Summary: Uh, it was nice
Review: In the beginning I did enjoy the book, but toward the end my attention kind of was lost and I got bored with it. For me it was predictable of who had done it but maybe I am just really smart! Maybe not. Well, it was a nice book but I don't know if I would read it knowing how I feel now about it. It was nice but nothing amazing.

Summary: SNORE ....
Review: Oh Lord, please deliver me from this boring, plodding story line. If it were not for my fetish about finishing every book I read, this one would have been back on the shelf within the first few chapters. Syrupy sweet; I feel like I've overdosed on cake & cookies after some time with this one. Mr. Sparks first book was very enjoyable, I think they have progressively declined since.

Summary: Very Disappointed!!
Review: I have read all of Sparks' books and this was the worst one that I have read. It was so boring and slow and I hope that he does not write any more like this one.

Summary: DISAPPOINTING LAST 50 PAGES HURT THIS STORY
Review: I became very interested in these characters right from the start. They were engaging and likable and people who I could identify with.

However, the last 50 pages proved to be very unsatisfying, as the protagonist took a turn down an extremely irrational road from which he never recovered. Reviewers who called this story "sweet" and "uplifting" obviously didn't stay onboard till the end.

The story deserved a better resolution.

Summary: Good Summer Reading
Review: This is my first book of Nicolas Sparks and I must say it was an enjoyable one. I would have liked a little more surprise to it, but nevertheless, it was one you don't want to put down. I thought the author understood the pain this man was feeling and really depicted it quite well. I enjoyed how he developed his characters and his ability to keep us guessing. It was a fast, fun summer book. I highly recommend it for a good story line.

Summary: Don't waste time reading this book
Review: This novel is boring and predictable. The abstract at the back cover of the book and the first couple chapters are more than enough to tell the entire story. It didn't touch the readers' emotion like I expected it would.

Summary: Don't buy this book
Review: I don't know who Nicholas Sparks is and "A bend in the road" is his first book I read. I got it at the airport cause it was on the bestseller's rack. I'm amazed that such a boring book can make it to the #1 bestseller. The love story is totally boring and predictable. The so called mystery is very disappointing. I've read much better novels than this one. I'm a very emotional person and I cry quite often when reading novels. But this book didn't stir up my emotion at all. It's very easy to figure out who is the hit-and-run driver after you read the story abstract at the back-cover of the book and the first couple chapters. No suprise at all.

Summary: A Tale of Love and Mystery
Review: The people involeved in this tale is Miles Ryan and his wife Missy. They live in New Bern, North Caroline. Miles is a Shefiff in this small community. This young couple has a five year old son, Jonah.

Lets step back for a minute and start from the begining of the book. A man gets out of bed, goes to his typewriter and starts to write this story:

A young man just out of high school waiting for the summer to be over before heading off to college, had been working overtime. He was so exhausted and hungry he decided to go to a friends for a cook out and unwind. Before the night ever began he took a road that he wished he had never traveled. He later reflects that in different times of our lives we make wrong decisions. This was one of his. It effected not only his life but four other people. This is his story to tell.

One evening a young woman goes for a run along the country road. She hears a car slowly coming up behind her. She gets off to the side of the road to let the car pass. The driver of the car sees her and he also gets over so he won't hit her. Just as he approaches a bend in the road, a big black dog rushes out from under the brush and charges at the woman. He hears a thud. He couldn't believe he had hit her. He gets out of his old beat-up car and starts walking both sides of the road. Suddenly he knows where to look for her. He ran back to the front of his car and looks down a slight slope and there she laid in a twisted angle. He knew she was dead. She had stepped in front of his car to get away from the dog. He was scared and heart sick. He didn't want anyone finding her looking like that so he gently covered her up with a blanket and drove off. Later he discovered it was Missy Ryan.

For two years Miles and Jonah went into deep grief and depression. The only thing on Miles mind was finding out who murdered Missy. It had become an obsession with him.

One day Jonah's school teacher, Sarah Andrews, walks into their lives and they start to live again. Miles and Sarah never dreamed that just as they declared their love for each other, that life's twist and turns would come to shatter their lives.

This story is about guilt, grieving, love and finally redemption. Miles had to go to his own "Bend in the Road" to discover the imprefections and frailties in his own life.
Who is the man at the type writer? What does he have to do with this story? You will have to read the book to find out.
This is Nicholas Sparks at his best!

Summary: Still a faithful Sparks fan, but . . .
Review: I took this book along with me because I had a 2-day jury duty summons. I finished the entire 368-page novel in two sittings.

This book was a disappointment to me, because, frankly, it reads rather like a Young Adult Mystery novel. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The premise was good - it was! It just seemed like it was written in a hurry & was considerably less emotional than his other works. This book is NOTHING compared to "The Notebook," which changed my life.

I'm sorry, but this book was just lame. I'm reading "The Rescue" next & hope it's better.

Summary: What a book!
Review: This is an absolutely great book! A gentle, uplifting love story and a bit of drama and mystery to go along together make this book one of my favorites and in my opinion, Nicholas Sparks' best book.

The characters in this book are believable, the premise interesting, and Sparks' development of both is more than satisfying. It is hard for me to believe that Nicholas Sparks continues to write better with each book, but that seems to be the case, as is definitely evidenced in A Bend in the Road. Whether you're a long time Sparks fan or have yet to read a book, I would recommend this book in the highest terms!
