Rating: Summary: Finally, an On-line Column for KEEPS!!! Review: The only thing to beat Cheryl Bostrom's web-site column is her new book, The View from Goose Ridge. Finally, an on-line column that's for keeps! The View from Goose Ridge is something of a field-guide to life's experiences. In this collection of 54 short devotional tales, Bostrom draws wisdom and meaning out of the chaotic landscape of family relationships, the passing world and random spirituality. The book cuts a clear path so we can see things like "Solutions", "Brain Clutter", "Squall Lines" and "Messes" --all presented with a refreshing sense of humor and vulnerability. This book is filled with wonder, vision and gifts that can only be exchanged between generations. Whether musing about blackberry picking, storm watching, wild orchid hunting with her grandmother or manure spreading, Bostrom sees each event with unusual precision and perception. These are, perhaps, her strongest gifts -- an eye for the intricate detail of the created world (one that exists just beyond our windowsills) -- and an eye for the hand of God in those details. Even though I've lived near, or in, Washington state most of my life, The View from Goose Ridge broke open a sense of wonder about my surroundings that was quite unexpected. The View from Goose Ridge is the kind of book that I will reach for again and again to guide my vision as a mother, daughter, wife, friend and caretaker of God's creation. Bostrom packs all the strength of a Northeasterly wind into her gentlest observations. There's something both life giving and life changing in that combination. A worthwhile read.
