Rating: Summary: A Super-charged Emotional Read Review: REDEEMING LOVE is an historical romance that doubles as an allegory for the Biblical story of Hosea. It was actually the first book that Rivers wrote as a new Christian but was published in this market sixth. If you're not familiar with Hosea then I suggest you sit and read that (Old Testament) book first. In it, God commands Hosea to take a prostitute as his wife. The prostitute is unfaithful and leaves but God commands Hosea to find her, forgive her and accept her again, as an example of how much He loves Israel. It is a powerful story of bitter-sweet love and extreme forgiveness. That same story is re-told here, in the setting of the old west. It is just as extreme and just as powerful. Rivers is the queen of character development and that strength is played upon even more than usual here. In the end, REDEEMING LOVE is a super-charged and emotional read that will both bring you to tears and give you a much deeper understanding of just how much God really loves you. FIVE STARS.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: Many wrote raving reviews. To be less-redundant as possible, I am not a romance book reader. "Christian romance?" Sounds kinda oxymoronic. Having been recommended this book from a friend, I was surprisingly enthralled. I couldn't put the book down. The author doesn't go into high-flooty-tooty words, the kinds I usually skim over because I want to get to the real stuff. This was a must read every word!!!
Rating: Summary: 'Redeeming Love' by Francine Rivers Review: 'Redeeming Love' is a powerful adaptation of the Biblical story of the prophet Hosea who takes a prostitute as his wife. It is adult fiction at it's best, touching the heart in a compelling way. I've always loved this story in the Bible because it portrays the magnitude of God's unconditional love for His beloved Bride, the Church. The characterizations of Michael and Angel are true to the Biblical characters of Hosea and Gomer, although the modern setting necessarily incoporates different incidents. It is passionately written and I found my emotions stirred repeatedly as I followed this bitter-sweet story to its end. It is exceptionally well-crafted and I recommend the highest rating for this book.
Rating: Summary: Redeeming Love Review: Beautiful story! This is the first book I've read by Francine Rivers and I cannot wait to read her other books. I read "Redeeming Love" in 15 hours. I couldn't put the book down and shared it with everyone in my family. I have read the story of Hosea and Gomer in the Bible, but this book really shows God's unconditional love in the story of Micheal Hosea and Angel. A must read for anyone that has ever doubted God's love for his children.
Rating: Summary: I love this book!!! Review: Redeeming love was one of the best books I have ever read. The characters were so alive. Ever word or page that I read I always wanted to know whats going to happen next! Micheal Hosea sounds like a teriffic guy! I wish I knew some one with the same personality. I loved it so much and I got closer to God by reading and understanding what He can do in our lives. I so wish that there was a secule and a movie to this book. I would buy it no matter what!
Rating: Summary: A captivating, heart wrenching story of grace and love Review: This was by far one of the best books I have ever read!! It was definately a book I could not put down.( even my husband wanted to know what happened next. ) To me it was an allegory of Gods' unfailing love for us (also the story of Hosea.)It was about a man who God told he was to marry a prostitute and though he knew everything about her, he loved her and her beauty far surpassed all others. This book changed my life and made Gods' love for us even more of a reality to me because as the book progressed and as Michael Hosea persued Angel, she like many people could not understand why he loved her so much, and it was so hard for her to accept love for free. Redeeming Love is a book I highly recommend to anyone struggling to understand what Gods' grace and unfailing love is all about.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful! Review: I have read a lot of books and I have a lot of favorites (some, I thought to be "the best book I've ever read"), so when my friend gave me this book on tape to listen to, I didn't really want to. I had my favorite authors and had never heard of Francine Rivers. Why listen to it? WOW! Has Ms. Rivers changed my mind. I must say this is absolutely, unequivocally, the best book I have ever read (well listened to!) It's a thought-provoking feel-good story! I love it! You will not be disappointed. Half-way through listening to it I got on-line and bought it! I can't wait until it gets here to hold it in my hands and savor every word!!
Rating: Summary: Greatest book!!! Review: This is the best book I have ever read. I can't believe that it was so powerful and changing. The woman, Angel is a prostitute and God gives her friends that change her life forever. Whe you are reading this book, everything that Angel goes through, you fell also, like it is happening to you. I read ithis book in a day and a half. I couldn't put it down. I recomend it to anyone. Even if you don't like love stories.
Rating: Summary: An Enthralling Read Review: I read this book because it was on the list of one of my favorite Christian speakers' "perks." The story is very good, an excellent retelling of Hosea and his wife, a sinful prostitute. However, one should be forewarned that it does deal with child prostitution, implied sexual abuse, and has a LOT of sensuality in it. I understand that due to the nature of the book itself, showing Angel's life for what it has been, some of it is nessisary. But one should do well to be wary of referring people to it too easily.
Rating: Summary: Story of Love Review: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is one of the best books that has been written. The book is well written and the way she writes draws you into the book. Every time you pick up the book to read there is no stopping. The story is about God's unwavering love for every one of us. Angel is a sinful harlot that has never known God and thinks of Him as he hateful father. Then Michael Hosea, a God-fearing man, sees the beautiful harlot and knows within him she is supposed to be his. He tries to show her that God loves her and he loves her but she is so hard from being a prostitute that any kind of love is hard for Angel to fathom. She runs away more than once and Michael goes and saves her and shows her the love of God. He finally breaks Angel's walls with the help of God and she falls in love with him. Even though it seemed to work out, she ran away again and found the love she had been looking for all her life. God's love gave her peace and comfort forever. The book has such strong writing and depiction of the life Angel lived it made you hurt inside for her. Francine Rivers is an amazing writer because of the way she chooses her words and phrases. Every chapter she would start with a Bible verse which just made an even heavier impact upon you and what you were reading.
