Summary: Outstanding
Review: I have never in all of my life read a more excellent book other than the Bible explaining in intimate detail of God's attributes. Since this preacher was known in his day for his outstanding detail to his writings, this is a must read. It must be read slowly as someone else said, a bit at a time. I have been moved to tears at times as I've read this book and it has blessed me tremendously.

Summary: As good as it gets
Review: Other than the Scriptures, this is the most comprehensive work on the character of God that I know of.I'm on my second trip through this book and reckon that if I were to read it several more times i would continue to discover new things wonderful and edifying.
This is certainly serious reading to be done in your quiet time,no distractions, and well worth every minute.
If you would truly like an in depth examination of the great and wonderful God ( and already own a Bible ),buy this book, read it slow and enjoy every word.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: Stephen Charnock has written a book that deserves to be read prayerfully, slowly, and with your Bible open. A very comprehensive analysis of who God is, what His role is in our lives, why we should worship him, and what the Bible says about Him. He discusses atheism, both theoretical and practical, and systematically explores God's omniscience, omnipotence, wisdom, power, and so forth.

Especially in light of the "openness theory" that is infiltrating Christian doctrine today, this book is an important work for Christians to read.

My recommendation is to use it as a Lord's Day study guide, as it beautifully directs your thoughts to adoration, and with the scriptures and the Holy Spirit's influence, can elicit a worshipful and humble response.

Review: The grace of God has produced in this book over 1000 pages of hearty food for the soul.....but whatever the price, it is well worth it...one of the best books the great providence of God has gracefully led me to......

Summary: In My Top 20 Favorite All Time Works
Review: This is one of, if not the best, theology proper texts still in print. Not only does Charnock discuss the attributes/nature of God, he also, in the first two chapters, discusses the existence of God and the inconsistency of atheism. The discourses (or chapters) in the book consists of The Existence of God, Practical Atheism, God's Being a Spirit, the Eternity of God, the Immutability of God, God's Omnipresence, God's Knowledge, and the Wisdom of God. There is a section in the book that is devoted to the life and character of Charnock by WM. Symington, D.D.. Other topics that Charnock discusses include God's goodness, holiness, power, wisdom, dominion, and patience. There are no wasted words in this book. Everything Charnock says is direct, poignant, and extremely important to the topic at hand. This may sound like an exaggeration. If it does then I challenge you to buy the book and read for it yourself and you will see why I place this book in the top twenty list of all the books I have read.
