Rating: Summary: A truly awakening Review: Amazing transportantion through words to the land of Osiris. A poetic revalation of the Book of the Death, far from just a translation but the tale of the Gods, whom are awakened within the ones who believe. The book which gives life was beautifully represented by this enlightening work.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: Awakening Osiris is a good book. Allay the question of the trueness of the translation and envelop yourself in the reading. The invocations and prayers, praises and prose are simple and fluid. The passages are down to earth at times and lofty at others. Enobling, the work is sympathetic to the contemporary soul. I read Awakening Osiris years ago and it still has a place in my heart and a well deserved home on my bookshelf among the more scholarly works of ancient Egypt.

Rating: Summary: I was moved. Review: I didn't get this book for inspiration. I wanted it for research. I'm not into poetry. I don't like fluff. I'm not sentimental. And as a catholic girl, it is certainly not my religion. Consequently, I was surprised to find that this book was less of a research book and more of a spiritual text than I could have imagined. I was shocked to find myself near tears at the painful beauty of the text. This is a very spiritual book. I feel as if I must now also buy a supplemental exact translation for my research, but I cannot deny being moved.
Rating: Summary: AWesome Review: My fave translation of this book. It is Awesome and has relevance today.
Rating: Summary: A fantastic translation! Review: One of the most readable, comprehensive translations I have ever read. Brings the poetry to light in a modern day style. Well done!
Rating: Summary: The Pharaohs are spinning in their tombs! Review: The book is well-written, I'll give it that. While it is certainly more poetic than any other version of the Book of the Dead, it comes at the cost of all of the specifics and crucial information needed for success in the afterlife-- which is why the Book was written in the first place! The true poetry of the Chapters of Comming Forth by Day lies in the information contained within the hieroglyphs. Interpreting the BoD in this manner is like rewriting the New Testament or the Dead Sea Scrolls and inserting one's own personal orinion into the text. A book like this is no less blasphemous.
Rating: Summary: Incredible book! Review: This is one of the most incredible books I've ever read. In this "translation" of the Book of Going Forth By Day (the original Egyptian name for the Book of the Dead) Ellis sings the world into existence and exposes the very depths of my soul like no other writer ever has. It is not a literal translation, but more of a contemporary reflection of what the various chapters mean, a very poetic, smoothly flowing meditation on "Becoming Osiris" and living life like the gods we are. If you've ever been interested in Egyptian thought or mythology, you will love this book! I am Osiris. I walk between the two worlds. I am the maker of myths. I remember all that was and what will be. I am eternal, existing for the millions of years. When you see the sun, remember me, remember your Self.

Rating: Summary: Beyond the Soul Review: When I read this book several years ago, I found myself extremely drawn to the chapter on Becoming the Phoenix... And it has taken me this long to re-find the book, as I had problems finding it in my local library system.
