Rating: Summary: Great Treatment of Idolatry Review: In this wonderful little book Patrick Miller does an excellent job of examining the Frist Commandmant in relation to politics and idolatry. He shows essentailly how the First Commandmant demands that no other gods be recognized alongside of, instead of or in addition to Yahweh, the God of Israel and Jesus.
Miler also shows the nature of idolatry in the Old Testament as being fundamentally centered on politics and economics. Baal and Mammon are fundamentally economic and political realities that idolatrously tempt Israel away from Yahweh, just as consumerism, globalization and patriotism are a constant seduction for the church in the West.
Miller's work is timely, provactive and well-written. I highly recommend it for those seeking to understand what it means to profess allegiance to God in the context of our idolatrous consumer soceity.
