Rating: Summary: Waste of Money Review: While very interesting and enveloping, this chilling tale of a "mad arab" is, indeed, just fiction. Any one who believes otherwise is thoroughly deceiving themselves. To find the answer to this controversy you need look no furhter than Lovecraft's letters; he has to explain to several people that he did invent the Necronomicon as background for his stories. Following is a direct qoute of Lovecraft's: To Edwin Baird (February 3, 1924):At one time I formed a juvenile collection of Oriental pottery and objects d'art, announcing myself as a devout Mohammedan and assuming the pseudonym of "Abdul Alhazred" - which you will recognise as the author of that mythical Necronomicon which I drag into various of my tales. In fact, Lovecraft adopted the pseudonym of "Abdul Alhazred" at an early age after reading "Arabian Nights", one of his favorite tales. It is not hard to find other qoutes directly from the horse's mouth that clear the dispute indefinetly. Anyone who says that they have been studying the Necromnomicon for years or who claims to have an original copy or to have seen an original copy, in part or in whole, is sordidly confused. Sorry.
