Rating: Summary: The Ghost Hunter's Guidebook Review: An outstanding account of the history behind ghost hunting as well as explainations of types of hauntings, locales, how-to investigations and more!
Rating: Summary: good..but where was the editor?? Review: I am in the middle of this book, and I am enjoying it so far. The author provides a lot of information and history on parapsychology and Spiritualism. The only problem I have with this book is the editing; tons of errors!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books ever! Review: I am normally not one for reading but this book is so interesting that I could hardly put it down! Very informative and doesn't try to say that his way is the only way and he isn't afraid of saying that his previous versions of this book and opinions have changed! The book has a few editing problems and he tends to refer to the ghost hunter as a he, but other than that a GREAT book!!!
Rating: Summary: So Far the best ghost book i've seen Review: I have to say that i was really impressed by this book. There are many subjects on the matter of ghosts the "what", "why", "where" and the "who". What i really like the most is that the author is very forward on filling what needs to be told which is very interesting.
I really have to say, that this is one of the better books on ghosts that i like the most. However, what i didnt like is how the author disclaims that "graveyards are not "true" research"..which in my view is false cause ALL research is at value. Anyways, besides that he does make a point and i agree on some of what the author says. Worth the time and the money.
Rating: Summary: Good start for the beginning ghost hunter Review: Mr. Taylor gives an excellent starting blue print for hunting ghosts yourself. Not only does he give a run down on the history of spiritualism and early ghost hunters, he also tells the reader where to find ghosts and how to use equipment. Mr. Taylor is one of the more credible authors in this field. He is not a "ghost buster" and does not profess to be an expert in ghost hunting (there are no experts in this field. There are things about ghosts we just do not know.) and this makes him very credible. He presents the evidence he has collected from his experiences and lets the reader judge for him/herself. I would recommend any of his books whole heartedly.
Rating: Summary: One of the best, but full of typos Review: Reasonably good book, but flawed by annoying typos and bad editing. The book looks very much like a self-published one, and suffers from it. Also, the book is long on anecdotes, but short on specific details about its subject matter. For example, for a book called a "Ghost Hunter's Guide," it really never gives beginners a step by step guide to how to hunt ghosts. It is very good on the history of spiritualism, but light on much of what someone really interested in hunting ghosts would be looking for. (For that, I'd recommend Joshua Warren's How To Hunt Ghosts.) However, this book would make a good addition to someone's library on this subject.
Rating: Summary: Reasonably good book but amateurishly produced Review: Reasonably good book, but flawed by annoying typos and bad editing. Rating: Summary: Solidly useful Review: This book is a solid read on the basics of investigating ghosts and hauntings. That is, it covers the necessary material very well, if a bit topically, and I particularly enjoyed the nice primer on spirtualism thank you very much. However, it is plagued with small editorial errors throughout that a decent proof reader could have caught. I found this distracting though I write/edit scientific documents as a profession so I'm biased. Let's see, I think the book could go into more detail in lots of places but really, it is a great "first book" on the subject to peruse--though scouring the internet would also work as other reviewers noted.
Rating: Summary: not bad but room for improvement. Review: This book is required reading for newcomers to my paranormal investigation group because it gives a history of the spiritualist movement as well as basic information on most of the tools used in ghost hunting and paranormal investigation. However, the book does have some editing issues and doesn't have much in the way of procedural information for conducting a credible investigation. To my experience there is not a "total package" book out on the market. I have not read it but I understand the Ghost Hunter's Bible has more procedural information but is littered with a lot of derogatory comments and unfounded opinions on alterative religions and the use of psychics in this line of work. While relying on psychics for proof is folly in any investigation as far as credibility we have found that they are indispensable. This is a great beginner book but don't expect it to give you all the answers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for Ghost Hunting Techniques!! Review: This is a good read. I have read just about all of Troy Taylor's books and this is one of my favorites. It's well-written, organized and very descriptive. I think it should be added to every would-be ghost hunter's library. I would recommend "Confessions of A Ghost Hunter" by Troy Taylor as well. Manda Rea, Author of "Ghost Hunter's Club, Case 1: Elizabeth Sullivan"
