Summary: Baumann boldly rethinks current multicultural theory.
Review: The Multicultural Riddle is a bold rethinking of current multicultural theory. Baumann identifies the three points of the multicultural triangle as national culture, ethnic culture, and religious culture, and calls into question essentialist notions of these three identities. Looking cross-categorically and rethinking reified categories as processes are the goals of Baumann's theory, and he incorporates the means to these goals into his interpretive analyses. The book is a fresh and well-thought response to current multicultural theory, and is definitely a recommended read for those interested in multiculturalism, sociology, politics and governmnet, philosophy, and religion.
