Rating: Summary: WHAT AN ADVENTURE!!!! Review: Francine Rivers' trilogy is unsurpassed in Christian fiction. From the very first chapter, the reader is enthralled in numerous subplots that all underwrite the main purposes of the novels--to show man's need for a Savior and to show the results of accepting that Savior. As a high school English teacher, I have chosen to require the reading of this trilogy by each of my students. Not only is it a great learning tool for mythology and ancient Rome, but it also serves as a great example of the power of Christ's love. If you haven't read it, do so. . .it will change you.
Rating: Summary: Awesome series!! Review: My local library only had the 2nd and 3rd books in this series, so I was reluctant to read it without being able to start at the beginning. Eventually I got the 2nd book and couldn't put it down till I finished the 3rd as well. I won't even try to add more to the other reviews I've seen here, just reiterate that this is a must-read series. I did eventually get to read the first book and then had to re-read the others!! Francine Rivers is a truly gifted author.
Rating: Summary: mark of the lion series Review: simply the most exciting, theologically true, and engrossing work of fiction I have ever read. The deep, rich truths jumped off the page. I liked the fact that the characters were flawed HUMANS. Many times in Christian fiction the characters are just a little too perfect therefore making them very one-dimentional. I could relate to ALL of the players in some way. The fact that the story took place during ancient Rome did so much to reflect on todays society, thus making it a truly relivant tale. I highly recommend all three books. They are ALL page turners!
Rating: Summary: Mark of th Lion series Review: This series challenged me in my faith to do what God wants of true Christians. Also, it was a difficult time in my life when our oldest son left home with the help of some friends and we were falsely slandered. There are some excellent principles in this series and I very highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Life Changing Fiction Review: My sister had been after me for over a year to read Francine Rivers. My neice bought the "The Mark of Lion" series and left them at my house. When I began to read "A Voice In the Wind" the time after Jesus' death became alive. I was mesmerized by the characters. Their real life struggles were gripping. Hadassah's faith was not only inspiring but convicting to me. I read all three books in a week. I really must listen to my sister more often. Read this series and you will never be the same.
Rating: Summary: Mark of the Lion<3 Review: Francine River's has really brought out Christainity in Roman times into focus. It kept me spell bound and wanting more.I hated to see the book end.You really get into the characters.Waiting to get the next book was very hard for me.It simply put;One Magnificent peice of writing.Way to go Francine Rivers.
Rating: Summary: If you want to buy A Voice in the Wind -- Get the Trilogy! Review: If you read A Voice in the Wind, you will definitely want the other two books, so you should save yourself some money and get all three at once! These books are amazing. They take place in the first century a decade or so after Christ's death -- Have you ever wondered about the early Christian church, or why they talk about slaves so much in the New Testament? The character of Hadassah is unforgettable. The first book will make you cry and leave you desperately wanting to read the next one. After you finish them, you'll want to lend them out to your friends, they are so amazing! Unfortunately, I only ordered the first book when someone recommended the series to me. I ended up ordering the second two before I even finished the first -- but had to wait several days before geting to read them! Learn from my mistake, and go ahead and order all three now --- unless you're trying to cultivate the gift of patience!
Rating: Summary: Incomparable Historical Fiction! Review: Reader Beware.....You will never be the same after reading this this trilogy by my all time favorite author, Francine Rivers. She has surpassed all boundaries of Christian Romance in these three books. You like classic epics like Ben-hur? Or early Christian Romances like The Robe (film)? Then you'll love this treasure of these brave early Christians. The Romance. The Courage. You'll be on the edge of your seat before "A Voice in the Wind" is over. And each novel ends with you wanting to tear open the next. Words cannot describe the warmth in which I recommend these books, along with another favorite, "Redeeming Love". Readers will never forget the outstanding characters, the meaning of unconditonal love, or the value of faith put to the test. You cannot imagine the love the will fill you. I've even dreamt about the characters. You just cannot be the same without them.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and Inspirational! Review: These books helped me to see the new testament characters as real people. Rivers' knowledge of the time period reveals and enlightens. Her use of scripture inspires the reader to seek a closer relationship with God and a desire to search the scriptures with new insight. My personal rlationship with Our Lord and my hunger to be even closer has grown since reading these inspired novels. I read them in about two days each and I might even go back and read them a second time!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST! Review: I've read various authors, Danielle Steele, Sidney Sheldon, Taylor Caldwell, Janette Oke but no author has the gift that Francine Rivers has. I have just finished the first book in the Mark of the Lion series and am astonished. Before I read it, I had no interest at all in the Roman Empire. It was too "foreign." But all has changed now. No matter who you are, what you do, what you have done, where you've been or where you're going, do NOT miss this series! This is profound, riveting reading. You will be thinking about the characters long after the book is finished. You will see the terrorizing parellels of ancient Rome to modern America. It is absolutely terrifying. In one review, someone wrote that it is too graphic. It has to be. This is humankind at its absolute worst and serves as a wake-up call to all of us. The bible also tells the Truth and graphically does so. In the midst of all the mess, there is Hadassah, whose heart is pure and is able to love with an unconditional love. I would be interested to hear from anyone who reads the series and does not like it or is not changed by it.
