Rating: Summary: A Very rare account of the emergence of a Great Spirit. Review: Don't let the cover, or the introduction fool you. This is a great book. I read the first edition ('73 version) in June of '82. It is an absolutely astounding story of a New Yorker (Frank) undergoing various yogic teachings and tests. Frank Jones, after a lifetime of spiritual practice has a primal awakening. This book gave me much encouragement to undergo difficult spiritual processes of unfoldment. The fact that Frank is an American, who is introduced to various Eastern cultures is really cool. Unlike Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi" this book is not filled with myth and ancient dogma. Whether you agree or disagree with the final assertions of this Man's awakening, it is a kick a** book - that really gets to the core of what life, suffering and God Realization is all about.
Rating: Summary: A very unusual and amazing man! Review: I am a Comparitive Religion's Teacher and I am always looking for good material to open my class.I bought the Knee of Listening because I believed that this would be an excellent example of the Guru / Devotee relationship process. However what I, and my class discovered was an amazing story of the an actual and real spiritual awakening and transformation! The Knee Of Listening was the source of many hours of intense discusion and debate within my classes, and I am very indebted to those of the Dawn Horse Press for publishing this wonderful work. Thank You! Sydni01
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life Review: I found the very first edition of this book on a bookstore sale table in 1974. I was captivated by the opening words of the Preface - "Death is utterly acceptable to consciousness and life".
Here is the account of a western-born person who asks all the 'big' questions, but who takes them on at a depth and completeness I never before experienced - not in any source, contemporary or traditional.
But the book does MUCH more than serve up concepts, philosophy and a personal story. I quickly learned that there is a tangible and transforming energy available here, by the simple gesture of giving my attention to this book. In the hours that follow each reading session, I feel filled with light, deeply peaceful and in a remarkable way, blessed.
After several years of private study and growth, I became formally involved in Adidam - the community of Adi Da's devotees. And the Knee of Listening continues to be a fundamental inspiration for me, through all of its editions and expansions.
Rating: Summary: Great Spiritual Autobiography Review: It is difficult in some places for those unfamiliar with the language of Realization, but its Great Power holds up over time, and much of it is simple but unique story-telling. It is now one of the 17 Companions of the True Dawn Horse. Please note: the 3rd review below is completely fabricated and bears no resemblance to the truth.
Rating: Summary: A "Must Read" Review: the most logical way of finding true peace is either to ask someone who you regard to be a Master of Peace, or to investigate a being who claims to be A Master of Peace and Understanding. Follow your own path and Find Him!
Rating: Summary: best book I have ever read, probably will ever read Review: the most logical way of finding true peace is either to ask someone who you regard to be a Master of Peace, or to investigate a being who claims to be A Master of Peace and Understanding. Follow your own path and Find Him!
Rating: Summary: Born in the USA! Review: There are many Eastern Masters but very few American ones. It was very resfreshing to read about God realization from an untranslated book! Because Adi Da (or whatever his name is now) translates the Divine through the filter of an American lifetime I feel this book will become a must-have for all western seekers.

Rating: Summary: A "Must Read" Review: This is truly a remarkable book that should be read by anyone interested in religion or spiritual practice. If you've ever wondered what life is really about, you need to read this book.
