Summary: An insight into the true nature of reality
Review: Have you even gazed up at the stars on a clear summer evening and wondered about the universe that lies above? Do you remember those moments of introspection when you pondered the meaning of your existence, or when you wondered so fervently where that deceased loved one or pet might be now? Seth, a "personality" channeled by medium Jane Roberts, reveals these questions and more in his first of many books in the Seth Series.

Seth first came through Jane in the early '60s and continued to relay information right up to her death in the early `80s. In this book, "Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul," Seth addresses the true nature of our physical/spiritual existence, much of which is blind to us in our conscious physical state.

While Jane Roberts is the credited author, ironically, she is really the ghostwriter (no pun intended). The real writer is Seth, who has lived this physical reality more than once. His intent is to impart upon us a view of "reality." Not "reality" as we know it; reality as it really is. Seth says our current perception of reality is "an illusion." We live within a sea of molecules, which we use to create the physical existence we experience. Our real existence emanates from our soul, where our inner self exists as the primary component to a physical identity we think of as our true being.

The narration draws upon topics as wide reaching as metaphysics and spiritual consciousness, dream states and analysis, psychology, religion, and the experience of physical death.

Whether or not you agree with Seth, this book will widen your thinking, expand your view of the world and your placement in it. Many of Seth's concepts, which he relayed in 1970 through 1971, mirror concepts discussed in quantum physics and reality. The message he sends is not designed to establish a dogma but to remind us of a reality our soul already knows and we spend a lifetime trying to remember. True inner growth comes with spiritual awareness. Consciousness precedes form; everything we experience is created within, then projects outward. Being reminded of the many aspects of our true being awakens the inner self, bringing us continually closer to All that Is.

Many of these concepts are "heady" and may not be understood in this review. After reading Seth Speaks, their true meaning will make sense.

Clearly communicated and brilliantly conceived, this book is a decongestant to the pathways of the soul. It will open those channels to your inner being and, if nothing else, will cause you to view those stars that shine so brightly on a clear summer night far differently than you did in the past.

Summary: Not a Self-Help book, but it will change your life...
Review: How can that be?

Seth talks about "camouflage" reality--basically, our senses are nearly completely focused on our physical surroundings. Conversely, we think consciousness and mental energy are diaphenous concepts, while dreams are figments of the imagination. To further alienate ourselves, we place a great emphasis on linear clock time, which is basically a man-made invention, and has little or no value in the greater scheme of reality.

As you read the book, and come to understand new concepts like simultaneous time and the multidimensionality of consciousness, the standard "rug" of your traditional thinking wil be pulled out from under you.

So where does that leave you? Floating in space, but somehow, with your feet firmer on the ground...your mind has expanded, and wandered into unchartered territory, but at the same time, the world appears clearer than before ...you can see further, deeper into the consequences of your own actions, and feel impelled to take control of them; you feel a greater affinity, an interconnectedness between yourself and nature, and revel in it. So guess what? You find your life has changed....

Summary: Life Changing Proportions.....
Review: I am always looking for inspiring works that express straightforward wisdom in a non-authoritarian style. This book meets these criteria, and I am sure that some (even many) people would get a lot out of it. My disappointment is mainly focused on the style (distracting & repetitive "banter", a choppy style), and a "dated" feeling. To those with a grounding in so-called "new age" cosmology and ideology, everything here has been said elsewhere, and more coherently/cohesively. The author/medium has written 25 books, and the overwhelming feeling that I had was that this book had a bit more emphasis on quantity than quality. The text is a word-by-word transcription of Seth's sessions, plus commentary on how the channel got up for a smoke, what time the sub-sessions began and ended, greetings and banalities before and after every session between Seth and the channel's husband, and the never-ending "Jane's trance had been very deep and the words flowed freely". In other words, lots of repetitive stuff and many paragraphs could have been excised without any loss of meaning.

By comparison, the five "Bartholomew" books are cogent and dynamic, the effect of choosing certain selections of certain "sharings" that are designed to give the effect of being present. Every word tells.

I will finish the last few pages of this Seth book, and I have Seth's "The Nature of Pesonal Reality" in the wings. But it is unlikely that any of the other 23 books by Ms. Roberts will find a place on my bookshelf.

Summary: It's ready if you are...
Review: I first read Seth Speaks in 1978, picked it out of a bin at a flea market on a whim. Little did I know then that I would go on to re-read this book dozens of times over the years, or that it--among other Seth titles--would transform how I viewed "reality" and my place in it. So, of course I would recommend it to others who are interested in expanding their knowledge and insight. However, a caveat: Seth Speaks doesn't mix well with dogma. The material is challenging and demands a willingness to go against the grain of conventional thinking in many areas. It's definitely not a book that provides quick and easy answers to life's problems; but it's full of concepts that will probably make you think long and hard.

Among Seth's contentions is that knowledge actively seeks out those who desire it. In the case of Seth Speaks, I'm sure glad it found me.

