Summary: Much better than first one, but fizzles out
Review: I loved the chemistry between the couple and the way they meet, but once they are married all of the issues they should have thrashed out before they tied the knot come to the fore and threaten to pull them apart. As do the villains. Then the emphasis swings to them and we lose the sizzle and spark we had hoped for. It could have been a much better and more sexy book. The ending was also quite predicatable, and I am not impressed with Seger's sudden change of heart after all his brooding. Still a fast and fun read if you don't mind the obvious, creaking plot and a hero who has nothing to recommend him except being a rake.

Summary: An Affair Most Wicked
Review: I loved this book! It was fun, it was sexy, and it sizzled in all the right places. Julianne MacLean has turned the tight-laced Victorian era on its ear with her passionate tales of American Heiresses in London. Her first, To Marry the Duke, told how the first American heiress, Sophie, shook up London and the Duke whose heart she stole.
In the sequel,An Affair Most Wicked, MacLean gives us a fast-paced romp with two deliciously wild lovers, Clara and Seger, who despite their best intentions, cannot control their passions. Hold onto your sheets and enjoy the ride through An Affair Most Wicked.

Summary: A Great Addition To This Series!!!
Review: I thought that this was a great addition to the "American Heiress" series. The characters were fun and the storyline although done before in other formats was still entertaining.

Clara has come to London after a horrid season in New York. Her sister Sophia has married a Duke and with Sophia and James help she plans on finding a good man to marry. Circumstance lead her to a ball that she should NOT be attending and this is where we meet Seger. He is everything that Clara should stay clear of. Problem is they both find themselves attracted to each other in such a way that they can't help themselves. Seger is entranced with Clara. She is a breath of fresh air and his long frozen heart is starting to thaw but can he be the man she wants him to be?

This was a fun story that I took with me to the beachs of Spain and despite my location found myself loath to put the book down until the end. Ms. MacLean manages to pen a very sensual love story without being trite or overblown. Her characters are rich and fun. If your a fan of historical romance you will not want to miss this addition to the genre.

Summary: humorous Victorian romantic sequel
Review: In 1883, American Clara Wilton notices how happy her sister Sophia is with her ducal spouse of three years. She wants the same thing that her sibling has so watch out Ton the Wilton sisters are back in vogue.

Marquess Seger Wolfe is the Ton's number one lover because he gives more to his women than he receives back from them. He knows he will never find love again as he lost his one and only when she died eight years ago. Now he seeks superficial sex, but still tries to make it nice for his companion.

Clara's chaperone misplaces the invitation to a ball so they attend the wrong one. Instead of a high society event, Clara sees masks, sexy waltzes, and other scandalous behavior. Seger meets Clara and kisses her, but soon realizes she is in the wrong place. He helps Clara and her chaperone so that they are directed to the right ball two houses over. However, even the next morning he can smell her strawberry perfume and she wants more kisses from her mystery man as these two strangers in the night fall into a potentially scandalous love.

This is a delightfully humorous Victorian romantic sequel starring a delightfully outrageous lead duo and a wonderful support cast who bring out the best (and worst) in Seger and Clara. The story line is fun to follow as Clara breaks convention while Seger finds lightning strikes for the second time as he dreams of strawberry fields forever. Historical romance readers will enjoy this lighthearted late nineteenth century romp.

Summary: American Heiresses in London
Review: In An Affair Most Wicked, Julianne MacLean again touches on a little bit of history that many people may not know about. During the late Victorian period and into the early part of the twentieth century, American heiresses travelled to London to seek out titled husbands to give their new money an "old" feel.

Fortunately Clara Wilson, the second sister in Ms. MacLean's series, isn't second rate. Blessed with an adventurous spirit, if Clara were a contemporary heroine, she'd be the girl smoking with the guys in the boys' room--but would make sure she studied for her exams first. She's a bad girl who tries very hard to be good.

So who is her perfect match? London's most notorious rake, Seger Wolfe, the Marquess of Rawdon, of course. Seger is a good boy who tries very hard to be bad--and he's bad with a shocking number of London's ladies. Not that any of them are complaining, mind you. This is a man who knows how to please a woman. And make her say thank you, too.

Together, Clara and Seger try very hard to abide by the restrictions of polite society. Both of them have pasts they must somehow overcome but in order to do so, they have to trust each other. It's wonderful to see two such non-judgmental characters who learn to love each other for who they are and not what they have done. Clara is a heroine any woman can like, while Seger is a man any woman will love.

I can hardly wait for the next sister's story!

Summary: The perfect bedtime story.
Review: In An Affair Most Wicked, Julianne MacLean brings us the hero of our dreams. Many of us have a Seger in our past, and the lucky few still have him.
Seger is a man who truly enjoys women in every way, and by the end he loves the one woman who is his match. Clara is one of the first of the Buccaneers, American heiresses who in the late nineteenth century went to England to find a titled husband. She is a born rebel, who fights her impulses valiently, but thank heaven not successfully.
When you have finished Clara and Seger's delightful tale, leave the book lying around where your man might pick it up. Seger's moves and attitude beat the best how-to books I've ever read.

Summary: Disappointed. ** A low 4 stars. **
Review: In my romance world, a 10 rating means perfection - the author and I are in complete accord. 9 is a splendid read. 8 is a page turner but problems are surfacing. 7 is a page turner - but I'm disappointed. AN AFFAIR MOST WICKED is a 7. Seger Wolfe (Wolfe - how appropriate), the Marquess of Rawdon, is a sleaze. The Marquess is the equivalent of a high school senior who has everything: good looks, money, a car, and a varsity letter in every sport including the backseat rhythm. Clara Wilson is the inexperienced sophomore whom everyone has warned. This charismatic guy only wants to use her -- but Clara just knows she is the gal who can reform this sleaze artist.

American heiress, Clara Wilson, has journeyed to England to find a titled husband and to escape the scandal of a social faux pas. It seems Clara almost eloped with an embezzler. Seger Wolfe is living the good life, in and around every available "lady's" bed in England. Seger's scandalous behavior is the direct result of a lost love. Through social blunder, Clara and Seger meet . . . arousal has them both curious. In other words, Clara Wilson and Seger Wolfe are hot for each other. They marry quickly because they can't stay apart. Clara fancies herself in love; Seger knows it is a state of desire. The reader has now reached the halfway mark and marital problems become the story's focus. Woe is me.

At first, the relationship is romantic and wicked. Julianne MacLean has filled the pages with scandalous words and abundant love scenes. But after awhile, too much of a good thing is . . . is just that . . . too much. Some of the love scenes are superficial and pointless.

MacLean has chosen to draw her heroine, Clara, from the innocent, sympathetic and understanding mold -- a nice touch. Seger Wolfe, on the other hand, becomes a bore after the wedding vows. He is not fun anymore. However, the biggest problem with the book is the contemporary feel both in the dialogue and the attitude.

No doubt, Julianne MacLean is on her way. This lady will probably become a big star for the Avon publishing house. Her writing style is smooth and easy. However, in AN AFFAIR MOST WICKED, the author just hasn't found the historical niche. Grade: B-
