. Although flattered by his attention, she has her reasons for wanting to keep it strictly platonic.

I was really looking forward to another Coulter masterpiece. I was impressed with the characters and the treasure hunting mystery; having a chance to meet up with the Sherbrookes once again was a treat. The only thing I was disappointed in was the amount of story time spent on Spenser and Helen's sexual antics. I understand the premise of the story is discipline, which is what Spenser over heard Helen and Lady Sherbrooke discussing, but I felt sex and discipline with sex was over the top. Catherine Coulter is too talented a romance writer to depend on erotic love scenes to make her book. Although my thoughts lean toward too much sex in the storyline, I did enjoy the adventure of King Edward's Lamp and all those involved in it. Ms. Coulter's characters are colorful and fun and the atmosphere a historical work of art.

Summary: Opps! Where is her beloved voice....
Review: As a fan of Ms Coulter's historical I have but one question to ask, where did here wonderful historical voice go? This was a very disappointing book from an author who is what Classic Romance is all about. The discipline element was not only absurd but where was the romance? I am all for an author challenging the envelop to provide a new element in romance but this was so over the top I did wonder if it was done by a ghost writer: one who doesn't have a clue about Ms Coulter's wonderful historical voice. With so many choices out there vying for my "romance book buying" dollar, I hope this is not a new trend from a beloved author. Hardly a comfort read like the Sherbrooke Bride series, maybe it it time for Ms Coutler to step away from the regency period and return to the Viking/medieval era of her earlier books, which are keeper shelf material. I'll pass on this one, and use it as a trade at my local UBS. Maybe it is unfair to expect a perfect read each time but this was hardly what one would expect from this Best Selling author. Opps!

Summary: Catherine, What happen!
Review: What a terrible and boring book. I can't believe Catherine Coulter wrote this. She must have been in a big hurry to meet a deadline. We got a book here were every character is eccentric. We have pages wasted on characters that go nowhere, their story line is just dropped. We have character such Douglas and Alex Sherbrooke returning and acting odder then ever. And of course Catherine's back on the magical treasure hunt. I already knew how the story was going to end. All her books are running the same story, different treasure. I don't know what happen, but I use to love discovering a new Catherine Coulter book and spending all my free time devouring it. I won't be in a hurry next time to waste my time or money. I was very disappointed. If you want to read a good book, Look elsewhere.

Summary: a good read
Review: I have enjoyed many of Catherine Coulter's books, but this was one of my favourites. I think that this is because I feel kudos should be given to her because she manages to write a good romance in which the two main characters don't hate each other (one of the main requirements for your generic romance novel) and have other barriers in their way.

I thought the resolution of the mystery at the end was a bit on the disappointing side, so don't expect anyhitng amazing in that area.

Overall though, it is a good and entertaining read, I didn't even think that the amount of sex was a problem. I usually just skim those parts anyway, there is very little that can be done that is new in that area anyway. I didn't find that they detract from the actual story though. I recommend this for an enjoyable romance and an interesting plot of adventure.

Summary: Disappointing is the only word that fits
Review: I've read and liked Catherine Coulter's novels in the past, so when I saw this at the library, I picked it up eagerly. Wow, was I disappointed! The sex was ridiculous to the point of annoying, and the whole attitude of the characters was very..."modern." I don't think this should be categorized as an historical novel, and certainly not as a romance. The only reason I finished the book was the lamp plotline, and that was also a letdown. The dialogue seemed unlikely, the narrative careless. While I don't expect or even want romances to always be realistic, this was just not enjoyable me as a regency lover and a writer.
