Summary: disappointment
Review: I was very disappointed with Mr. Bowler's book. The writing is very dry and academic. The author has obviously been writing too long for an academic audience. I have rarely seen so many references packed into each paragraph at the expense of readability. Virtually every page read the same! Instead of letting the various protagonists be heard at length, we get a seemingly endless stream of the their names juxtaposed next to each other with Mr. Bowler's take on their views instead.

The topic could have generated a memorable book. Unfortunately this one is not it.
