Rating: Summary: Becky is the best! Review: Just received this book last week and already finished it. Love this series, love Becky and love Sophie Kinsella! I hope she plans on continuing this series for all us shopaholics to enjoy!
Rating: Summary: I want more Review: This book was so much better than I had anticipated! I was slightly disappointed by 'Shopaholic Takes Manhattan' (thought still a fun book) and didn't know what to expect in this installment. It exceeded expectations! Becky is back again...with Luke, still living in Manhattan and working at Barney's as a Personal Shopper. Becky and Luke get engaged, and the wedding plans begin! Becky's mother wants a cute backyard wedding in England, while Luke's mother has already begun planning an extravagant Plaza Hotel affair. Becky can't find a way to say 'no' to either! This book doesn't focus so much on her shopping habits (though they are still extravagant!), but it focuses on her weakness at saying 'no' in general. This leands to a variety of hilarious situations that will keep you smiling. It's unfortunate this is the last in the series, as i will miss Becky & Co! NB: Sophie Kinsella previews her new book "Can You Keep a Secret" which is scheduled to be released in the US early 2004. Can I wait that long??
Rating: Summary: FUN-TAS-TIC Review: For once, Becky's life seems to run smoothly. Her job as personal shopper is going well. She lives in a fabulous Manhattan apartment with her enterpreneur boyfriend, Luke Brandon -- making friends with Danny Kovitz, the failure designer upstairs. She even now having a joint account with Luke. But then, when Becky and Luke go back to England for Suze and Tarquin's wedding, Luke throws a big surprise. He proposed!! And suddenly everything gets hectic! Becky's Mum wants her to get married in Oxshott while Luke's mother wants her son to get married in New York Plaza, with a extravaganza wedding. Now Becky is facing a BIG dilemma (letting down her Mum or letting a Vera Wang wedding dress goes by!) as she has to choose, which side of the Atlantic where her wedding would be.Oh, goodie, Becky Bloomwood's back!! I'm a fan of the previous Shopaholic books. So when I saw this U.K edition of the newest Shopaholic book, I grabbed it without a doubt. And this book is as hilarious as the first two!! Becky was not doing much shopping in this book, but she did put herself into big trouble. She found out that two weddings are arranged simultaneously in Oxshott, England and New York City!! It was fun to see how Becky tries to deal with it. Not to mention there were a lot of things happen in her life at the same time too: Michael Ellis (her American friend from "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan") got a heart attack, Luke had a midlife crisis (in the age of 34 *grin*), her new friend, Danny, almost got her fired, her newest client, Laurel, couldn't think of anything else but having revenge on her cheating husband and mistress, and of course Suze was having a baby!! This is one hell of a book to read. In some chapters, I couldn't even stop giggling. Such as when Becky was reading passages from "The Promise of Your Live", a book she bought to help her making wedding vows ("You helped me through the pain of rehab ... Though you are incarcerated for murder, our love will shine like a beacon ...). The new characters introduced here were all exciting. And the old ones still there (Suze and Tarquin, for example) If you like the previous two books, you're gonna LOVE this one.
Rating: Summary: Contrary to what it portraits in the first few pages... Review: It was really funny in the first few chapters. I bought it last summer before i travelled to Europe, and thought it'd be a good book to spend my 13+ hour flights (I live in Hong Kong). I brought it with me all over Europe, read until Ch.12 (there're 21). I'm usually quite fast at reading novels. (I can finish a Sidney Sheldon in 4 hours.) But as the story goes, it was getting less & less interesting, so it became my last resort - I only read it when I had absolutely nothing else to do. Being a shopaholic myself (I have 100+ pairs of Manolos), and having just got married, (I got married late 2001), I could identify myself with her.. but it soon became stupid more than funny. I got frustrated with her that I finally didn't bother to read on anymore. I think it could have been more funny if it stuck with those stupid things she did in order to buy what she wanted & to hide her new found treasures from her fiance.
Rating: Summary: Much better than book #2 Review: I just finished reading this book, which is almost as funny as the first "Shopaholic" book. The proposal scene, in the beginning, was so unique. The story has progressed, and the author focused on more challanging problems. Yet, all this is accomplished with humor. A great light read for anyone.
Rating: Summary: I love Luke Brandon and I want to marry him Review: I was kind of dubious when I picked up this book, thinking that there was no way that Sophie Kinsella could possibly make another fabulous addition to the Shopaholic series. I was wrong. I finished it in one sitting, like I did the other two, because I literally couldn't put it down. Like the other two, this book was very engaging; I was laughing out loud and gasping in shock at some parts, then smacking my forhead at other. I completely identified with her shopping rationale (Miu Miu skirts are OF COURSE household items; where do you keep them?) and her desire to please everyone. Luke was even more likable in this book - note the title of my review. Just read the thing now!
Rating: Summary: Wow! What an awesome discovery! Review: Thursday I randomly grabbed Confessions of a Shopaholic. Friday I was back at the bookstore to buy Shopaholic Takes Manhattan and Shopaholic Ties the Knot. It is 2:42AM and I am still laughing! I have finished all three of the books and I have to say that I am so thrilled with finding these rare gems of pure humor and romance. I just wish MY husband was so understanding about my idiosyncrasies! Well not counting my book buying of course.
Rating: Summary: When you need a charming heroine and a good laugh Review: I have read all 3 of the Shopoholic books with much enjoyment. Great literature, they're not but when you need stress-relief or a good laugh, this is where to get it! Wonderfully written, with a heroine whose lovable and amusing, these books hit the spot. I have laughed out loud many times! A welcome break from work, school and all other responsibilities!
Rating: Summary: I thought it was going to be good, but it was so much better Review: I bought this book at noon on the day it came out. I had to go back to work, so I couldn't start then, even if I wanted to. When I got home from work, I started, and I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!! I finished all 328 pages in one night!! I was expecting it to be good, and I was so excited when I bought it, but the story was so much better than that! It's very engaging, I didn't find any slow spots. I haven't read the other two in about six months, so I had to get up a couple of times and search through them for explanations, but other than that, it was amazing!!!
Rating: Summary: Shopaholic Remains a Hit Review: I've had this book (the UK version) since last May. It only took a few hours to read and after that I read it another 4 times. It's more of a dramedy this time. Luke goes through a midlife crisis...funny incident about the shoes. I felt horrible for him. With that said, I won't ruin anymore...but it's very good. Sophie Kinsella is amazing, and the whole storyline flows nicely. I'm hoping to get another installment but Ms. Kinsella (aka Madelaine Wickham) says she only planned three. Here's hoping she changed her mind. I'm going to pick up my American copy of Shopaholic ties the Knot today. It looks a lot shorter than than the UK version, I'm curious to see what she took out. Also her next series, Can You Keep A Secret is out in the UK March 17th. I can't wait. Her books are definitely worth the overseas s&h. :)
