Rating: Summary: Steamy- 4 &1/2 stars Review: I didn't think I would be able to finish a book that 80% of the character and plot development happened in the bedroom, but Shannon McKenna successfully pulls it off. Erin and Connor have great chemistry (thankfully or this book would have been painful). The scenes outside the bedroom were fast paced, and there were several laugh out loud moments (involving Erin's mom and a car, among others). If you were disappointed with McKenna's other two full length novels, give this one a try. It's by far the best of the three.
Rating: Summary: Ignore the jerks that post bogus 'bad' reviews of this book, Review: I don't have a clue as to why someone...anyone, would slap a bogus review of someone's really great book? I can think of no-other reason except jealousy...I say, ignore the jerks...buy the book and then judge for yourself. This book quite simply, rocks!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely excellent! Review: I have been very impressed with Shannon's other work and was really looking forward to Standing in the Shadows. I expected it to be very well written with fascinating characters, lots of tension, great suspense, and hot sensuality. What I was not prepared for was just HOW good this book was. It was SO good, that I read it while waiting for my late plane to take off, and was so wrapped up in the story I couldn't have cared less. Anyone who has ever had to wait for a late plane will understand just what high praise that is.The hero is wounded in both body and soul and is on the verge of giving up when circumstances throw him back into the heroine's life. She is having difficulties with money and her career, and is also at the end of her rope. They have loved each other from afar for years which has created almost unbearable tension between them. When it is finally released, the results are truly explosive. Don't let the trade size discourage you from buying this book. In my opinion, it was well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Promising author Review: I have read both Standing in the Shadows and Behind Closed Doors. They are well written and everything but I wish there was a little more buildup to where her characters become involved. You get a chapter or two into her stories and pretty soon theres this marathon sex going on, over and over every chapter. Theres no innocence or buildup involved, just a short period at the beginning and then its like they've done it and redone it and there you have it. My advice would be keep your great characters, just carry them along a little more because it gives the reader more to look foward to.
Rating: Summary: A definite follow-up¿ Review: I highly recommend "Behind Closed Doors" before delving into this steamy caper. The characters of Connor/Erin are introduced to us and suggestions of Connor's feelings are given. Standing in the Shadows leaves no doubt Con is a lewd, crude hurt male with wounds aplenty. Erin did strike me as being a tad more subservient than Raine was in "BCDoors" but it's not like she was complaining =). What I have observed is that Ms. McKenna does not holdback on her villains were talking ewww Novak/Victor Lazlo all are slimy cretins. This erotic suspense novel does not disappoint the reader. If you dislike aggressive irate alpha males and the malleable woman who can't say NO to him this is not the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Liked it, but a little predictable? Review: I loved Behind Closed Doors, because it was so original. Steamy sex, alpha-male/malleable female who were three-dimensional, great suspense -- that book offered something most romantic suspense is missing. Standing in the Shadows had that too, but that's the problem. This book was almost a complete replica of BCD. Especially the sex scenes, where the insecure alpha male repeatedly uses aggressive sex to control the heroine. Throughout the book, I kept thinking, "been there, done that." Also, although I loved the graphic, steamy sex scenes, I agree with other readers that the amount of sex didn't make sense in the context of the book. I mean, Connor knows that an insane, evil, maniacal man is out to kill Erin, and could come around the corner any minute, and yet Connor and Erin engage in 72 hours straight of sex, in her house, which is the first place the killer would come looking for her? It made the book seem silly. Don't get me wrong, even with it's faults, this book is head above other stuff in this genre. And I look forward to reading stories featuring Connor's brothers, Davy and Sean. I just hope that the author will take a new approach with those books, perhaps making the men a little more sensitive, and the women a little more assertive.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Book! Surpases the "Romance Novel" Stigma... Review: I LOVED both Behind Closed Doors and Standing in the Shadows! I love this author. I cant wait to read her next book. I highly recomend these books. I found the characters so engaging, and contrary to some people's opinions, I enjoyed their bedroom romping (in all its longevity)... Anywho, Cant wait to find out about the other characters, hope we dont run out of them too soon. Best Wishes to All.
Rating: Summary: SEXY, FUNNY, - ANOTHER MCKENNA SUCCESS Review: I loved this book - I couldn't wait for it to come out and believe me, I wasn't disappointed. Connor McCloud is a sexy, sensative hero who makes you cry and laugh. Erin is a great match for him and they have loved each other forever. I could not put this book down - you have to read it. Even if you didn't read Behind Closed Doors, you can fall right into this. I can't wait for the next one - keep them coming Ms. McKenna.
Rating: Summary: A Real Disappointment Review: I read about this book in the back of another, very good story and foolishly got my hopes up. Don't bother - Connor is obsessed, nutz, and needs a sedative.
Rating: Summary: Fun reading! Review: I really liked this story and thought it was one of this writer's best to date!
