Summary: Lectio as a dance
Review: Father Carl Arico in person is a delightful, animated, lovable priest. The voice of "A Taste of Silence" will bring the reader into a vivid picture of Arico's teaching style and presence. I particularly appreciated the chapters on lectio divina practice and often use the guidelines that he has given in leading workshops and retreats. When we participate in lectio Father Arico inspires the reader to think of it as "dance." The book is written in a very personal style. Although "A Taste of Silence" has some academic qualities, the reader for the most part will find that Arico is more of a friend offering hospitality and a graceful dance step on the journey of faith. When I finished the book, I closed it with reverence and smiled.

Summary: Wonderful Introduction to Centering Prayer
Review: This book is the best place to begin if you have never read about contemplation or centering prayer. Although Arico quotes from Fr. Keating often and has included Keatings "The Method of Centering Prayer" in the appendix, Carl's writing is easier to understand than Keatings. I have been studying this subject since a dear friend asked me about intercessory prayer over a year ago. I began with Richard Foster's "Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home" which is THE best book on prayer in general. This led me to Keating and the writings of Thomas Merton. I only recently came across "A Taste of Silence" and wish I had found it sooner. Start with Arico and the other books will be far easier to understand. Trust me.
