Summary: Except for the ninny, a very good book.
Review: I'm a big fan of Stephanie Laurens and her Bar Cynster series of regency romances, but this is a difficult book for me to review. On the one hand, this book has my favorite hero of the series, Demon, and it has some of the best love scenes. The relationship between Demon and Flick constantly sizzles and when it bursts into flame - watch out! I particularly liked the time they spent in London during the Season where Demon is simultaneously trying to court her and protect her reputation from being seen with him. On the other hand, the heroine can be one of the most annoying ninnies you'll ever find. She's one of those plucky young ladies who repeatedly proves her independence by deliberately rushing headlong into situations that even a three-year old could tell were dangerous. After she has been saved by Demon from certain rape after being warned against chasing the bad guys all by herself, she actually says, "There's nothing you can say or do that will convince me I don't have as much right as you to go hying after villains." Oh? How about the fact that you are too stupid to breathe? It's a mystery to me why romance novelists can't write about heroines who need rescuing because their in peril through no fault of their own. If you can ignore this silliness, you will otherwise find it a very pleasant read.

Summary: I couldn't put this book down!
Review: I've never read any of Stephanie Laurens books before, but now I'd like to read everything that she has written, especially the ones on the Bar Cynsters. There was romance, intrigue and elements of danger both from the syndicate and from Demon himself and of course--undying love. I'm looking forward to reading the stories about the rest of the family.

Summary: excellent characterizations in this historical romance
Review: In 1820, Harry Demon Cynster vows to not fall as his relatives Devil (see DEVIL,S BRIDE), Vane (see A RAKE'S VOW) and Scandal (see SCANDAL'S BRIDE) have and take women into his heart. He wonders who will be the fourth member of the Bar Cynster group of six male cousins trapped in the arms of a loving woman? However, Demon believes no lady will ever gain his love. Still, he flees London to the "unfettered" freedom of his Newmarket, Suffolk estate where no female plotters exist.

His hope for escape immediately splatters when he recognizes a new male employee can only be a female in disguise. Demon realizes that the newly hired Flick is actually Felicity, ward of his neighbor General Sir Gordon Caxton. She explains that she is incognito because she cares for the General. Her disguise is to help expedite Gordon's irresponsible son from a race-fixing racket. Unable to resist her lure, Demon agrees to help Felicity. Circumstances force them to spend a night together. The honorable Demon offers marriage with passion and no love. Felicity wonders if that is enough.

The formulas of the Cynster books are simply adaptations of one of the prime directives of the Regency romance sub-genre: A rake falls in love with an exceptional woman. Logic figures that by book four of a series that in essence repeats the same theme, the novel would be flat. Instead, quite the opposite is true as A ROGUE'S PROPOSAL is the typical exciting, non-stop action enjoyable work that fans expect from Stephanie Laurens. The story line provides insight into 1820's horse racing with an emphasis on the fixers rigging the events. Demon is a great character, but it is Felicity who steals more than just his heart. She attains the hearts and souls of the audience. Readers will demand early release of Gabriel and Lucifer's story.

Summary: A Rougue's Proposal
Review: Like Lauren's other books this is worth reading. All her male characters are so sexy. The female characters pale in comparison but just thinking of her sexy hunks makes the reading worth it.

Summary: Sweet beginning/Raunchy ending
Review: Maybe I am old fashioned but I like a little romance in my romance novels. The beginning was nice, interesting characters and a promise of a good mystery. But the character get so overwrought, it was a bit to much. And whew the sex scene were absolutely raunchy! I was afraid to take the book out of the house. The mystery part totally disappeared and the book fizzled to an end. If the writer pays a little more attention to the story line she might become a first rate romance writer.

Summary: She has done it again
Review: She just keeps them coming and they get better and better each time. This novel, the fourth in the Bar Cynster series is another keeper. Stephanie Laurens is so steamy in her writing. Her love scenes are so explicit and captivating. In this novel, I really enjoyed Flicks youth and innocence. I loved how she was so energetic. She was so young that she believed with all her heart in what she felt. She didn't have the skepticism that the women in the other novels had. She was certain about her relationship, and unyeilding in what she wanted from Demon. She was the initiator in the "mystery" solving in this novel going to Demon for help. He went for her and she just sort of took it as her due. She figured her dream was coming true. He was falling for her and she was going to bask in the glory of what he could teach her. She also was appreciative of his help. I really enjoyed reading this novel. I think that the story line was captivating. The mystery part of the novel kept my attention and wasn't so boring or drawn out that I would have found myself skimming through those parts (I have done that with other novels). I also felt that her love scenes weren't so long that it took the fun out of them, but that they were so descriptive and lush that you could hardly put it down. Some of them were a chapter long, but you hardly noticed because it was so well written and enthralling. This novel should definitely be a part of any romance readers collection.

Summary: Laurens charms with wit and strong chemistry
Review: Stephanie Laurens has won readers over with her top notch Bar Cynster series, and especially the Scandal Bride - with its scintillating mix of feisty heroines and firm heroes as well as oozing sensuality.

It remains an unwavering tradition in A Rogue's proposal where Felicity Parteger is a strong independent woman, summoned by her courage, decides to investigate a horse race-setting case jeopardizing her guardian's son Dillon. Demon / Harry is the eligible bachelor swooned off by her beauty and innocence but is hesistant about surrendering his love for her. The age gap between them poses a stumbling block to their romance too in the ostracizing community.

It is often easy for readers to be enticed by the sparkling chemistry between the two characters, forgetting about the plot in this book. However, it is an added bonus if the tension of the plot compliments with their chemistry. A Rogue Proposal fails in the side-plot where I find myself skipping pages of the mundane findings of the mystery - and the ending is just so predictable.

Stephanie Laurens, however,is a master at crafting wondrous chemistry between Felicity and Demon, where there is unexpected poignancy at Demon's sacrifice for Felicity. Despite his resilient and chivalrous self, there is fleeting gentleness in his heart reserved for Felicity, which charms the reader. Sensuality - you get bucketloads of it - this book is just hot.

From her earlier work in Rough around the edges to the Bar Cynster series, there is talent in Laurens waiting to be unearthed. Proving herself to be top-notch, Laurens' writing is the epitome of romance - rich, sensual and exhilarating.

A Rogue's Proposal may not be her best work just yet, but I must say it is a commendable piece of work given the dazzling chemistry. Worth reading.
