Rating: Summary: Splendid! Review: A necessary book for every Wiccan. I wasn't expecting to learn much because I've read hundreds of books and have been practicing for years. Was I WRONG. This book gave me more encite to sharpened my 'spiritual' tools in the first 30 pages. Her explanations are clear, her techniques simply spoken. (The personal stories only add to the feeling of being taught with consideration and patience) The 'Work' sections are, I feel, necessary to truly living this life. Its a book to take you levels deeper, to teach the things you can't learn without being an apprentice of a skilled teacher.(Like Silver) Or in a coven. I suggest anyone who wants to begin learning the ways of Wicca,(Since we never stop learning) to start with Scott Cunninghams; Wicca, A guide for the Solitary practioner & Living Wicca, A further Guide to the Solitary Practioner and Silver's 'To Ride a Silver Broomstick,To Stir... and To Light...' Silver's books are a foundation I wish I'd had 8 years ago.
Rating: Summary: On It's Own Merits Review: I did enjoy this book. I'm not a fan of RavenWolf, really, and don't care much for her other books, but this one really caught hold of me. I think it's very interesting how many negative reviews on here bash her for writing books on spells, when that wasn't even what this particualar book was about. This is a very spiritually oriented book with various ideas (yes, just ideas, they aren't truly instructions unless you personally take them that way. This goes for everything, including stereo "ideas". Heh.) on how to focus on the spiritual and "conjour" your own connection to the God and Goddess. I think the book reached that goal. The focus wasn't on lighting candles to make stuff happen. It was about slowing down and really understanding what the practice of magic and Wicca truly means to the individual reader. I do admit that there were some things that make my eyebrows shoot up and I don't agree entirely with her view of Wicca and Witchcraft, but for what I was looking for in the book, it met my expectations and made me quite a happy little witch.
Rating: Summary: La la la la la...WITCH!!! Review: I first got this book in 9th grade in high school. I carved occult symbols in it in my arms. I still have the scars! I returned it to get my money back. Now I got it again awhile ago and actually read it. Even though it is intermediate level training I would say it is pretty basic- Mrs. Ravenwolf gives exercises to do. Silver Ravenwolf and Konstantinos are the two current masters of witchcraft, akin to Aleister Crowley in his prime. I think Satanists The Satanic Bible is the only grimoire they can afford. Satanism is the cool thing to ignorant white trash. The others are the middle and upper classes. These Satanists are the white trash you made Emenem popular; thank you for condemning him and his homosexual boyfriend Marilyn Manson.
Rating: Summary: Her Best Book Review: I have owned 3 books by Silver RavenWolf and also read Teen Witch. No matter how many other books on the Craft and magick I buy, I still end up going back to this one every time I plan a spell or ritual. The chapter on casting circles is invaluable, with plenty of examples of different visualizations and good instructions on how to write a circle casting. I use the chapter Conjuring Minor and Major Magicks a lot, especially the planetary hours. I have found using the right planetary hour definitely adds "punch" to a working, especially when you need to work quickly and can't wait for the right day of the week or the right moon phase. I like Silver's anecdotes, they show that she is a practicing witch and I don't feel like she's just pulling things out of thin air. One thing I especially liked was her discussing "correct" behavior at an open circle. I know as a solitary I was intimidated the first time I went to such an event. I did not feel like I was being talked down to, I felt like earned wisdom was being imparted.
I also owned American Folk Magick and To Ride a Silver Broomstick. I gave To Ride to a friend's daughter at her first blood ritual, because it is a good book for beginners, and American Folk Magick to a Christian friend, because the system didn't suit me.
There are things I disagree with the author on, however trying to get Pagans to agree on everything is like trying to herd cats. If you are interested in making Wicca an everyday part of your life, rather than just something to make a big deal out of on Samhain and Beltane, this is a good book. It shouldn't be the first book you buy about Wicca, but it's good to read a year or so into your studies. But especially as a solitary, no one author should direct your studies entirely. Especially not Silver, because if you read all her books you will get confused. This is definitely the high point for her, but I haven't read To Light a Sacred Flame yet.
Rating: Summary: Another Favorite! Review: I loved the book!! I find it strange that all these people who keep bashing Silver keep reading all her books just so they can tell us how bad they are. If you all hate her books so bad, then go read what YOU want to read, mind your own business and stop worrying about everyone else. Your way, your beliefs are not the same as anothers, and your ways and beliefs are no more right or wrong than anyone elses. It's not nice to hate on anyone even if you disagree with them. I loved the book, alot of my friends have as well. It's fun and interesting and easy to read, not like someone droning on and on in a boring way that makes you want to close the pages and go to sleep.
Rating: Summary: If you must buy a Ravenwolf book, buy this one Review: I really can't recommend this book. I'm not sure what it tries to be about... Wiccan? Nope, it's too far from any books on Wicca to be that. Traditional Witchcraft? No, it's unlike any of those works, too! Ravenwolf skirts the line between fiction and fact. I think the public deserves a new edition of this book with footnotes and qualifiers where she explains where she comes up with stuff...For beginning Non-Wiccan Witches, this book is too Wiccan to be of any use. For Wiccans, this book is too far from Wicca to be of any use. It will leave you confused, and WORSE, if you are familiar with the craft... I can only imagine what it would do to a true beginner.
Rating: Summary: Another good one by SIlver Review: I truly recommend this book for all beginning "alternative religion" questors. Although some don't like Silver or her beliefs, I think that her books are some of the best written for the beginners. I have recommended this set of books over some more "traditional" books, such as Ray Buckland's Big Blue. I think that Silver does a wonderful job explaining things in a manner that make them very easy to understand, yet does not make the reader feel like a complete idiot. I will continue to recommend her books to all who ask. Brightest Blessings
Rating: Summary: A beginner's book on magick Review: I would recommend this book to any beginner in magick and also the next book, To Ride a Silver Broomstick. The pair of them make a great way to start practising. They are exellent! But don't by any other books by the author. ...

Living Wicca A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner (Scott Cunningham) 3. To Ride A Silver Broomstick (Silver RavenWolf) 4. To Stir A Magick Cauldron (Silver RavenWolf) 5. It does not matter what name she used to write her books SHE is GREAT!
Rating: Summary: How to Mess Up Magick, Volume II Review: Remember the friend who lent me Ravenwolf's first book? Apparently, she decided I should read this book as well so as to 'allign me with the correct path.' Once again, I decided to be patient and give Ravenwolf another chance. The stupidity continues. After a horrible first book, Ravenwolf (or 'Mama Silver' as she is known to some) returns. Know foremost that you will learn absolutely NO conjuring with this book. If you actually manage to cast strong spells with this book, you should receive an award. The book is another fluff book filled with nothing but blah. Anyone who takes magick seriously should trully avoid this book. Once again, I'll summarise it like this: if you want a book that will insult your intelligence, teach you one or two 'spells', and nothing more, this is the book for you. If, however, you want a book that will teach you the mystical path and inner mysteries of magick, look elsewhere. For those who desire the latter, I suggest books by Franz Bardon or Donald Michael Kraig.
