Rating: Summary: Brilliant for it's time; however... Review: Dion Fortune beautifully introduced English-speakers to many aspects of the Initiatic Path. This book, like most of her writings, explores many basic and foundational topics that concern all who are interested in the Self-realization of the Being. However, she was constrained by the needs of humanity at the time she was writing, and those needs have changed. So modern readers will be surprised to find that they may already be familiar with subjects that her contemporaries knew nothing about. Yet, even more than this, the times have changed because we have moved into a new period of human development, one that is grossly miscalculated by the so-called "new age" movement. Humanity now needs practical knowledge. It is time for us to act, not conceptualize. With that need foremost in all his writings, Samael Aun Weor delivered to humanity the precise method to enter into the Path. He was the first to ever reveal the true keys of Initiation in a public manner. Though many claim to have revealed "this" and "that," no others have given the pure and unadulterated teachings of the Solar Path mentioned by Krishna, taught by Jesus, synthesized by Buddha, and lived by Mohammed. For those interested in Practical Magic, one is well advised to read Occult Medicine and Practical Magic by Samael Aun Weor (ISBN 0974591629). For those interested in Initiation and White Tantrism, the sacred science of the Lamas and all ancient mystical traditions, read The Perfect Matrimony, Tantra: the Door to Initiation by Samael Aun Weor.

Rating: Summary: Another brilliant classic, another step to the inner light. Review: Dion Fortune has used her very rich, and illustrative discriptions once more, to help the aspirant in the magical arts. One draw-back though: It never ceases to amaze me, how bigotted she gets, every single time in her repeatative "Left hand path". She tends to assign homosexuals to it. There is a lot of invalueble information and practical technics. This is why the Sorrora Deo Non Fortuna, (as she was reffered to in the Alpha et Omega fraction of the Society of the Golden Dawn)could always be forgiven, however victorian her expressions..."Applied Magic" is a must-have classic book, for anyone interested in practical occultism. For anyone who wishes to serve the devine with high magic, this is one of the best guides available.
Rating: Summary: Good collection of individual articles Review: I have just read this book. Overall it is not up to quality of The Occult Philosophy of Love and Marriage which is also a collection of essays as well as Aspects of Occultism. The value of this compilation is that of certain parts of articles that deal with some details which are by necessity excluded from her major works like The Cosmic Doctrine or Mystical Qabbalah. If this collection is read alongside these books then you will receive some necessary distillation and application of Fortune's occult science.
Rating: Summary: A very good collection of essays on occultism Review: Though somewhat dated in language and some ideas, Dion Fortune has presented some excellent essays on assorted topics related to occultism and magic.
