Summary: Immediate, powerful, the one book on astrology to own
Review: Debbie Kempton Smith's Secret's from a Stargazer's Notebook is an exorcise in clarity cutting through the fuzzy and obscure descriptions found in many astrology reference books. With humor, grace and wit she takes the reader on a journey from the basics of astrology to a deeper understanding of the art. One of the many delights in the book is the way she revels an aspect of astrology through an example (a story) of how it manifested in someone's life. Astrology may have a focus on the stars but Debbie Kempton Smith brings it all down to earth. If you've ever been frustrated with the vagaries of astrology than this is the book to get. If you can get hold of a copy. I've owned two copies that now exist in other people's libraries. The next copy I get stays in my own hands. No mercy to would be borrowers! My advice is to get two copies and keep one of them a secret. I give it 6 stars.

Summary: Not so much.
Review: I devour astrology books, and have a large personal collection which I really enjoy. But this one... not so much.

Having read all the amazon reviews, this book was on my "wish list" for about 5 months. I finally picked it up after reading Kim Rogers Gallagher's light hearted books, becasue I thought the tone would be similar. I was very disappointed, and I returned it. I found this book to be more annoying than funny... I think Kim Rogers Gallagher is allot smarter and funnier.

Summary: Help! I can't stop buying this book !
Review: I felt silly coming back to Amazon to purchase yet another copy of Debbie Kempton Smith's wonderful, witty and oh so accurate Secret's from a Stargazer's Notebook. This will be my fifth or sixth copy! I am a serious student and proponent of astrology and whenever I meet anyone with an interest I "lend" my best book. Of course, I always have my personal copy (ok, my two personal copies) on hand at all times. Needless to say, I never get the lent copies back. I don't begrudge the borrowers and feel priviledged to share with them this outstanding book. A quick look at the other feedback shows that I'm not the only die-hard loyal Stargazer fan! We use it, we love it, we share it and we buy it over and over again!! Thank you Debbie for this contemporary classic astrological work!

Summary: FUN, FUNNY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY INSIGHTFUL!!!
Review: I, like the other folk's reviewing this book herein, have used Debbie's 'Secrets' since 1984... I am so pleased it has been reprinted AT LAST!!!, since mine has completely fallen apart... I cannot tell you how much tape and glue is holding this book together! *lol*

Now, as to the 'meat' of the information contained therein---> anyone will be hard-pressed to find a more delightfully EASY astrological book to read and actually COMPREHEND! Astrology, especially for those who are novice but serious, and those that are content to remain dabblers, can be a daunting study... and like ALL serious study, one just goes deeper and deeper into their subject, no matter WHAT the subject be... Astrology, as we all well know, can be confusing, time-consuming, and downright intimidating... But fear not, for Debbie takes the mathematical, geometrical, and ecliptical mumbo-jumbo and tosses it out the window... In its place is a book PACKED with information on what STUFF MEANS in astrology... and she does it with the best humor on the planet...

Not only that, but Debbie gets REAL with the information... Instead of glossing over and trying to shed a positive light on everything, she tells it like it IS... If you have Mars square Uranus you're an angry, explosive freak, ready to blow up at any moment... And, in my opinion, it's this FRANKNESS that is sorely missing from so many astrology books...

Yes, we all come from LOVE, LIGHT, AND THE GREAT MYSTERY... YES, WE WILL ALL RETURN TO THOSE HEAVENLY STARS ONE DAY... But in the meantime, we live in the HERE and NOW with all manner of quirks, psychological infirmities, and just plain craziness sometimes... I, for one, am most grateful to have a book that tells you just exactly what the DARK SIDE of any given planet, sign, aspect is... But know this as well, it is all explained so humorously that you will find yourself laughing till you cry... THAT's how much we 'SEE' our own selves in her RIGHT-ON expressions... Indeed, Debbie has CAPTURED the BEST and the WORST of human nature in this book... In the WORST, we can effectively gauge where we are in our progress as evolving human beings, and in the BEST, we can see the road ahead, the ideals that will keep us on track, the prize to which we can afix our eyes...

Do I recommend this book??? You betcha... with all my heart, soul, and silly human beingness... This is one book of which it can easily be said---> 'where have you been all my life?' *lol*

Summary: Secrets from a Stargazer's Notebook
Review: In my opinion this is an excellent start for beginners, and a great resource for those with some experience. Debbie's writing is hysterical and she's great at making a wealth of information easily accessable. She skims the surface of many areas of astrology (how to look at a chart, planets, eclipses, symbols, application to daily life, tables, etc.) to provide the reader with a better understanding of how everything works.

I'm beginning to think that I should have purchased TWO copies of this...how much wear and tear can one poor book take?

Summary: Buy this book!
Review: This book got me started in astrology in 1992, and I still have the tattered little reference (which luckily fit in my jacket pocket so when I went to bars, I could screen out the Moon in Aquarius people).

I've been occasionally checking used-book stores for years to get copies for friends; glad it's been reprinted!

Summary: Thank god it's available again!
Review: This book's been impossible to find for years. I wish they'd reprint it normally and have it at a better price with better shipping time, but at least it's available again. I first bought it in 1986 and used it so much, it fell apart--I ended up buying it 4 or 5 times just for myself, and at least as many as a present for friends. It's the single best all-round astrology book out there: no hocus-pocus, just wonderfully in-depth explorations of people that also happen to be really entertainingly written--lots of fun to read. If you want to learn real (i.e., not just sun-sign) astrology, or expand knowlege you already have, this is the book you need.

Summary: THE best book, bar none - you'll bust a gut, too!!!
Review: Wise and funny and true and life-changing. A professional astrologer since 1977, charging $100 for an individual/$200 hourly for corporate... I've used this book and this book ONLY as the text for my beginner's classes since 1983... The only book you need at the entry level, then The Astrologer's Handbook, if you want to get to the beginning professional level... order the Liz Greene computer generated horoscope report from Astrolabe... this is how to wade into astrology to see if you want to go further... and altogether $5000 worth of psychological insight into yourself for $20 + $25 + $45. A bargain that will help you make the most of your best qualities and the best of your worst traits... and enjoy the trip! Once you have studied some, have fun going to astrodatabank.com - which offers a lot of celebrity and famous people's charts - especially people in the news now... and you can look up the chart of anyone you admire - Julia Roberts or Condoleeza Rice or Justin Timberlake or Michael Crichton... for free or a nominal $5 fee...
