Summary: Area 51 wackos and some real history, too.
Review: This book takes a sober look at both sides of the Area 51 phenomenon; the wackos with their nutball conspiracy theories, and the more down-to-Earth real history of the military base, including the U2, SR71, and the rumoured Aurora spyplanes. The sections about the Aurora were very interesting. This book also provides ample evidence that Bob Lazar's story is a total hoax, as are most of the outlandish UFO stories circulating around Area 51. Undoubtedly, there are top secret aircraft being tested there, but this book implies that most, if not all, of them are of Earthly design. Reading in this book about the many nuts who congregate around Area 51, and their irrational, childish behavior, I have little faith in any UFO theories they proclaim to be true. Theories are a dime a dozen, but facts are hard to come by. My main complaint with this book is that it focusses entirely too much on the nut cases, their lifestyles and theories; and not enough on the many reliable witnesses who have seen UFO's near Area 51. I already knew there were many crazies associated with Area 51 - I just didn't care to learn this much about them.
