Rating: Summary: Excellent study of the life of David! Review: This was the first Beth Moore Bible study I did and what an introduction! This is tied with "Jesus, the One and Only" as my favorite study of hers, with "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place" being second. "A Heart Like His" goes through the ups and downs of David's life, from childhood through death from old age and examines why the Bible calls him "a man after God's own heart." It was inspiring for me to learn about this man, who lived an imperfect life (think Bathsheba, Uriah, etc.), and was still a friend of God because he loved God in his heart. Most of the stories were familiar, but the author brings a completely different viewpoint and depth to the text which I have never experienced. Beth Moore delves deeply into the original Hebrew texts and gives a much more complete picture of scripture than reading it in English ever could. She has an inspired understanding of the Word of God. Although Beth is Southern Baptist, her studies are truly ecumenical. At my Presbyterian (PCUSA) church, we are about to start our fifth study of hers and I know the Episcopal church in town has done several of her studies, too. I've never met anyone who was disappointed in one of her studies. I HIGHLY recommend you view the video tape series along with the workbook. I would add my husband is currently doing this study and is enjoying it very much. I'm nor exactly sure why Beth Moore primarily limits her ministry to women, but I'm certainly not going to question her calling!