Summary: Forever Changed
Review: I read Seth Speaks back in 1976. It spoke to my soul. All that I had wondered, believed, felt, and knew to be my reality was confirmed by Seth's words.
I had always seen the world from my mind's eye. Reading Seth Speaks helped me to live my life without fear of living or of dying. I read Seth Speaks back in 1976... I was 10 years old! I have been forever changed!

Summary: A great place to meet yourself
Review: Seth Speaks contains a beautiful and empowering message. Although I'm sure many people will be turned off by the idea that these ideas were supposedly "channeled" through Jane Roberts. If Jane Roberts were able to dictate the material in this fashion (a continuous word for word dictation), then it is a testament to the power of the human mind. At the very least it proves that there is an unfathomable intelligence dormant in all of us.

If you read this with an open mind however, it's obvious that there is a power greater than Jane at work. Some of the material discussed includes what happens when you die, the meaning of dreams, the potentials of the soul, God, and how we constantly create our reality by means of our thoughts. Seth Speaks reads like a how-to book for the universe. At times the language is a bit thick, but so are the concepts Seth is explaining. A must read for anyone who is not satisfied with the explanations given by society and religion on the purpose of our existence. As Seth puts it:

" I would like therefore to introduce you to yourself. You will not find yourself by running from teacher to teacher, from book to book. You will not meet yourself through following any particular specialized method of meditation. Only by looking quietly within the Self."

Summary: Simply Outstanding
Review: The title of this book should be renamed to "The Bible of Metaphysics". It is, without a doubt, that good. Out of all the channeled books I've read, this one (and all by Seth) far exceed them all...and it was written back in the 70's! But don't let that date fool you, it is just as relevant and useful now as it was back then.....if you read the book, you'll know that back then is happening right at this moment anyway. Seth is so right on with every topic he covers, while you're reading it, there will be no doubt that Seth is the "real deal". I understand when some people say they don't like channeled books, some end up preaching wierd mantras that don't mean much of anything. But Seth, and this material, is so profound that you couldn't walk away without a sense of feeling changed from the inside out.

Seth delivers his material with such rich detail and practically provides a manual on the nature of reality, physical death and reincarnation. It is quite interesting to hear his perspective on the idea of time and that we are experiencing everything at the same time. It takes out the misconception that we are living a linear timeline with "past lives", but rather living all of our lives at once. It is very refreshing to hear what happens after our physical death from Seth who claims to "have died more physical deaths then I care to recall" and says "but if I would have known what I know now, I would have seen every death as an adventure.". It is high honor to read Seth's writtings and I hope that I will met him one day.

Summary: Life Changing!
Review: This book has traveled the world with me. And yet, each time I re-read it, it is as wonderful and insightfull as the first time. I'm going to keep this short, because if I wrote about what this book has meant to me it would take days to write. Some of the content is mind blowing, and takes a few times to read before the magnitude of it sets in. I can't say enough how great this book is. But it isn't really just a book. IN fact, I just can't explain it. You'll have to read it for yourself.

Summary: Hokey and uninspiring
Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend whose opinion I hold in high regard. She said that this book profoundly changed her life when she read it many years ago. However, it was only when I was more than half-way through the book that she decided to point out that there were only one or two ideas in the book that were worth exploring, and they came at the end. The general concepts in this book are fascinating, but the approach that the author takes is hokey and confusing at best. Even if you buy the premise that the author is channeling the voice of a spiritual entity who was once a 4th-century Pope, among other incarnations, the book is still going to be a disappointment. Much of the philosophy presented is just plain rubbish. And a lot of it is rehashed rubbish. The author provides no new convincing arguments that our souls live on beyond the demise of our bodies. There is one really interesting notion in this book, that every single thought that we have, whether we act upon it or not, is played out in an infinite number of alternate universes. It's fascinating to ponder, but impossible to gain any practical benefit from it. This book is basically a cult classic, very popular among people who already believe in reincarnation and the like. But for the rest of us skeptics, it is not worth reading.

Summary: Seth Speaks is a MUST for any metaphysical studies
Review: When reading Seth Speaks, ignore anything writen in italics - it slows down the flow of ideas. I have read Seth Speaks about 15 times and each time there is more to consider. The Seth material, not what Jane Roberts offered, is one of the three best sources of material to the veryserious metaphysical student. Edgar Cayce was great at introducing concepts and offering a definition for most topics. Cayce's information was definitately rooted in a traditional religiousbelief system but it is still the best place to start one's study. The Seth works, Seth Speaks being the cental book, builds upon concepts found within the Cayce files and introduces the idea of "You create your own reality." The final book that I believe one must read is A Course In Miracles. This is the CAP STONE. It also states"You create your own reality" but adds that Godis NOT involved in this "illusion" since anything of God must be eternal and nothing we see, taste, touch, smell or hear is eternal. Topics like Grace, Reincarnation, Karma, Psychic Powers are all discussed in these three Major sources.
