Summary: Visually Stunning - Alas, Just Too Big to Work With
Review: ****
Visually, this is the most stunning deck I have ever seen. I am more of a Tarot Card collector than a Tarot Card reader, so I cannot really say how accurate the readings are with this deck. What I can say is WOW! What art! Everyone I have shown it to was also stunned by how great the artwork is. If the deck were close to a size that an average human can actually shuffle, I would say it is my favorite deck. Maybe someone could prevail upon the producers of this deck to come out with it in a pocket size version, as US Games has done for the Rider-Waite and the Crowley-Thoth decks -- or at least something closer to the standard-sized Tarot deck. This deck is not for the traditionalist or the feminist (or prude) who is upset by nude human anatomy -- in other words, if you don't like adult images or if you are afraid of a modern reinterpretation of Tarot's ancient symbolism, stay away from this deck. On the other hand, if you want a deck with images containing all the power of the Crowley deck but little of the darkness of that deck, this one is for you.

Summary: Nice art, but somehow seems a little off.
Review: I find the 1995 version to be much more appealing then the newer 1999 edition. The layout in the cards in this deck is simply more visually appealing. But either deck is a surreal masterpiece. I particularly enjoyed the image of The Chariot as a Formula 1 racing car! I would recommend the deck to intermediate to advanced readers, or simply those who wish to admire the rich artwork.

Summary: a beautiful deck
Review: This is the most beautiful deck of tarot cards I have ever seen! When I do reading for others, they respond to these cards more so than the more traditional deck (i.e. R-W). Some of the cards have nudity, so not for those who steer away from nudity.

As others have stated here, there is lot to see and interprete on each card.

Summary: good counterpoint tarot
Review: This is without question a beautiful book. The illustrations alone are worth the cover price (if your a fan of the style ... as I am). In addition, his wife Carol, has written the commentary on the cards. She offers a comtemporary commentary on this ancient means of divination and prophecy bringing it cleanly into the present. While the text is updated the references used include symbolism associated with more traditional decks such as the Waite. Rohrig has interpeted the tarot according to both the traditional symbols found in older decks and his own more contemporary mystical insights. I personally enjoy using this deck for the illustrations and the symbols contained therein as I tend to a more Jungian approach to tarot and this deck is particularly appropriate to an archetypal reading. I have also found that the comments on the cards and the interpertations Carol Rohrig offers to be useful and illuminating additions to my usage of the tarot. As an additional or only tarot deck for those of you who would like a more contemporary approach I recommend this deck without reservation.

Summary: Of the Cards rather than the book
Review: When I read the cards, I look for what meaning it can give me for the person I am reading for. This deck is a deck that speaks to me. The artwork and various scenes tell me something about the person that I am reading for - whether they themselves or the situation around them.

The book may offer more interpetations. Those who wish to rely on what the book is telling them to see in the cards is fine and good - for starters. Yet, for someone to really get a good reading, if this deck "speaks" to you, then rely on your own inner voice.

Summary: Tarot For The Empath
Review: Without a doubt, the Rohrig Tarot is my favorite tarot. It is the one that I read with, and it has given me stunningly accurate results.

I would particularly suggest the Rohrig for those who are deeply in touch with their emotions. The art is sensual, sexual, and the cards speak in a language that is deeply intuitive to the empath. Carl's art is simply inspired.

If you are planning to use this deck on a serious or professional level, the companion book is a must have. There are subtle variations between the Rohrig and (for example) the Thoth or the Rider. Carl explains these subtle shifts in detail, and they'll make a lot of difference in your readings.
