Rating: Summary: Seduction by Design Review: This book is not as good as some of her past books. It seems like she is just using her name and not really coming out with anything great. This book should be in paperback because its alright but not great.
Rating: Summary: Recycled Harlequin Review: This book was just another recycled Harlequin. It was written in 1993 but republished as a much more expensive hardcover in 2001. The title says it is a "classic" romance, probably as a shaded disclaimer to let the reader know that the leading man is a pushy male chauvinist pig. If he displayed this same kind of lecherous behavior in this day and age, he'd be slapped with a sexual harrassment suit.
Rating: Summary: If only I could give 0 stars Review: This is the most pathetic book I have ever read/heard. I picked up this book (on tape) on a whim at the public library-the title was intriguing. I'm a guy who usually reads non-fiction or more literary fiction type of stuff. I thought this would be a fun departure - whew! If I had to hear one more sappy description of a kiss, I was ready to vomit. If this kind of [content] is what women out there find entertaining, then ladies you need to get out more and [have sex], cause this stuff is absolute drivel and is a total distortion of reality. Here's why 1)The implication, of course, is that only rich, handsome, well built guys can charm and pursue a lady - not true. (and not once was there ever a time in the story where the guy worked out - so how does he keep his stunning physique?). 2) If Hailey has that level of an inferiority complex then she would be eating up any complements that she received, not spurning them, it's the pathetic and mega-stereotyped sister that had the lack of self-esteem 3) I knew Hailey was a virgin right off the bat (mature 28 year old professionals wouldn't have such an indignant response if she thought he was hot). Her responses to his advances were childish and immature. 4) Regardless of that, the scene in his office where he tells her he is going to seduce (read: have sex with her) - would clearly be sexual harassment and there isn't a CEO in his right mind that would say that crap. 5) Never was there a reason why Tyler fell in love with her, her eyes, puuuhhleeeze. 6) Everytime Faith was in a scene, I cringed; this was again so blatantly and poorly stereotyped. This characterization was just plain bad, thin and trite. 7) This story makes sex seem like such a big freakin deal. I've got news for you. Sex is part and parcel of being a normal fulfilled person and not some esoteric cosmic brain melt that only happens with a "true love." - I could go on and on about all of the lame and tedious nonsense that was in this book, but I fear that it all falls on deaf ears anyways - [Women] need to have more sex and sensuality in your real lives, cause if this garbage turns you on, you are missing out on a whole lot of living. --This text refers to the Audio Cassette edition
Rating: Summary: Seduction By Design Review: This really is a great concept for a book, but it lacked in the character's personalities. For one, Hailey takes things too seriously and the insecurity bit is stressed way too much. Secondly, any female who lets a man walk all over her like that has major problems. If this were reality, Hailey should be seeking professional help. But like I said, the concept is great but the characters are not. It isn't necessarily a bad read, it just could have been much better.
Rating: Summary: Good for a quick read, but don't invest much time in it! Review: This story, like many of the older romance novels is about an insecure woman who meets a successful and charming man. He sweeps her off her feet with the same run of the mill bumps in the road that happen in romance. The characters are under developed and the story is anything but unique. I like reading romance with a strong woman who isn't a doormat. So, if you are looking for a book to make you laugh, cry and cheer for the characters...my advice, choose a different one.
Rating: Summary: GIVE THE AUTHOR A BREAK! Review: This was a lovely story that upheld old-fashioned values. Tyler and Hailey upheld certain standards and I found that refreshing. I do not feel that Tyler "sexually harrassed" Hailey. This story is romantic "FICTION" at its best. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: One of Brown's worst! Review: This was the worst Sandra Brown book I have ever heard. Not only were the characters shallow (the kid's temper tantrum was probably the best thing about the book) but the "love story" between Tyler and Hailey just made me ill. The characters Hailey, with her paranoia and low self esteem issues (Oh, my sister is so much prettier than me, boo hoo, no one is going to love me, boo hoo), and Tyler, with his boorish behavior and dialogue (something along the lines of him being a naked warrior when they were at the cabin), just wanted to make me hide the book in shame.
Rating: Summary: Steamy, Short & Sweet Review: Whew! This short novel (183 pages) is one long seduction scene. From the moment Tyler Scott lays eyes on Hailey Ashton, the client relations manager at a popular and successful theme park that he owns in Tennessee, he sets out to seduce her. But, not surprisingly, their courtship is fraught with misunderstandings and false starts. Hailey doesn't think she is nearly as attractive as her perky younger sister, so thinks Tyler is probably more interested in her. She also believes that he just wants to use her as a babysitter for his 11 year old daughter. Hailey lacks self-confidence and wants to be taken seriously as a career woman, and has had no fulfilling relationships with men in the past. She can't really believe that Tyler would be interested in her and is convinced that he just wants to use her. She has become very fond of his daughter Faith, who badly needs a feminine role model since the death of her mother. Tyler's blatant and aggressive pursuit of his employee Hailey is a little far-fetched in today's litigious society. But, it's a fun, old-fashioned love story, and you're rooting for both of them to get together, because they seem so right for each other and they need each other so much. The ending is entirely predictable, but the process of getting there is quick and fun!
Rating: Summary: I cringed to imagine this plot in today's society!!!! Review: While I did somewhat enjoy "Seduction By Design," something caught my attention and prompted me to look at the copyright date in the front of this book. To my surprise, it was 1983. Then the whole book made more sense to me. As far as Hailey and Tyler were concerned....welll......I think it was pretty trashy the way he demanded that she be his "woman." GAG!!!!!!! If I hear a line like that today directed towards me..that man had better watch his step. I love SB and will continue to read her books...but this one was a shot in the dark!!!
