Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: pretty boring Review: I have been reading this book and I am about 20 pages from the end. I was going to say that unless something really outstanding takes place in those 20 pages, I wouldn't recommend it, but the truth is, even if that is the case, I still would not recommend this book. There are a few laugh outloud moments, but all in all..it bores me to tears.

I was not disappointed, although at times I was scared! This story has some darkness about it that I am not used to reading in brit chick books!! Nevertheless, it was hilarious and I was laughing out loud - and as I've said before, I LOVE when books make me do this!! If you like brit chick lit, you will like this book, but I would say it is not your "typical" story, but a good venture out for you into other areas of brit chick adventures!!

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not quite there Review: I loved this author`s firt novel Amanda`s Wedding and was therefore anxiously awaiting this one. What a disappointmnet. This book felt tedious and contrived. I missed the wonderful sarcasm that was so evident in Amanda`s Wedding and I just could not like any of the characters in this one. This book simply felt off for me. I did not enjoy the "so called" romance aspect of it and unfortunately, the comedy wasn`t very funny. I also HATED the cover of this book.

I first heard of this book from Teen People Magazine and I'm glad I read it! I recomend it to everyone who likes to read a lot.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Best book EVER (of its genere) Review: I stumbled on this book during a trip to the UK last year. I've since loaned it to all my friends, and they have all given it rave reviews. I loaned it to literary friends, technogeek friends, and the reviews from them have all been great. The narrative has a wonderful cadence to it, with laugh out loud moments. It's sit-com style humor is reminiscent of Bridget Jones, but without the more irritating neurosis of Bridget. Talking to Addison comes to its wonderful Jenny-Colgan style crescendo in a hospital, with a heavy-metal band, a wannabe Tory (translation Republican) politician and a roomful of coma patients. The characters are fun and accessible and people that I wish I knew. All in all, a very fun read. Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: An easy, fun read for a lazy summer day Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Holly and her flatmates. Every page that I turned in this book had me anticipating more of Holly's ploys and mishaps to gain the attention of Addison and make social connections with other characters in the book. It truly had me laughing out loud. My only disappointment with the book came with the ending. The whole hospital bit seemed to drag on and on, and the actual ending seemed somewhat misaligned with the intentions of the characters. I guess I was just expecting the obvious, but was surprised instead. And as a side note, the excessive use of profanity might be offensive to some people. Another good book to try of Ms. Colgan's is Amanda's Wedding.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: amusing tale Review: In spite of being close to thirty, florist Holly Livingstone feels quite awkward when it comes to relationships especially with roommates. Unable to deal with her current houseshare partners any longer, Holly leaves to move in with an old college crony Josh, who simply feels sorry for her plight. Josh's roommates in their dilapidated home include another former college peer Kate and an invisible computer geek Addison. Holly has never seen Addison though she hears computer noises form his room. Unable to resist, she meets Addison for the first time by pulling a Charge of the Light Brigade into his room, which is loaded with equipment. Holly falls in love for the first time fantasizing about her techno he-man. However, Addison can only communicate through his computer and since Holly barely can turn a computer on she wonders how to turn the object of her affection on to her. Holly quickly knows she competes with Addison's Internet girlfriend who is several thousand miles away but shares his key phobic trait. However, once Holly succeeds in getting him away from his monitor, she soon understands she must rescue the monster she has created before she can find her own happiness. TALKING TO ADDISON contains a strong cast of eccentric characters who turn a rather weak plot into an amusing tale with strong serious undertones. The story line focuses on Holly's selfish efforts to gain the love of Addison without understanding the cost to the reticent technological nerd. As she did with AMANDA'S WEDDING, Jenny Colgan provides readers with a droll yet sober look at computer age relationships. Harriet Klausner
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Light, sweet read Review: It's not deep. It's not spectacular, or ponderous, or deeply stimulating. If you want that stuff in a package having to do with a woman's life, read serious fiction, maybe something by Elizabeth Berg (except "Until the Real Thing Comes Along," that is), or Alice Hoffman. If you do read it, you'll probably find that bits of the plot strike you as similar to Bridget Jones' Diary, but if you'd ever read Pride and Prejudice the whole of BJD would make you think "Thief!" So I'm not going to discount it because it shares some of the same plot elements as Jane Austen's famous work with BJD. Compared to BJD, it is much more 'literary' - a real first-person narrative. In the end, I don't know that I'd buy it (I have too many books already!), but it was well worth the hours I spent reading it. I did read it in one sitting, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was mostly a light, gentle story that was sweet and slightly romantic and made me think of my very own geek. The pop culture and tech references made me smile, and so did the 'antics' of Holly and her friends. I think if you give them the chance, they'll make you smile, too. I give it four out of five stars in the "light, fun read" category.
