Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: After reading Confessions of a Shopaholic and the Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, I had to find out what happens next with Becky Bloomwood! This book is hilarious! Becky Bloomwood continues to get herself into more trouble than you could possibly imagine. I spent the entire read wondering how she would get out of trouble this time. The answer is never predictable!!!
Rating: Summary: Planning a wedding (or two!) can be stressful Review: Hopefully you've acquainted yourself with the spending habits (it's a sickness really) and rationalizations of one Becky Bloomwood in Kinsella's series Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. In this 2003 follow-up, Becky is up to her old habits by the 8th page, where she finds a lovely antique trunk for her best friends Suze and Tarquin as their wedding gift. But why not also get an antique cocktail cabinet for her and Luke, a combined total of $800!Becky's been living in New York with her handsome, successful boyfriend Luke for about a year while she works at Barney's as (you guessed it) a personal shopper. Now engaged, Becky and Luke are getting married in 5 months and Becky's not going to get carried away. Yeah, right! Her mum's very excited about doing the planning herself back in England. However Luke's upper-crust birthmother, Elinor, is causing tension between everyone with her above-it-all attitude. Elinor is hosting an engagement party (well, that's ok), has hired her own wedding planner (without consulting Becky and knowing full-well there's another wedding being planned in England) and has booked The Plaza! You heard me, The Plaza! Plus the little fact that the owner of Becky and Luke's apartment building is selling, forcing them to move. So far, very stressful. Wait, it gets worse (or better, for the reader). One the one hand, obviously, The Plaza. On the other hand, a wedding back home in England with her family and friends, familiar surroundings, her home. And her mum's so into the planning. She's had her house interior re-done! Which wedding will Becky choose? In which country will they exchange their vows? How long will she wait to make a decision? How many dresses will she buy? Here's a little taste: "This isn't exactly how I pictured my engagement party would be. First of all the door people try to stop me going in. Then I don't know anybody. Then the only things to eat are low-fat, high-protein cubes of fish and, even then, the wait staff look taken aback when you actually eat them." At the Bridal Shop: Cynthia smiles at us and surveys her clipboard. "So we're after something either simple or elaborate, with sleeves or strapless, possibly with beading and/or embroidery and either with a train or without." "Exactly!" My eye follows hers around the shop. "But you know I'm quite flexible." "How many have I tried on now?" "That takes us up to . . . thirty-five." "And how many have I marked so far as possibles?" "Thirty-two." "Really?" I look up in surprise. "Which ones didn't I like?" Sophie Kinsella's books are so well written. Not everyone can write humor. Some characters are outrageous while others you'd be proud to call your friend. I've enjoyed all three Shopaholic books, laughing all the way, and can't wait to read her next series.
Rating: Summary: It's not the greatest book... Review: This book was good, but not great like the other two. It was quite hard for me to want to read it after about the fifth page. This book was the hardest for me to read of the series. I know it is probably because it had to do with her getting married, and I'm older than her and not married, or attached to someone who I think would make a good husband, friend, etc... Just because you read the first two, if you are tired of all the marriage talk and information the media throws at you, don't read. If you are a newlywed or deeply in love, you will probably love this book.
Rating: Summary: Stupider and stupider Review: Come on. With each shopaholic book the main character keeps getting stupider and ditzier. This is so far out, I could barely keep an interest. I just wanted to smack Becky. And luke really has no personality. I wanted to her to end up with his friend, honestly. Read for yourself, you'll how amazingly rediculous this plot becomes.
Rating: Summary: I'm a little bored with the zany chick books Review: Shopaholic Ties the Knot was fine for what it is: a fluffy read, not intended for the thinking woman who really wants to identify and delve into the topic of engagement (yikes) and marriage. I would recommend Otherwise Engaged for anyone who wants a book they can perhaps learn something from, and the laughs are more frequent and witty versus slapstick. Just my own opinion...
Rating: Summary: Fun to read Review: I have read all three of the Shopoholic books. The end of the series is not different from the first two. Becky is still fun but this time in trouble with her weddings. It is a very quick read, I enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Becky's at Barney's!! Review: How appropriate for Becky to get a job at her mecca, Barney's! And a personal shoper to boot! I'm sure you can only imagine a Shopaholic's wedding plans........this third book in Kinsella's series about Becky Bloomwood finishes it off very well. Can't wait for Kinsella's next heroine!
Rating: Summary: good love story, but just like the rest Review: This book has a good romance, some funny bits, but overall - it's just like the other two books. I know this is what the readers expect and the author just followed what's been a bestseller. But it was still predictable and a letdown for me.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first two Review: Still an enjoyable read, and a must to complete the series, but not as fun as the first two in the series. Becky is still as witty as ever, and still manages to get herself in a mess that she can only try and lie herself out of. They don't touch as much on her shopping problems in this one though. Do recommend to finish out the series!
Rating: Summary: Keep Shopaholic Coming! Review: I have read all three of the Shopoholic books, and enjoyed them. They are very entertaining and make me feel a whole lot better about my bad habits, such as shopping, and trying to please everyone. "Shopaholic Ties the Knot" came at the perfect time. I am planning my own wedding. As stressful as my wedding planning is, it will never reach the depths that Becky Bloomwood has gotten herself into. Very enjoyable, and I hope there will be more books about Becky.
